Comic Books Part 9 by Mike Anderson

Previously ....

PRESENT DAY .... SEPTEMBER 5

Bart had whisked the shorts and boxers off. He knelt down to pull off Tanner's sock (probably should have done those first, he thought). A movement out of the corner of his eye caused him to look up and he found himself staring right at the piss slit of Tanner's manhood. The movement he'd seen had been the boy's cock inflate. Bart stopped, transfixed. A strong almost sour aroma oozed from Tanner's groin to Bart's nostrils and then to Bart's groin. He found himself inhaling deeply, cherishing the unexpected and strangely enticing smell. A clear drop formed at the tip. To Bart it looked like the nectar of life. He wanted to taste it ... He moved in a fraction of the distance ...

"Shit, Bart ... I'm sorry. It's been a couple of days ...." Tanner glanced down at the wood he had sprung and found himself babbling a little. Did he really just allude to his jacking habit?

To Bart, the sudden sound of Tanner speaking shattered the spell that Tanner's meat had cast over him. "It's not like it's the first time I've seen you hard, Moses." Bart grinned as he stood up and held out the hospital gown for Tanner to walk into. Tanner moved forward so Bart could tie up the back. He pushed the call button and Nurse Amy appeared. Bart guided Tanner to the wheelchair, only his hand was slightly lower than it should have been; Bart had his hand firmly placed on Tanner's ass. Right before he removed his hand so that he could gently guide Tanner down into the wheelchair, ... Bart gave a squeeze.

And now ....

The CT scan would take about an hour, so Bart decided to surprise Tanner with a small gift. ... Well not a gift, exactly, as what he had in mind was already Tanner's. He figured he could run over to Tanner's grandparent's house and grab a box of comics for them to read. Grandma Laura had been waiting outside the room and had joined him as Tanner was guided down to the X-Ray Department by the nurse. Once Tanner was out of earshot, Bart shared his idea with Laura, who thought it was a wonderful idea ... except ...

"Sorry, Bart, the comic books are still at the cabin. We didn't have room this last trip. Austin and I are heading back up this weekend for one last getaway before the fall classes start." Laura had a little craft studio where she led workshops and classes in all manner of crafts, from painting to ceramics to knitting to several others. From September through March she was busy working with ladies (and some men) of all ages.

Bart's face fell trying to think of something else, but then Laura's expression brightened noticeably. "Wait a second," she began, "I think I remember seeing a couple more boxes of comics up in the attic. ... Let me think .... Yes, yes I'm sure I did." Laura had been looking up to the right and tapping her finger against her freckled face. She returned her gaze to Bart and instructed, "Head over to the house and tell Austin that you need to look in the second attic for the comic books. He'll know where I mean."

With renewed vigor, Bart replied, "Yes, ma'am. Thanks Mrs. B!" With that he headed out of the hospital with purpose. When Tanner had passed out, Bart had called 911 on his phone and then followed the ambulance over on his four-wheel. Now he hopped back on his bike, shoved his red and orange striped helmet on his head and headed out of town to the Brennan's place.

Ten minutes later, he was racing down the long serpentine drive into the Brennan acreage. The residence was located several miles outside of town on an apple orchard. He stopped short by the front door, stowed his helmet and walked onto the porch. Austin Brennan was sitting on the porch enjoying a Sam Adams.

Austin waved to his grandson's friend and greeted him, "Bart, Laurie just called me and told me Tanner's doing just fine, all thanks to you." Austin Brennan was in his late sixties and sported a brush-cut balding grey head of hair peppered with black. He had leathery bronzed skin that hearkened to years of sun and cigarettes. His shoulders were broad and he was very solid in appearance, albeit with a not atypical beer bulge in the gut.

He tended to come off as reserved, yet kindly, especially to those he knew and liked. And he had grown to like Bart, despite the fact that Nicholas Allen was his father. Truth be told, Austin felt a need to take Bart under his wing BECAUSE Nicholas Allen was his father. -- That bastard -- Austin could stop himself from thinking.

"Hey, Mr. Brennan." Bart always addressed Tanner's grandfather by his last name and Mr. Brennan respected him for it. The kid's got some class, he often told himself.

"Mrs. B said you could help me get some comics for Tanner and I to read at the hospital. She said there were some in the second attic. She said you'd know where that was."

Bart noticed that Mr. Brennan's eyes widen in shock for a moment. It was so brief a change in his expression, that he almost thought he'd imagined it. Except, that Mr. Brennan also seemed to be tongue-tied for another moment, before he finally replied, "The second attic, you say? Well, she must know what she's doing, so come on in, my young Bart and I will get you the comics." He turned towards the screen door and motioned with his arm for Bart to follow him.

