Chapter 18: {[I]} (((Remember)))
Gossip Girl: Hey boys and girls, it's Gossip Girl and it's summer, officially, and things are sure heating up. Who would have thought that two people would have the Upper East Side buzzing? I did. But that's not the real question, the question is...what will they do next?
Until next time, XOXO, Gossip.
Kendall and I had managed to get out of the Penthouses and made our way to the gym. The gym we went to wasn't the high end one, after the party, we decided that we'd try to stir clear of those kids for at least a day. They were fun, but we just needed to be unknown for a while. Kendall immediately disappeared and I was left by myself. I stood alone at first, then I moved to a weight bench and started trying to pick up a really big weight, but I had bitten off too much. Before I could catch it, it was falling and I saw my life flash before me before someone caught the weight.
"Are you okay?" a voice asked.
I sat up slowly and recognized the face, Steven Parker, " Yeah, I'm good." I said, trying to catch my breath.
He extended his hand, " Hello, I'm..."
"Steven Park II." I said slowly, " I know."
"You're not going to introduce yourself?" he asked, curiously.
"You already know who I am, so why bother." I said, standing and walking away.
"Because it's the civil thing to do." he said, walking beside me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, " There's not supposed to be any..."
"Rich kids?" he smirked.
"Don't." I growled.
"Don't what?" he asked.
I stopped and turned towards him, " That's not what I meant." I said angirly.
"That's exactly what you meant." he said cooly.
"I've just met you and you're annoying me." I said, still angry.
"Why? I just saved your life." Steven said.
"You saved me medical expenses, not my life." I said, turning around, but I bumped into someone I never expected to run into, Davis, " Hi."
"Is this a friend of yours?" Steven asked.
"More like boyfriend." Davis said angrily.
"Ummm, I'm going to be going now." Steven said, leaving.
"Good idea." I said angrily, " Mind taking me with you?"
He stopped.
"That was a joke." I said.
He chuckled and left.
"H..."
"Don't." Davis said coldly
"So, you came here to tell me not to say anything to you?" I asked.
Davis chuckled, " Believe it or not, I didn't come here for you." he said, " There is a basketball camp here. The college is sponsoring it."
"So, you just happened to be here?" I asked. Then I saw his eye, " What happened to your eye?"
"Marco." Davis said simply.
"Why did Marco do that?" I asked.
"Because I kicked his ass." Davis said angrily, " Yeah, I guess that was the night you left. You couldn't even come to graduation?"
"Why does it matter to you?" I asked.
"I cannot believe you just left without telling me. You didn't tell anybody." Davis grumbled.
"Well, I can't believe you attacked Marco! So we're both shocked. I knew that you were mad, but why take it out on him?" I asked.
"Well, you weren't around!" Davis shouted, causing people to look at us.
"What do you want me to say?! That I'm sorry? Cause for the last...I don't know how many months, I've been the designated punching bag, so I needed to get away. Somewhere where I'm not a target. That's here." I said sadly.
"So, screw everyone else?" Davis said quickly.
"What?" I asked.
"Not did you do anyone else, but you don't care that the people around you needed you?" Davis asked.
"Who? Who needs me?! Hannah has Zack, Marco has Julie, Ballard has you idiots, and you have..." I stopped and looked at him, " You miss me?" I asked.
"Doesn't matter, right?" he said. Before I could say anything, an older man walked up to us and announced that it was time for Davis on the court Davis nodded and followed the man.
"Was that Davis?" Kendall asked, running up behind me.
"Don't I look like I'm about to explode?" I asked.
"Huh?" she asked.
"You remember when I said that I had been dating someone and we broke up before I left?" i asked
She looked puzzled for a minute, " You're kidding!" she squealed, " You and him got squishy?"
"No. Not that squishy. Kissing...touching...never fuc..."
"Stop it!" Kendall chuckled, " So, why's he here?"
"Basketball thing." I said, " And to make me feel just bad enought to pick up the razor, but not use it."
"You gonna be okay?" Kendall asked.
"Yeah." I said slowly, " I'm just second guessing this whole, running away thing."
"This is you running away?" Kendall asked, " You're running away?"
"No." I stammered, " Sort of. I'm a punching bag...lately, I am. And I don't like it. I figure New York is just the place to harden my shell. Plus, my grandma really wants to hook me up, so I figure, no job, free place to sleep...fun. I mean, it could be worse."
"You're tougher than you give yourself credit for." Kendall smiled.
"And you're not as free as you pretend to be." I said.
"Huh?" Kendall asked.
