Author's note: Sorry I didn't post last week but I had midterms and took a little treat for myself by going to a concert. I went to a concert held by a local radio station and it featured 98 degrees, Britney Spears, Lou Bega, LFO, Christina Aguilera, Blaque, Vitamin C. It was fun and a well deserve break for me. Anyways, the installment after this one I haven't started yet because I'm experiencing kind of a writer's block. I've made the base for the series and now here's the kicker....I have to start the relationship. I haven't decided how to do it yet so if you guys have any suggestions drop me a line. As for this week, I'm going to drive a couple hours to Madison to see the BSB in concert....maybe that will give me ideas on what to do with Nick.
Thanks to Tonny and Alec for the feedback. I know this story is moving slowly but now, its time to take it up a knotch for the next installment. I just wanted to have a basis for the whole relationship so now that I do...we need to get some nookie on the board. Hey, every relationship needs some justification...no pun intended...lol
Chapter 7: Don't Wanna Lose Written by: "Bear"
After that night in Chicago, Nick's disposition got so much better. After that incredible night with Justin they just started to click. It was eerie how well they played off with each other. During that night they got to talking about their lives and their experiences and found themselves enjoying each other's company. They found similar interests in many topics but found things that they also agreed to disagree on. It was funny, now they had a confidant in each other. After that night they found themselves spending more and more time together.
While in Chicago, they got to go to Disney Quest where they just played some video games. Nick was of course hooked from the start but also found some good competition in Justin. Nick didn't like the thought that he actually got beat in a few games so instead he told Justin that he just got lucky or his controllers weren't working properly. Justin of course had to bother him about it the whole day they were there. After Chicago, they got to Minnesota where the two set-up time for them to shop. They went to Mall of America without telling the other guys. They knew that if they did everybody else would come along and they just wanted to be incognito for the day. The two got way too much shopping done as Justin and Nick both bought pairs of sneakers. They even got ones of the same pair. Justin tried to argue that he saw it first so he should have the right to buy the shoes but Nick wouldn't budge. They also stopped by Abercrombie and bought some shirts and pants. Then, when Nick saw this jewelry store he saw this chain that he couldn't let out of his grasp so he bought it. Justin meanwhile saw this North Carolina jersey so he had to buy it too. At the end of the day, the rented Durango was filled with shopping bags.
When they got to the hotel, Nick and Justin tried to sneak their shopping bags back to their rooms. When they got out of the elevator though they saw Howie about to step into his room. He saw the two teenagers try to hide their bags but it was hopeless because of the sheer number of them. "I knew you two were up to something when you guys left quickly this morning."
"It wasn't my idea Howie. It was Justin's." Nick said pointing to his partner in crime.
"Hey!" Justin said punching Nick's arm.
"Sure Nick, like I would really believe you on that one. So why the big secret, huh?"
"We don't know." Nick said as he looked over at Justin who was looking at him also.
"I guess we just wanted to do something ourselves and not have you guys tagging around," answered Justin.
"Hey, I'm hurt by that comment," Howie reacted.
"Sorry D. I guess it was a teenager outing. So that means no adults allowed," Nick replied.
"Okay, okay but you guys owe me cause if the others found out about this they would have your asses," Howie laughed.
"Sure D. Thanks."
"No problem Nick. Now go before someone else catches you." Howie then entered his room and Nick and Justin headed for Nick's.
As soon as they got in, they both dropped their bags and Nick plopped on the bed. Justin then sat by him and look at the damage they've done. "I didn't know we bought that much."
Nick sat up from the bed and looked at the pile of bags in front of them. "I know. When you're buying them it doesn't seem like it's enough. Now, it's just this big pile of debt that I'm gonna have to pay at the end of the month." Nick tried to joke.
"Yeah, this coming from a rich `Backstreet Boy,'" Justin said sarcastically.
"Hey you make as much as money as I do....that was low, man."
"Really, how low. This low?" Justin asked as he then tried to tickle Nick on his sides. Nick then retaliated and they were soon in a full blown tickle war as they rolled all over the bed trying to get away from each other while torturing the other one. They then fell off the bed and onto the pile of shopping bags. The two then heard a loud shout from the hall. Nick and Justin stopped immediately as they heard the outcry.
They got off each other and laughed at themselves and the mess they made. They walked out of the room and heard, "Fuck! Fuck! All my stuff is gone." They headed down the hall and saw Chris and Joey outside the door. Chris was angry and agitated while Joey tried to calm him down. "Joey man everything is gone. My clothes, shoes, and even my freaking toothbrush."
"Chris calm down. Calm down. We'll find it okay."
With all the commotion, J.C., Kevin, Howie, and A.J. soon appeared. "What's wrong Chris?"
"Some shit stole all my stuff, that's what's wrong."
"Huh?" asked A.J.
"Come on take a look," Joey said.
They all walked into Chris' room and saw the room in perfect order. The beds made, the countertops clean, everything was in order. "Chris, either this burglar is a clean freak or you're mistaken about this whole thing," Howie butted in.
