Dave's Gift
by Lita
"You like him don't you?" Kyle's voice lifted me from my daydream.
"What?"
"I've noticed you've been checkin him out Shane."
"Who?"
"David." Kyle and I had been best friend since the first grade and we were now seniors in highschool. He didn't know I was gay, I hadn't the courage to tell him yet.
Yes I had been looking at David, he was playing basketball shirtless in the gym and sweat rolled down his muscles from his heavy workout.
"What do you mean?"
"You wanna fuck him don't you?" Kyle didn't know that I already had. Every weekend for the past two monthes in fact. In short, he was considerd my boyfriend.
"You callin me a fag, Kyle?"
"No, but you look at him more than you look at girls."
"He's my friend."
"You don't look at me like that."
"You don't play basketball."
I found Kyle sitting on the hood of my car after school one day about a week later. Kyle was beautiful, blonde hair that came right below his ears, he was thin, but not too. He had muscles from playing soccer but thats about it. The only thing I hated about him was he was straight.
"What's up, Kyle?"
"My car broke down ths morning, give me a lift home?"
"Only if you don't mind taking Dave with us."
"Nevermind, I'll walk."
"Don't be a shithead, Kyle!" He was about to say something when Dave ran up to us. "Hi!"
"Hey, Dave, I hope you don't mind me taking Kyle home."
"Nope."
"You comin over?"
"No, I got a big report due on Monday."
"Oh, OK cool." We got in the car. Dave sat in front which used to always be reserved to Kyle, and Kyle silently slipped into the back.
Kyle lived closer to me than Dave did so I took Dave home first. We pulled up in front of his house and he looked over at me, "Come inside for a min Shane, I got somethin I need to give ya."
"Alright, be right back Kyle." I hopped out of the car and up to David's house. Once inside he shut the door.
"Why'd you have to give him a ride home?"
"He's my friend and he needed one."
"I was hoping you would stay and help me with my report." He kissed me.
"You'd never get it done."
"Will you come visit me?"
"Only if you're a good boy an finish all your work, I'll come by and give you a reward." He wimperd and kissed on my neck, his hands explored my body. "Not now, Kyle's outside"
"You're gonna have to tell him about us."
"I'm not ready to come out yet."
"Your dick looks ready to come out." he grabbed my growing cock under my jeans and I staggard backwards."
"Mmmm.. I gotta take Kyle home."
"Come back when you're done?"
"If I come back I'll never leave and you'll never get that report done. Plus I gotta work later." He kissed me again and I began to open the door, "Goodbye love."
I ran back to the car with a ragging hardon, I hoped Kyle wouldn't notice, but it was a little too obvious "So what did Dave give you besides a bone?"
"Shut up, Kyle."
"You do like him don't you?"
"Shut up, Kyle!"
"You ARE gay!" I don't know what came over me but I punched him in the face.
"Oh shit! Kyle, man, I am so sorry."
"Just take me home."
Five minutes later I pulled up outside of his house, he jumpped out and ran into the house. "Kyle!" I followed him and let myself in.
"Get the fuck outta my house!"
"C'mon Kyle, I'm sorry."
"You punched me in the face."
"You pissed me off!!"
"You pissed me off!"
"How?"
"You've been hanging around with Dave and you forgot all about me."
"I didn't forget about you!"
"You never call me anymore just to talk. Everytime I call you the line is busy, and when I do get through your mom tells me that you are out with Dave. You never want to do anything with me anymore. You are supposed to be my best friend." He was crying really hard now and it wasn't just from me punching him.
I figured it was now or never, "Kyle, I'm gay." He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and looked at me, "Dave and I are kinda seein each other." Kyle started crying harder. I walked over to give him a hug but he backed away.
"Go away and leave me alone!" He turned and ran into the other room.
I felt bad the entire weekend, I had just lost my best friend and he knew I was gay. By Monday the entire school would know that Dave and I were a couple, and my life will be over.
Dave called five times on Sunday but I told my mom to tell him I didn't want talk. He showed up at my front door at four.
He ran up the stairs and into my room, "You mad at me?"
"No."
"No? I could have sworn I called you many times and you didn't want to talk. Did I do something wrong?"
"No."
"Then--?"
"I told Kyle about us."
"And?"
"He kicked me outta his house." Dave reached over and hugged me.
"I'm sorry, Shane."
"It wasn't you. I needed to tell him."
"Hey, you still have me. I know you're gay and I'm still your friend."
"I love you, David."
"I love you and I promise I will never leave you."
The next day at school Kyle just looked at me, but as far as I knew he kept my little secret to himself.
Days, weeks, monthes passed and Kyle just ignored me. In the spring he played soccer. I used to love watching him play, he was so good. He was definetly one of the best players on the team.
I went to Kyle's games and made sure to hide from him. The team was really good this year winning more than 3/4 of their games. But the victory that he had always shared with me was now with his other friends.
