CHAPTER 3

Saturday morning came even quicker than Adam had wished. He got up and dressed quickly, headed to the kitchen for cereal and juice, and out to the back to finish his one chore.

Adam reached down for the rake, which lay near the leaf pile from the evening before. His mom had reminded him about going to the comic shop this weekend but had thrown in that that he had to rake the back yard and bag the leaves for the trash man. Raking not being his favorite activity, Adam tended to goof off a lot during the process of finishing the job.

Francine stepped out onto the back porch holding a cup of steaming coffee in her hands. She wore her favorite green housecoat and Bugs Bunny slippers. The coat had been a birthday gift from Harry and the slippers from Adam. She was very sentimental about gifts from her two guys. Her eyes settled on Adam as he raked more leaves into the pile he had started after school the day before.

She had not said a word to Adam about what she had heard Wednesday night but it still stayed with her. She made a mental note that she would have to stop by the pharmacy while they were out doing errands; condoms were going to be needed if she was to continue being comfortable with Adam and Jesse's experimentation.

Adam waved at his mom when he noticed her watching him. She had been acting strange for several days, like she had something to say but wasn't sure how to say it. It was unusual for his mom to hold back asking or saying anything she wanted to say. He knew that there would be a discussion about whatever was on her mind before the weekend was over.

He moved the rake back and started gathering another bunch of leaves to add to the growing pile. He wished he had someone to help him, like Jesse or Tommy. Both boys had helped him with this before but neither was around for this boring chore.

As Adam raked and thought, Jesse walked up the drive and into the back yard. He saw Adam working and with a quick glance to the porch saw Adam's mom watching. He walked over to where she was sitting in a lawn chair drinking her coffee.

"Good morning Jesse." Francine said with a smile. She didn't even move her head his direction. It was like she just knew he was there.

"Morning." He said. "I guess I'll go help Adam out so we can get to the store early." He picked up the box of trash bags from the table. Thursday morning Adam's mom had told him that if he wanted to go with them to the comic store he would be welcome to come along. Jesse knew that meant to show up early on Saturday and help with whatever chore Adam was stuck with for the weekend. It was a tradition with the three of them; he and Adam would get whatever needed doing done and she would take them somewhere special after they were finished. He had meant to come over the afternoon before but his own mom had plans for him so he had to call and let Adam know not to expect him until Saturday morning.

It was also tradition for him to stay the night on Saturday and watch whatever horror movie the three of them had picked out for the night.

Jesse liked Adam's mom. She had always been nicer and more fun than any of his other friend's moms, especially Tommy Blake's. Now there was a hateful old bitch if there ever was one. She rarely let Tommy out of the house on the weekend. He had to do everything around the house because his dad had taken off years before and she was too damn lazy to do anything. If it weren't for Tommy's desire to get an education and get away from her, he wouldn't even have to bother with school at all. His mom would just as soon he stayed home all day every day and did what she wanted.

"Dude." Jesse said as he pulled a bag from the box and shook it out so he could find the opening. "Sorry I'm late man. Mom had me cleaning the garage and the storage building yesterday. I stayed in bed and slept because it was like one in the morning before I finished."

"You could have waited and finished today." Adam said without looking at his friend. He was still a little confused and worried about what they had done Wednesday evening. Jesse hadn't said anything about it and Adam wasn't about to either. He kind of wanted to do it again but he didn't know if he should make the move or not because the idea of Jesse putting his dick up his ass still bothered him.

"I know. I just didn't want her to have a reason to not let me come over here for the rest of the weekend."

"Cool." Adam said. He stopped raking and picked up a pile of leaves, pushing both arms into the now open trash bag that Jesse held for him. He repeated this step over and over until the bag was packed full and Jesse opened the next one.

Adam looked over to the porch to see if his mom was still there watching them. She was gone. He looked at Jesse. The boy stood bent over, his tight cut off jeans showing off the tight young ass underneath. Adam could see that Jesse was not wearing anything under them and this made him want to get inside those shorts. The football jersey he wore barely covered him to his lower rib, leaving the smooth stomach bare.

Jesse felt Adam's eyes on his ass and stayed bent over so that his friend could get as big an eyeful of what he wanted to. He delayed standing straight for a moment then, when his back started to ache he straightened up, stretching so that the shirt rose higher, revealing his brown nipples.

Adam tossed the rake aside and with a glance back to the house, he pushed Jesse down into the pile of leaves, falling on top of him.

"What are you doing?" Jesse said. He began to laugh as Adam tickled his sides. He ran his arms around Adam's body and twisted hard so that he flipped them both over, giving him the topside advantage. "You are such a sneak!" He looked down into Adam's eyes.