The second attic turned out to be exactly what it sounded like. First Mr. Brennan led Bart to the 3rd floor, where he pulled down the trapdoor to the main attic. After climbing up the uncollapsed ladder, Mr. Brennan proceeded to the south wall of the attic. There he pulled down on a coat hook and twisted it several times. With an audible snap, a portion of the wall sprung out, revealing a cleverly disguised closet. Bart could see several boxes of various sizes and a couple of safes stacked up inside. Specifically he saw three white comic book boxes. Mr. Brennan grabbed one and brought it out.

"Here ya go, son. You and Tanner enjoy..."

"Thanks, Mr. Brennan, we will!"

As Bart turned away, Mr. Brennan was closing the door. Bart had set the box down next to the trapdoor and had placed his foot on the the top rung, when Mr. Brennan called out to him, "Oh ... and Bart ... do me a favor and forget you saw the second attic ... unless you're in this house. I'd rather no one know about it."

Bart simply said, "No problem, Mr. B ... my lips are sealed," before scurrying down the ladder and out to his bike. He strapped the box down in the small bed on the back of his bike and then headed back to the hospital.

As he entered the room, he found Tanner sitting up in bed, opening up a paper bag with a bunch of golden arches on it. Grandma Laura was sitting on a recliner with her own bag. She set it on the floor, got up and grabbed a third bag that had been sitting on the window ledge and handed it to Bart. "Here you go," she said, "I figured you'd want to eat with us. I got you two quarter pounders with cheese. Your favorite, if I remember correctly."

Grandma Laura's thoughtfulness made Bart feel a little tingly and warm. Compared to his family, the Brennan's were so different. Bart was close to his mom ... well as close as could be given the circumstances ... but his dad was a different story. Nicholas Allen had never seemed to have any time for Bart. Mikey had been his favorite by far. Bart had never resented his brother for that, but he had been jealous at times of the attention his dad had shown to Mikey. Unfortunately, his mom never stood up for him and consequently he often felt like an unwanted child. Bart NEVER felt that way with the Brennan's. They treated him like a second grandson.

"Thanks, Mrs. B. It sure is." He looked in the and and pulled out the drink. `You even remembered I like orange! You're the best! Thanks!" Laura flushed at the enthused youth's compliment. Silently she gave a prayer of thanks Bart being in Tanner's life.

Tanner, having noticed the white box that Bart had brought in, set down his burger and turned towards Bart. "Sweet! Comic books!" Then Tanner frowned in confusion. "But where did you get them from? All of mine are still out at the cabin?"

"I decided to start collecting comic books after I got back from this summer."

"Really?"

"Of course not! Even if I had, I wouldn't have any where near enough to fill a box full." He looked over at Mrs. Brennan with mock concern on his face and asked in a doleful voice, "The CT scan showed nothing going on up there, didn't it?" Laura gave into a small laugh.

"Guess not," she confided loudly.

"Ha ha, very funny," Tanner retorted adroitly. "So, seriously, where did you get them?"

Bart had noticed something remarkable on the way over, specifically a small white seven marked on the box. He wasn't sure what all the cloak and dagger was about, but he also wasn't about to give away secrets that he didn't even know. He'd devised a little subterfuge that he could explain to Tanner at another time. He glanced over at Mrs. Brennan. There was a slight tightening of her eyes, as if she were anxious to hear his explanation as well. That confirmed for him the need for caution, even though he didn't understand why.

The answer he gave was, "I mentioned to your grandma that I wanted to run over to your house and grab a box of comic books. At first she told me that all of them were still at the the cabin." He paused ... for dramatic effect ... "BUT THEN ... she remembered she'd managed to fit one box in the trunk to `tide you over' til they brought the rest of them back."

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Mrs. Brennan relaxed visibly. He didn't view his deception as lying to Tanner, since he knew he'd come clean the moment they were somewhere private outside the hospital.

The boys waited until after they ate to open the box, not wanting to get grease on the books. After washing their hands and making sure all the traces of food were gone from the tray and bed, the boys cracked open the box. There wasn't enough room in the twin sized hospital bed for them to lay down and read the books, as they normally did. Instead, they sat on the edge next to each other and used the food tray to rest the comic on.