He took our team to state and won -- something he wanted to do since freshmann year. I went home that night and celebrated his victory by myself, I was so happy for him.
More monthes passed and it was June. My relationship with David was slowly falling apart. No matter how much I loved him and wanted to be with him, I wanted to be with Kyle ten times more.
"Kyle or me, Shane?"
"Don't do this to me Dave."
"Kyle or me?"
"You know I love you Dave, but I miss being with Kyle."
"Do you really think he still thinks about you?! He's moved on, why can't you?"
I didn't answer, I didn't want to move on. "Fine Shane, I'm leaving. When you are ready to be with me again I'll come back."
Graduation came and everyone was all smiles, except me. Dave and I hadn't really talked since he asked me to choose.
I was walking to my car when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to find Kyle standing behind me, "Hi, Shane"
"Hey, Kyle."
"I just wanted to tell you goodbye, I'll be going to UCLA in the Fall. I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye."
"UCLA? Good, I'm happy for you, I haven't really thought about college yet."
"Well you got all summer. Hey look, there is a party down by the old warehouse, you wanna come?"
"Naw, I'm already goin to a party. But maybe I'll stop by later."
"OK cool. So maybe I'll see you there?"
"Yeah." I turned and walked away."
I walked in my house and my mother was there "No party tonight Shane?"
"I really don't feel like partin mom."
"You and Dave going to go somewhere?"
"Naw he's out partyin."
"I think you should go."
"Oh, so you WANT me to go get drunk?"
"No--"
"Then leave me alone!" I ran up the stairs to my room and slamed the door. I hated my life.
I layed on my bed for the longest time just thinkin about Dave, and about Kyle. I don't remember when it was I fell asleep.
I woke up to knocking at my door, "What?"
"Can I come in?" It was Kyle.
"Yeah." he opened my door, he was really pale, he looked as if he had been crying. "What time is it Kyle?"
"Around four I think."
"In the morning??"
"Yeah," He sat on my bed, "I have something to tell you Shane."
"At four in the morning?!"
"Its something I thought you should hear from a friend first," I bit my tounge to keep from asking him why he was here then. "Dave showed up the warehouse, he was pretty drunk. He said he was looking for you, but I told him that you went to another party. He said you weren't at any of the parties he knew about. I said you were probably here, he was gonna drive over here to come see you. I told him to stay and sober up some but he told me to fuck off and left." his story was putting me back to sleep, "Dave was in an accident, Shane." I was awake now.
"Is he OK?"
"He--he--died, Shane. I am so sorry." At first it didn't register, but after about a minute it hit me. I began crying. Kyle rubbed my back and told me that everything was gonna be OK. He said it was all his fault, he never should have let Dave go. I didn't arguee with him, in my heart I knew it was Kyle's fault.
I cried for a long time, until there was no tears left to cry. Kyle pulled a cover over me and gave me a quick hug before he got up to leave, "No -- please stay, Kyle."
"You want me to stay?"
"Please -- you're the only thing I have left." He layed down on the bed beside me.
"I am so sorry, Shane."
My dreams that night were of death and horror. I didn't sleep much, but knowing Kyle was there helped.
Kyle must have told my mom what was going on cuz she let me sleep. Around 2 I opened my eyes and everything that happened only hours before. The tears started again as Kyle's words played through my head, "He--he--died, Shane, I'm so sorry." I fely Kyle's arm wrap around me to let me know he was still there. I cried a little longer before I thanked Kyle for staying with me.
"No problem, Shane, but I should be heading home now."
"OK." He got outta bed and headed for the door, "Kyle?"
"Yeah?"
"I never meant to hurt you."
"I know." He was gone.
He called a little later to see how I was doing. I wasn't really doing all that swell. I asked Kyle to attend the funeral with me.
"Of course I'll go with you."
It was a nice funeral. Kyle walked up to Dave's casket to take one last look at his beautiful face. He let me cry on his shoulder, I don't know how I could have gotten through it without him.
He took me home and led me inside, and sat me on the couch. He let me cry on his shoulder one more time.
He got up to leave but I stopped him, "Thanks for everything you have done for me."
"I know how much he meant to you."
"It wasn't your fault, Kyle. You couldn't have stopped him even if you tried."
"Thanks, I really needed to hear that."
He began calling me everyday after that. We talked about college and life life after. I rarely left the house, my mom began to worry about me.
It was the middle of July before she voiced her concerns, "Just go for a walk, through the woods. It will get you out of the house and give you some time to think. Go alone or take Kyle with you."
I went walking the next day, but I didn't ask Kyle to join me.
These woods connected my house to Kyle's, we used to meet in a clearing and have fun together. As we got older we would have jackoff sessions back there. I still remember the day I taught him how to do it. We would say we were thinking about some hot girl at school, but I would always be thinking of him. When he took that beautful meat of his in hand, that would really get me going and I would almost orgasm on the spot.