Adam smiled and laughed with his friend. He stopped laughing and moved his face up to connect with Jesse as their lips parted and they kissed. Jesse's tongue moved into Adam's mouth as they began their new game of tonsil hockey.

Francine watched from the window over the kitchen sink and smiled. She didn't have to see the kiss to know what was going on between them. She had heard plenty to confirm her thoughts Wednesday. It was a pleasing sight to her though. The boys looked as though they were falling in love, and that pleased her even more.

She watched as Adam's hands came up and floated down to take a grab onto Jesse's denim covered ass.

"Hmmm, that feels good." Jesse said. He twisted around some so that he had his hard on pushed against Adam's own growing erection. "I think I have an idea for later."

"What's that?" Adam asked. He looked into the dark green eyes of his best friend turned lover.

"Well, My getting into your ass didn't work so well the last time so tonight you are going to put your dick up inside of me instead." Jesse smiled as he spoke. He let out a little laugh before lowering his head and kissing Adam passionately.

"My mom is going to so see us if we keep this up out here." Adam said, pulling away from Jesse though he really wanted to go right up to his room and enter his lover the way he had just invited.

"I guess we better get to work then." Jesse stood up on his knees then got to his feet. He held out a hand to Adam, pulling his friend up from the well strewn out leaves.

"Turn around and I'll knock the mess off of your back." Jesse said.

Adam turned around. He felt Jesse's hands moving up his back, then down, settling on his ass. The hands moved around and pulled him back into the hard body they were attached to. Adam let his friend feel him up from behind, not noticing that they were being watched from the kitchen window.

Jesse's hands moved up Adam's chest, which was covered by an old white T- Shirt. He moved on up to Adam's face and turned the boy's head slightly so that he could give his boyfriend another soulful kiss.

Adam turned himself so that his chest was against Jesse's as they kissed again, letting his hands roam his lover up and down and back up again, hands settling on the bare skin of Jesse's back. The jersey was pushed up from the back by the invading of Adam's hands.

"I do love you Adam." Jesse said when they separated their mouths.

"I^Å I love you to Jesse." Adam bit his lower lip again before the two boys locked lips for another kiss. They were to a point that they wouldn't care if the whole world watched as they made love right in the middle of the leaf pile in the Conner's back yard.

An hour later the yard was cleaned and fifteen black trash bags were sitting by the curb out front waiting for pick up on Monday.

"Well, you guys sure did a great, and rather record breaking quick job." Francine walked out on the back porch with two tall glasses of lemonade. She had changed into a pair of blue running shorts and a pink tank top shirt.

The boys walked over and each took a glass, thanking her as they sat down side by side on the wooden swing. They had removed their shirts so that both sweaty bodies shined in the heat of the sun.

"I think you to should go up and get a shower before we leave. It's already noon and if we want to get all the errands run before dark, we'd better get to it." She sat in the lawn chair she had been using earlier.

"That was some scene I got when I looked outside earlier." She said. She looked from Adam to Jesse, checking the shocked and nervous glance they shot at each other. I mean you two were really going at it for a while there." She picked up the glass she had set out before calling the boys over for their drinks.

"Mom, I^Å" Adam said. He started chewing his bottom lip violently.

"Adam, honey, please stop doing that. You are going to draw blood in a minute." She felt a little guilty for scaring the boys so she decided to let them off the hook. "All that raking, and bagging. I'm surprised you didn't wear yourselves out."

Adam let out a breath he had been holding.

Jesse flexed his hands from the tight fisted hold they had drawn into. He thought that they were done for good and proper that time. He looked at the woman closely as their eyes met.

Francine gave him a knowing but accepting wink "You two are so cute sitting there together." She said.

"Mom!" Adam said, shocked.

All three of them laughed as they went back to drinking the lemonade. They talked about what movie they would look for at the video store and what they wanted for dinner as the boys finished their drinks.

"Go on. Get cleaned up and changed so we can go." She crossed her arms over her firm, well defined breasts.

Once inside Adam's room with the door closed and locked, Jesse sat down on the beanbag chair. "Your mom knows what's going on with us Adam." He said. There was no humor in his voice. He spoke with heavy, serious tones. "She gave me this weird look and I swear it said she was fine with us."

"No way!" Adam sat on the end of his bed. "You really think she saw us making out when she was talking about us working so hard?"

"Oh, she saw us making out. I don't have a doubt about that." Jesse said. He couldn't figure out weather this was a good or bad turn of events for them. His parents knew he was gay; there was no fear of her outing him to them, yet there was still something that bothered him about that look she shot him.

"Damn." Adam bit at his lip again. "Why didn't she just blow us out of the water just then if she knows?"

"I don't know." Jesse said. He stood up and walked into the connecting bathroom. "I really wonder what she has in her head." He called from the other room.