"I saw how you helped Ballard...you're probably the only reason he's attempting to walk." I said quickly.
Kendall smiled, " No. I think that's you." she said.
"Whaddya mean?" I asked.
"He was throwing stuff and shouting and...then you came in and he stopped. How'd you do it?" Kendall asked.
"I stayed." I smiled, " We're connected."
"Connected?" Kendall smiled, " I saw the connection. And, I liked it. I think you're right for my brother."
"Our relationship isn't...it isn't like that. I love him, but we're not in love." I said carefully.
"You're not in love." Kendall said.
I began to wonder, then I stopped, " I think my mind's on Davis. Ballard makes me smile." I said.
"Well, we should go, they're having a summer ball or something tonight. And our grandparents are announcing us." Kendall said, " Besides, you know Grams hates the idea of us being here."
"True." I smirked as we left, her arm draped over my shoulder.
Gossip Girl: Spotted. A and K leaving a seedy gym, but only after a showdown between A, loverboy, and an unidentifed athlete. Let's call him hunkyjock Purebred, hometowny goodness at our best. Sources say that it was intense between the golden boy and the hunkyjock. A lover's quarrel perhaps? And what's going on with loverboy? Only time'll tell, huh?
XOXO, Gossip Girl.
Grandma grabbed the fork and sighed. I could tell that she was getting annoyed. She had been trying to teach me the things I needed to know for tonight. it was pretty funny, but things got interesting when she decided to brief me on my mission.
"So, are you ready to meet the boy you're going to spend the rest of your life with?" Grandma said giddily. I had never seen her like this. She was excited for me.
"The rest of my life? Are you still trying?" I laughed.
"Yes, but this is the one I know you're going to like." Grandma said, " He's a very nice boy, I believe you met him."
I looked at her quickly.
"Mr. Archibald Stephen III. His mother and father are our very close friends." Grandma said, " He's a very nice boy. You wouldn't tell he's..."
"I know you have....'issues' with it. It's okay." I said softly, " And I'll do it."
"I do, but I love you and I'll always accept you." Grandma said, " Be ready." she said, getting up and leave.
At dinner, the place sets and the all-around Dining Room was very elegant. It was crazy when all the people started coming and finally the whole table was filled! I was relieved when Kendall sat beside me. I felt like I wasn't going to totally ruin everything.
"So, did you get the crash course in 'what not to do'?" I asked.
"Yeah, but I've been getting that for a while now." she smiled.
"Yeah, my grandma's trying to hook me up with Archibald Stephen." I chuckled.
"The Third, I hope." she chuckled, " Uh oh, there he comes."
I looked as quickly as I could and tried to make myself not seem obvious. he was cute and I found myself almost staring. He smiled as he sat beside me and Kendall tapped me, " I know, I'm staring." I whispered.
"Yeah, and I think there's drool." Kendall smirked, " So, has he been confirmed as gay?"
"Only to his parents. Grandma explained just before they got here, he told his parents and he was going to tell everyone, but they convinced him not to." I whispered.
"So, what are they going to say when you guys get married?" Kendall asked.
"Marriage?" I asked loudly, causing everyone to stare at me oddly, " Is...umm, wonderful, blessed thing. Yeah, umm, grandma, everybody, I think I need to get some air." I said, leaving the table. I walked to the terrace and as I stared out onto the beautiful city, I wondered how I was going to do this. How was I going to run away from this? Everything I had built, washed away. My security gone...so what do I do here? I run? I didn't...I just needed to gather my thoughts. Maybe this was a mistake. I should have resolved everything first, but I didn't now I'm here.
"Are you okay?" Archibald said behind me.
"Hi." I said, turning to him, " Yeah, I'm just enjoying the view."
"I know what you mean." he smiled, " I don't think we've officially met. I'm Archibald Stephen."
"I'm Adaen Lawerence." I smiled, not able to take my eyes off him.
"I know." he smirked, " My friends call me Archie."
"Archibald." I said.
"Haha, I meant for you to call me Archie." he chuckled.
"I know. I just didn't want to take it the wrong way." I said slowly.
"I mean, we're gonna be married someday, if our grandparents and parents have their way." he smiled.
"You got that too?" I asked, " It just makes me a little weird around you."
"Me too. But it's not so bad now that I see you." he said.
I blushed, " You're fun. I think I'm gonna like it here." I smiled.
"Come on." he said, putting an arm over my shoulder, " If we don't get back, they'll send search parties. Or wedding planners." he said as we walked back inside. I smirked as we walked back and he smiled too. I felt better about being there, but later, I was going to see Davis. He deserved that much.