I wanted to be with him up until I met Dave. Dave took me in his arms and made me promises I knew he would never keep, but I stayed with him cuz I couldn't have Kyle.
I came to the clearing and sat on the ground. Memories of my youth filled my head. I felt me hands along the soft ground where Kyle and I had "planted our seed". I layed on the ground and quickly feel asleep.
David and I are playing basketball and he is winning. Shot after shot go into the net. 16, 17, 18 shots. He turns and smiles at me. He throws the ball to me, but it isn't a basketball. I look at the black and white checkerd ball in my hands and back up at Dave, but he's not there.
I woke up and it was dark. Kyle's house was closer to the clearing than my own and I really didn't feel like walking all the way back to my house. I figured Kyle could give me a ride home.
I got into his backyard and everything was silent. I saw the soccer ball on the back porch and my dream came back to me. Before I could figure out what it meant Kyle stepped out of the house with a flashlight. He almost jumped when he saw me, "Shane?"
"Yeah."
"Shit man, you scared the fuck outta me! Your mom called and said you went for a walk in the woods and when you didn't come back she started to worry, so I was goin to see if I could find you."
"I fell alseep in the clearing."
"Wanna ride home? C'mon I'll give ya one."
We got into the car and I told him about my dream, "Well," he said, "the dream has something to do with me."
"The soccer ball?"
"But I'm not quite sure. OH MY GOD!"
"WHAT?!"
"What day is next Thursday?"
"Ummm" I thought about it for a momment, "Oh, its my birthday."
"And how old will you be?"
"18 -- the baskets."
"Yeah! But I still have no idea what thats supposed to be."
"I guess I'll find out next Thursday."
"What you doin for your birthday?"
"Nothin."
"No party?"
"Don't feel like it. How was your party."
"It sucked."
"Why?"
"Cuz you weren't there. You know that was the first birthday you missed since I turned 7?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that."
"I shouldn't have reacted the way I did when you told me."
"It's OK."
"No its not, I was being a jerk."
"Let's just forget about it, we're friends again and thats all that matters."
"But--"
"Shut up, Kyle, leave the past where it is, I wanna cherish the little time we have left before you leave me for college." I got out of the car before he could say anything else.
Thursday came and I begged my mom not to make a big deal out of it. I sat in my room and looked over the letters I had from colleges by myself. My mom had left earlier in the morning so when the doorbell rang, I had to run down the stairs to answer it.
"Kyle!"
"Hey Shane, happy birthday!!"
"Thanks, c'mon in. "
"So what ya doin?"
"Looking at porno and jackin off."
"You're confusing this with your 12th birthday party." We went up to my room and he sat on my desk, "Still looking for a college?"
"Yeah, I'm trying to decide on one I want." He began going through the letters as I went over to my stereo to play some music. I had just put the CD in when he threw one of the letters at me.
"What's this?"
"Open it, see what it says." I looked on the outside of the letter, UCLA. I opened it and read my acceptance into this great school. "So?"
"I got in."
"Well duh, you got a 3.8 GPA, they almost have to let you in. You gonna go?"
"What's there?"
"Me."
"Well -- it IS a good school."
"C'mon Shane, I don't wanna be away from you for so long."
"I'll think about it." We both knew I was going, there was no way I would let him get away from me again.
"What did Dave have that I didn't?" the question came outta nowhere.
"Huh?"
"Why did you never hit on me?"
"Wha?"
"Am I too ugly? Do I smell funky or somethin?"
"No! I think you are beautiful. And you only smell funky after you play soccer for 10 hours straight. But what are you talking about?"
"Basketball."
"You're talking about basketball Kyle?"
"Remember when I first asked about Dave and you? You were watchin him play basketball."
"Yeah."
"Remember what you said when I said you looked at Dave differently than you did me?"
"No."
"'You don't play basketball'"
"News flash, Kyle, you don't play basketball."
"No, but that was the difference between me and him, you loved to watch him play basketball."
"Yeah I did. But I also love watching you play soccer."
"You do?"
"Yes, did you know I went to see every game you played this spring?"
"No."
"Kyle, Dave and I were sorta separated when he died, he couldn't face the fact that I still loved you." I looked up at him and all movement stopped.
"You love me?"
"Of course I do! But I never did anything to you cuz I thought you were straight! You never hit on me either."
"Yeah, I did, when you were sleeping. I used to play with your cock and pray to god you would never wake up."
"I wish I would have, then we could have been together."
"Can we be together now?" He thought about what he said, "Or do you still need a little longer to get over Dave?"
Without responding I walked over to him and put my hand on his face. He closed his eyes as I leaned in and softly kissed his lips. He moaned and kissed me back. My tongue found its way into his mouth, his arms wrapped around me, I was in heaven. "My dream -- David gave me the soccer ball -- he gave me you. He wants us to be together."
