This is my new story, Different Styles of Dominic. I'm still writing the Adrian Story but it will be more on hold for now. I want to try to expand my fictional horizon and see what I can write when I get the inspiration. Now, for the characters of this story, there's Dominic, the main character. There's also his younger brother Ishmael, as well as his best friend Evan
Now, the story. . .
Chapter 1 - Introduction of Life
Ok, so now, explain to me why am I in this class in the first place. I shouldn't be here. Ok, maybe I should. I don't know. I never know. I'm not a leader, but a follower, one who is behind the master like a loyal puppy. I guess that's what I am. The loyal puppy. Wait, no, I'm not the loyal puppy. I'm better. Way better than that. I know that for a fact. I do belong in the class. Oh snap, what did she say?? Project?? We just finished one. Why another one. Wait, her lips, they moved liked mine do when I say my name. . .
"Dominic, Dominic, DOMINIC!!"
Oh crap, she was calling my name. Shit, ok Dom, answer, answer, ANSWER THE DAMN WOMAN!!!!
"Yes Mrs. Sullivan??" Oh wow, close call. Maybe I won't get in trouble.
"Dominic Alvarez-Vazquez, pay attention in my class or you shall receive a failing grade. Granted you are top student, but don't you dare let that go to your head and think you have nothing to worry about. Now, students, please get a piece of paper and something to write with out. I will giving you some notes on the project. The instructions are on the paper that DOMINIC will be passing out now."
I got up out of my seat and went speed walking straight to the front of the class to get the papers. I was already nervous because she had already gotten mad. I grabbed the papers and started passing them out. When I reached to my desk, I noticed that the papers were numbered and the paper I was looking had the number 4 in the upper right hand corner. I placed that packet on my desk and kept going. I finished passing the papers out and sat back down. I looked up front and saw Mrs. Sullivan smiling at me.
"Ok, now, this project is based on the number on the top right hand corner of the first packet of papers that Dominic handed out. Now the numbers range from 1 to 10 as there are 23 people in this class, there will be three groups with three people. Now, if you don't like the projects you have received from Dominic, I am giving you one day to switch your assignments till you find the partner you want and or project. Yes, I made this confusing as difficult as possible for you students."
She said that last part with a smile on her face.
"Now, everyone has that piece of paper out and a pen, you will now write down who has what assignment. Ok, first, number 1, the mechanics of the digestive system. Second, the mechanics of breathing within the lungs. Third, that will be neurological activity, as in firing of synapses, and nerve endings, the spinal cord, ventral and dorsal horns, yadda yadda yadda. Fourth, that is male sexual reproduction. Fifth is female sexual reproduction. Sixth is . . . . ."
After I heard the fourth and fifth topics, my mind was gone. I already had my topic, I really didn't feel like wasting the energy to try trading and changing my topic. I kept staring at my paper, trying to read the directions but they weren't comprehending in my mind.
"Ok, well, now, since we have 2 minutes left in class, you may talk quietly, or do some of the homework do tomorrow in class." Mrs. Sullivan looked down and began writing in her book. When she was down for about 3 seconds, I looked back and saw my best friend, Evan, smile at me.
Evan is 17, like me. He's about 6 foot 1, while I'm 6 foot 5. He's more chubbier than I am because he doesn't do as many sports as I do. I play football during the Fall, basketball during the Winter, and the baseball during the Spring. He only plays baseball during the Spring with me. He's really smart when he wants to be, since he's always been in all of my classes and I always go for Honors classes and AP classes as well.
"Dude, what's gonna happen today after school?" He asked me wondering if he was getting a ride home. He always did but there were times that I couldn't because of work or some thing that just came up. A lot of times, it's because of that.
"Yeah, you can come home with me. My dad won't be home cuz he's doing a double shift at the hospital. The only thing that I gotta do is bring the car to the shop and then we can go home after. You already know that Izzy is coming home with us since JV basketball is already done."