Tanner knew instantly that Bart's tale was just that ... a made up story. They had cataloged each comic book this summer, and none of the ones in this box had been seen before. Tanner just stared on Bart, asking him silently, Well?" Bart stared back and mouthed, Later'. Tanner relented and soon lost himself in the wonder of an as yet unseen treasure trove of his father's comic books.

"You know Tanner," Grandma Laura interjected at one point, "I think your father's favorite comic book was The Flash. He just loved how he ran so much and did such good."

As it happened, no sooner had she made that comment than Bart pulled out a copy of the Flash. As he pulled it out of the protective sleeve so they could look at it, a 3x5 note card fell out and remained in the plastic bag. Bart reached in, pulled it out and showed it to Tanner. On one side was written the word "Arachnid" in the bottom right corner. A small stick figure was drawn at the end of the word. The rest of that side of the card was filled with numbers and dashes.

Tanner began to say, "What is .... "

Like a light switch being turned on, an epiphany exploded in Bart's mind. It was a crazy notion, one he would have discounted out of hand any other time. .... But, with all the odd things that Tanner's grandparents had said and did this evening, Bart was sure he was right.

"I'm sure it's just a bookmark, Kegger. Hey, look at this one." As nonchalantly as he could, Bart placed the copy of The Flash back in the sleeve, returned it to the box and grabbed another one out.

Tanner gave him another look, letting Bart know that he hadn't been as nonchalant has he had thought ... but he kept quiet. Bart, for his part, desperately wanted to share his discovery with Tanner, but knew it had to wait. Arachnid and a person --- a spider and a man --- Spiderman.

He was sure the numbers referred to a code. As soon as he'd recognized what the word and symbol stood for, he remembered the Spiderman comics with all the random words underlined. He had no doubt that the numbers would point to what order those words should be put. He just couldn't stop wonder -- What was the message?

The boys read comic until a little before eight o'clock, when visiting hours were over. Grandma Laura came over, gave Tanner kiss on the forehead, gave Bart a light hug, said her farewells and left.

"Guess I should get going to," Bart offered. Turning his face towards Tanner. They were still sitting on the bed next to each other. Bart became aware for the first time that their legs were pressed up against each other. Tanner, now looking at Bart, realized the same thing at the same time. Neither boy moved away.

Tanner gave a small sigh, turned his head slightly and lowered it onto Bart's shoulder. He had moved his hand behind Bart's back and gave him a side arm hug as he did so. Bart let his arm lower and rest on Tanner's leg.

The sat there for several minutes, not wanting to shatter the mood with words.

Tanner, being Tanner though, finally had to say something. "What is this Suds?"

Bart found that he had been gently caressing Tanner's thigh with his hand. "I don't know Kegger." He paused. He had more to say, though ...

The words were in his mind, he was shouting them inside his skull

... but his tongue wouldn't move. This mouth was suddenly parched and dry

... His tongue felt swollen

Finally, after an eternity which probably lasted all of 30 seconds, he began to whisper them hoarsely ... "but i ...."

"Eight o'clock ... time for your friend to head home." The cheery voice of the nurse interrupted Bart and prevented him from finishing the thought. Her entry caused the boys to move apart like they'd been pinched from behind. She didn't give them much of a chance to say anymore, other than a quick "See you tomorrow." before she shooed Bart out.

With weak smiles on both parts, the boys bumped fists and Bart left. He rode back to his house and got ready for bed. It was still early enough in the school year that his homework was minimal.

He checked his e-mail and saw that he had one from his coach. The coach told him that Tim had explained the situation and now he wanted to make sure Bart was doing OK.

Bart replied back saying all was great, and he'd be at practice tomorrow no sweat.

He climbed in bed ... naked as he now always slept.

He felt alone. He often did when he first got in bed. He also knew why ... Tanner wasn't here. As he lay on his back, Bart's hand moved down to his groin and softly and slowly fiddled with his nut sack. An image formed in his mind of him being on his knees in the hospital room with Tanner's cock sticking out straight, surrounded by the beautiful and exotic wiry red bush. The drop of pre-cum that had formed at the tip became larger than life and a strange desire to stick out his tongue and taste it stole over him.

Tanner's final question echoed in his mind, "What is this, Suds?" Only this time, in his fantasy Bart didn't hesitate, he didn't feel tongue-tied. He simply replied, "I don't know, Kegger, but I want to find out." With that, he leaned in and touched his lips Tanner's, followed by a wrestling of tongues.

Of its own volition, Bart's hand let go of his gnads and grabbed his hardened shaft. It only took a half a dozen tight strokes before numerous volleys of boy goo erupted onto his chest, coating him in a sticky glaze of white.....

More to come....