Kevin took a look around and had to agree on his point. "Are you sure about this Chris? It doesn't look like a burglar went through this room. It looks like more of a maid."
"Of course I'm sure. I'm not a freakin' lunatic who can't remember dog for shit."
"Okay, okay. Calm down. Guys, what should we do?" Joey asked.
Kevin took a moment before addressing the guys, "Okay, let's call the front desk and ask who's been up here? If they don't know what's happened then we can call the police." The guys nodded while Chris was starting to calm down. "Howie, how about you call the desk and ask them and I'll talk to our bodyguards if they've seen anything."
"Sure, Kev."
"No, Howie. I'll do it," Nick interrupted him.
"No. It's fine Nick I can handle it," Howie said as he headed for the phone.
Justin instantly stepped in front of Howie and said, "You know what, Howie? I'll do it. You stay here and I'll talk to the front desk. Okay?"
"No, it's fine Justin I can do it."
"God damn it. Will you guys stop arguing and just someone freakin' call the desk," Chris shouted.
"I'll do it," Justin answered as he headed for the door.
Joey stopped him. "Where you going Justin?"
"To call the front desk."
"There's a phone here. It's over there by the nightstand."
Justin gave a glance over to Nick. "Um, yeah. My bad." Justin slowly walked over to the phone and picked up the handle. He dialed a few numbers before he put the phone down again. "Um...guys, it's not working. I'll just go to my room and use mine."
"What, are you sure?" asked Kevin.
"Yeah, doesn't even have a dial tone."
Kevin then started to walk over to Justin to try the phone. But, Nick got there first and pick it up and tried it himself. "Yup, no dial tone guys."
Kevin looked at them suspiciously. "Okay you two spit it out?"
Justin looked at Nick and Nick looked at Justin. Ironically, they both said at the same time, "Spit what out?"
J.C., Howie, A.J., Joey, and Chris then looked upon the two youths. J.C. asked, "What are you talking about Kevin?"
"I think these two know more than they're telling us."
"Huh?"
"Now you two spit it out."
Nick tried to look away from the gaze of everyone in the room while Justin stood there entranced. Justin instantly caved. "It was his idea," he said as he pointed to Nick.
"Huh," Nick look upon Justin shocked.
"Nick thought it would be funny to play a prank on Chris. He did it."
"Hey," Nick said as he punched Justin's arm. "You thought it would be funny too. Plus it takes two people to carry all his things out of here."
"Uh...um."
"See, he's as much in fault as I am."
"But."
"I don't care who did it. Where the hell is my stuff?" Chris said aggrevated.
"I don't know about that one. Nick has it," Justin quickly answered.
Nick once again looked away from the guys. "See that's the thing. It's kind of not here."
"What do you mean its not here?" Joey asked.
"It's on its way to Phoenix."
"What? How did that happen?" Howie asked.
"I kind of got it sent there," Nick then looked up at all the faces staring at him. "I thought it would be funny that when we got there all his stuff would be there."
"God!" Chris said as he just plopped down on one of the chairs.
"Sorry guys," Nick said before budging Justin.
"What?" Justin asked. Nick then looked at him and then the guys. "I have nothing to be sorry about. This is your thing." Nick then stared at him intensely and Justin looked at the floor. "Sorry."
"Okay, okay," Kevin controlled the situation. "You two. Get out of here and try to get Chris' things back and next time think before you guys do anything."
"We will." Nick and Justin said like five-year olds. They then headed out of the room and into the hall. "I told you we'd get in trouble."
"Well, we got in trouble because you opened your big mouth."
"It wasn't my idea to send the his things to another state."
"Well, you didn't object to it."
"Great! Now, how the hell are we going to get his stuff back."
Nick and Justin continued to argue as they headed down the hall. The guys overheard most of their conversation and they looked at the distraught Chris. "Don't worry Chris. The worst possible consequence is that your stuff will be in Phoenix when we get there." Kevin said as he tried to console Chris.
"Yeah, but it's just the whole principle of the thing."
Howie then laughed and everyone looked at him. "What are you laughing at?"
"I just had a picture in my head. It would have been kind of funny that when we got there all of your stuff would be there waiting for you."
"Ha, ha very funny."
"Hey, it was a stupid prank but I think it's funny. Plus look at this room. It's perfectly clean. Nick can't even do that to his won room."
A.J. took a look around and giggled. "I guess your right. It's kind of funny."
"Funny cause it didn't happen to you." Chris shouted.
"Yeah, I guess that would be it. Those two can probably think of a lot of stuff together."
"I don't think I like the two of them as friends," A.J. added, "our lives could become difficult." A.J. continued as he thought of all the pranks that have been played on him by Nick.
"Yeah but it sure is gonna get interesting," Howie answered back.
J.C. who had been strangely quiet during the whole ordeal thought of his long time friend, Justin. `Is he going to be okay with Nick as his friend?'
Chapter 8: Don't Wanna Lose Written by: "Bear"
"Ahhhhh.."
Howie quickly sat up from his chair in the dressing room and headed for the door. Before he got there though, A.J. walked into the dressing room. "Bone what was that?"