Izzy is my little brother. He's a Junior here at the school. His real name is Ishmael Alvarez-Vazquez. He's 16, and he's a straight A student like me, but he's way more lazy than I am. We always hang out and we just have that cool brother relationship.
"Ok, that's fine. What are you getting fixed on your car??"
"Just the oil, and also, the service engine light turned on and I wanted to check that out. It turned on when I was waiting for Izzy to get out of work last night. I turned the car on and then it started making this clacking noise so I wasn't sure what was going on. I told my dad when we got home and he told me to bring it in to his cousin's autoshop and they'll check it out so that's what I gotta do after school. I was just gonna plan on bringing Izzy home and then go to the autoshop."
"Where's the autoshop?"
"It's in Springfield, it's near the McDonald's that Izzy works at, on Main Street. It's near the Old San Juan Bakery."
"Uhh, dude, I'm white, Springfield is not native to me and you know that." He started laughing and I smacked him in the back of the head.
"Dude, I've brought you with me to bring Izzy to work. I have to pass it just to get to the McDonald's off the highway. It's literally right there. Right when I drop off Izzy, I go out the front way of the parking lot and that's Main Street. You honestly can't tell me that you can't see the auto shop that's right in front of us." I smiled at him and he rolled his eyes and looked forward. I took out my journal notebook and began writing in it. I had an English Honors assignment freshmen year in High School with Mrs. Duprey. She wanted us to buy a notebook in October. Starting on October 13 all the way to November 21, we were to put in a journal entry about anything we wanted. All I did was just put down my daily activities and then added my feelings to it. Since she added that we had free speech and poetic license to do whatever we wanted to do, within limitations of course, we did just that. That was around the time that my mother had moved out and went to live with her boyfriend, soon to be our stepfather. Izzy and I never liked him, he's been around since we were 6 years old. My parents just decided to stay living together for our sakes, and we were okay with it. It wasn't until my stepfather had actually slapped Izzy on the face for running around his house, I had gotten mad and defended my brother but a man that is 6 foot 3 against an 8 year old that was only 5 foot 3, that's not much of a match. I had gotten my ass kicked very good, my brother crying with a hand print on his face and then me with a numb left arm and a black eye, best believe my father went crazy when we had arrived home and showed him what had happened. My father took a bat and then went to his house and kicked his ass very well. The irony of it, when my father went to work that day, the first patient on his rounds that he had was my stepfather. That was a lovely day. Ever since that day, although Izzy is strong, he always avoided confrontation. I on the other hand am completely different, mess with Izzy, you go through me. I began writing in my journal about my flashback when the bell rang. I was annoyed because I always hated starting a new journal entry and then having to stop mid-way to do something else. I guess it was a conditioned habit. Everyone knew about it and they know to leave me to writing. It was like my way out, to escape the world, like my spirit realm, only me and I can let my mind fully wander.
I picked up my things and started walking out of the classroom and went to my next class, which was AP Spanish 5. It was on the other side of the school so I walked when I felt an arm around me and hug me.
"Hey bro, you going to Spanish now?" it was Izzy, always with that smile on his face. He went with me, like always. His class was next to mine and he was in Spanish 4 Honors with me. They decided to combine Spanish 5 with Spanish4 since the amount of people for Spanish 5 wasn't enough to make its own class. So now I have a class with Izzy, I like that.
"Yeah, let's go. Oh, before I forget, I gotta bring the car into the shop today after school. I'm gonna drop you off at home and then Evan is coming with me to the shop and then we were gonna go back home. Don't forget too, that dad is doing a double shift tonight at the hospital so we won't see him tonight. If anything, I still have some extra money on my card. I was gonna buy us food anyways so decide what you are in the mood later and then we'll go and get it." He nodded his approval and we walked into class and took our seats next to each other and waited for Mr. Allard to come to class. He came in and just sat at his desk and started gossiping with everyone in the class. He taught class but it was very laidback. It was good. I smiled and took out my journal book. I opened it but I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked to my left to ask Izzy what was up.
"What's up?" I asked smiling.
"Can we go to the store after school? I need some deodorant? I was gonna ask you if you can bring me."
"Yeah, that's fine. I'll just bring you to the shop then. Easier that way." I smiled back at him and went back to my journal writing. I continued writing and writing and I had heard the bell ring in my ear. I looked up and I saw Izzy starting to pack his bag up. I looked back down at my journal and saw I had written three pages and not had noticed I had done so. I still wasn't even done yet and it was already the end of the day. I got my things and passed my keys to the car to Izzy and he nodded. We went to our stacks, his being on the first floor, mine upstairs in the library. I grabbed my English book, my World Religions book, and my Advanced Biology book and placed them into my bag. I grabbed my Blue Ecko sweater and put it on and started to walk out.
"Hey Dom, hold up!" I looked to my right and saw my friend Angel running up to me. Angel is a senior too, she's really nice and we've been friends since like 6th grade that we went to Mater Dolorosa in Holyoke.
"Hey girl, what's up?" I gave her a hug and smiled at her.
"Nothing, I was gonna ask you if you are going to that party tomorrow night at my house in Springfield. So are you coming?" While she was talking and telling me the info, she was digging through her bag. She found my World Religions notebook and handed it to me. I nodded my thanks and answered.
"Yeah, most likely. I gotta make sure I have my car cuz I gotta bring it in today. My service engine light turned on when I went to pick up Izzy last night from work. It's been making this weird noise so I told my dad and he called his cousin to check it out today. But hopefully, I can drive it, and if I can, I'll definitely go to your party." I smiled at her, gave her a hug and she went back to her stacks. I started walking down the stairs to the first floor and went out the back entrance to the parking lots. I saw my car there with the wipers going and the lights on. Izzy was already in the car. I opened up my doors and saw Evan sitting in the back and Izzy in the front.
"Ok, now, first, we're going to the store to get Izzy's things, he's needs a couple of things. Then, to Springfield to the shop. I gotta take the streets cuz I don't know if my car can take the highway and going fast. Everyone ready?" Izzy and Evan both said yes and we were on our way.
~~~~~
I signed the paperwork to release my car, my baby, well, technically, it was a present and all, but still, it was mine. It was a silver 2003 Honda Accord, with rims and a nice black stripe on the side. I loved it. It was just so kind to me. Apparently, the problem was that the fan belt was a bit torn and everytime I started it, it kept getting more and more ripped. My dad's cousin told me I was lucky to bring it in today because who knows how long I would have had before it had finally been torn. He replaced the piece within 3 minutes and I was already signing my car out. He told me it was a simple thing and he wouldn't charge me so I was glad. I got my car and we went out of the garage.
"Ok, well, now what? Here I was thinking the repair was going to take so long and it was fixed so fast." I said smiling to Izzy and Evan.
"Well, why don't we go to get pizza? There has to be a nice restaurant that has good pizza in the area. The only one I can think of is the pizzeria in Northampton that's like a little booth kind of deal, on Main Street." Evan replied looking clueless and out the window. That was Evan, looking so dazed and he was perfectly fine.
"No, we'll go somewhere within the regions of Holyoke, you know, the city where we live, sound good?? How bout Dino's on Homestead?" Izzy laughed out. He had a point though. I didn't feel like driving 30 minutes just for a quick bite. At least Dino's was right only about a 10 minute drive from where I lived.
"Ok, Dino's, sounds good to me, now, let's get to Holyoke." I pulled out of the lot and got onto the highway, Interstate 91 North and went off to Holyoke, getting ready to stuff our faces and have our fun, Evan Mackenzie, Ishmael Alvarez-Vazquez, and me, Dominic Alvarez-Vazquez, the three of us, like always.