A.J. laughed a bit before answering, "Joey just found his bag."
"Oh, I guess the princes of darkness strikes again huh?"
"Yup, they did and I wasn't about to get in the way."
"You mean you knew about this?"
A.J. walked over to the couch and sat as Howie followed. "Yeah, I kind of guessed it."
"How?"
"Let's see. All of us has gotten tricked on by those two one time or another in the last four weeks. It just seemed like it was again Joey's turn on the list."
Howie thought for a second. "A.J. you know not all of us have been pranked on."
"What do you mean?"
"Brian."
"Ah, Brian." A.J. stopped for a second. "Where is he anyway?"
"He's with Linda at the airport. She's going back home for a couple of weeks."
"Yeah, that is interesting," A.J. contemplated ignoring Howie's reply. "I guess old Nicky still isn't over our little Brian, huh?"
"How do you figure?"
"Come on D. Over the last month we've gotten picked on, laughed at, and played by Nick and Justin. The only one they haven't targeted is Brian. Don't you notice that Nick hardly speaks or looks Brian's way. He spends all his time with Justin and tries to think how to make our lives miserable."
"Miserable but interesting."
"Sure D. whatever you say."
"I think some of them were pretty funny." Howie tried to recall. "The shower disaster on Kevin was a laugh...then how about the prank calls on J.C. that one night and then the following night the constant delivery of chinese food every hour on the hour.."
"Yeah, that one was a kick."
"Then the prank they pulled on Joey on Halloween."
"Yeah he was scared shitless after that."
"Then."
"No, then there was the whole toilet incident."
"Yes, that was..wait that wasn't funny. That was me you dork."
"See, isn't as funny when it happens to you does it?"
"Bone, don't be a smartass." Howie got up. "Come on. We still got sound checks to do." They both got up and walk out of the dressing room and into the arena.
That night's concert in Montreal was especially tiring. It was their first date of the tour in Canada and the fans were wild. The guys were all energized by the crowd's reaction and adrenaline made them more excited about performing. After the concert though it left them drained and exhausted. They were on their way to Toronto to play tomorrow night at the Skydome. The buses roared on to their next destination on the dark open highways of Canada as some of the guys tried to sleep and rest up for the night.
Nick, meanwhile, couldn't get to sleep. So he got out of his bunk and headed for the kitchenette they had in front of the bus. He went up to the refrigerator and took out some Evian. He then sat at the booth and stared out into the darkness of the night. He soon heard scuffling behind him and saw that A.J. was up too. Nick looked away and returned his stare at the darkness in front of him.
A.J. got some sprite from the refrigerator and took a seat across from Nick at the table. He looked upon Nick who seemed to be deep in thought. "Hey Nick. What's up?"
Nick didn't look at A.J. but kept his stare at the outside. He softly answered, "Just thinkin' Bone."
"Trying to think of the next prank you're gonna pull on us, huh?" A.J. tried to joke.
Nick then took his gaze from the outside and placed them on A.J. Nick smiled as he thought of the things he has done over the last month. "Yeah, I guess I've kind of gone overboard haven't I?"
"No, it's nice to see the old Nick back."
"I didn't know I was gone." Nick said disspirited as he returned his gaze onto the window.
A.J. tried to think of something to say to Nick but came up to change the subject instead. "So, you and Justin seems to be getting along."
"Yeah, he's cool. He's my crony. Whenever we're together we just goof around like thirteen year olds." Nick said returning to look at A.J.
"So you guys good friends then?"
"Yeah, the best." Nick said with the biggest smile on his face.
"Just friends?"
"Yeah, friends." Nick answered inquisitively.
"You and Brian were friends and then you know you were something else."
"Yeah so?"
"Well maybe you think it will become more than just friends."
"Look A.J." Nick said with authority, "Me and Justin are friends. We hang out together. We have a good time. We play ball and then we play pranks on you guys. That's it."
"If you say so Nicky."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"Nick, I know you're pretty sly and pretty smart for a blonde," A.J. tried to joke his way to the point, "but I know you rather well and I can see something brewing in your heart."
"Well, I don't see it."
"I think you will sooner or later." After that, Nick just looked away from A.J. and again stared out into the darkness that was Canada. He tried to shut himself out as if A.J. was not there and tried to think. A.J. noticed that he wasn't going to get anywhere with Nick tonight. `Maybe I pushed too hard.' A.J. got up and threw his container away at the garbage can. A.J. was heading back towards the bunks but before he got to the door a thought came into his mind. "I have a question Nick." A.J. waited for any sign from Nick but nothing came. "Are you still in love with Brian?" A.J. stood there for a second for Nick's reply before leaving the room and heading for the bunks.
Nick contemplated A.J.'s question for what seemed to him like eternity. He thought and thought but nothing came. The question was not easy to answer and it seemed like his heart and brain stopped working. It was simply just his body that was there left to contemplate the question. "I don't know Bone. I don't know." Nick said quietly.
To be continued....
So, what should happen now? What will Nick do? Is he still in love with Brian? What's going to happen with Linda gone? Is it just lust for Justin or is it love?