Adam could hear the sound of Jesse's piss as it hit the water and inner base of the toilet. A minute later he heard the shower start.

"You coming or not?" Jesse called out.

"Yeah, I'm on my way." He stood and kicked off his old work tennis shoes as he went toward the bathroom and his lover waiting to bathe with him.

The boys walked into the comic store almost side by side. They were still wondering over what Adam's mom was up to but were also excited about getting back to this place.

The owner stood from where he was sitting at his desk. There was a paperback Jack Ketchum horror novel laying pages down on the desk. Jesse, the true horror nut, looked closer as they passed to see that the title was THE LOST.

"Good book?" Jesse asked as he motioned with his head to the book.

"Yes, it is. Not as gruesome as some of his older titles but a great read. You like Jack Ketchum?" The man asked. There was some skepticism in his voice.

"I like horror. I've never read that guy before." Jesse said as he stood at the counter to talk to the man.

Adam had moved on to the long tables covered with comic boxes. He had pulled several sheets of folded notebook paper from his back pants pocket. Every so often he threw a glance to see what Jesse was up to with the man behind the counter. He tried to remember the man's name as he flipped through the back issues of Justice League Of America, original series. He had already completed his collection up to date on the new title, which was simply, JLA.

"What book are you two talking about?" Francine said as she approached the counter with a small plastic grocery bag full of paperbacks.

"THE LOST by Jack Ketchum." Jesse said.

"Oh! I think I have a copy of that in here." She said as she placed the bag on the counter and began pulling books out and stacking them on the counter. She stopped and handed one of the books to Jesse. "There you go."

"You mind if I read this before you trade it in?" He asked hopefully.

"Sure hon. Are you sure your mom won't mind you reading horror?" Francine asked. She knew that the boy was much more into the horror genre than Adam was or would probably ever be.

"Mom only cares that I read. Hell, she even reads stuff off my shelf sometimes." Jesse realized what he said and looked at the woman. "Sorry."

"Honey, you've said worse than that around me and I haven't said a word to you." Francine said. She smiled at him.

Adam, who had stopped what he was doing to watch the conversation at the front of the store, was not happy. It looked to him like his mom and Jesse were being way to friendly with each other, not that they had ever not gotten along before. He wasn't sure how he felt about this, what with the events of earlier in the day and the conversation he'd had with Jesse after.

Francine looked down the length of the store to see Adam watching them with one of his not amused looks. She wound up what she was saying to Jesse and the owner and walked back to join him.

"You okay babe?" She asked as she came to a stop at his side.

"I didn't realize you and Jesse were so close is all." He said. Adam turned back to the box and pulled out three issues of the comic book title, setting them on his small stack of needed issues.

"Go ahead and pull up to fifty dollars worth Adam. You've been a very good boy lately. Today is something of a special occasion anyway." She said. She had moved her hand to his right shoulder. She moved closer to his ear so that she wouldn't be over heard. "I love you buddy, remember that." She ruffled the hair on his head and walked over to the shelf where the horror paperbacks were and began looking for something she hadn't already read.

"When you going to get back by again Jesse?" Clay said. "I mean alone." He said the last so only Jesse could hear him.

"Not sure. Adam and I have kinda started something and we've been spending a lot more time together." Jesse said. He looked over to Adam and then to where Francine was checking the shelves. He could see she had pulled four paperbacks and had stacked the on top of the bookcase.

"I see. Well, bring him with you some day." Clay looked at his new customer who was building a nice stack of comics. He looked the boy over more closely than he had the first time the kid had come in. "He is well built."

"Yeah, and virgin to." Jesse said. He looked over at his friend again. There was pride in what he said, as though Adam's virginity was something that belonged to him. "He is also mine." Jesse said. This time there was a note of possession in his voice.

"Of course he is Jesse." Clay said as he walked over to a glass display case and pulled something from inside, He brought the comic book back to the cash register area and handed it to Jesse. "Just remember that when he is ready^Å"

"Yeah, I know." Jesse said as he swore to himself that he would be sure that Adam would never be that ready. Especially not for what Clay had in mind.

He took the comic and looked it over. It was a near mint UNCANNY X-MEN # 94. One of the very few that Jesse needed to finish his run of the series to date. The price sticker read $65.00. Jesse nodded approval. "I'll make a point to come by Monday after school."

"Excellent." Clay said. He smiled. "You better get on back there to your little boyfriend before he gets jealous."

"Don't be vulgar, Clay. It is really not funny." Jesse said as he slipped the comic into a brown bag along with the paperback book Francine had given him and walked to the back of the store to join Adam.

He didn't like Clay Harris as he did when they had first met. They were able to do things for each other and it had developed into a profitable arrangement for Jesse so he had kept coming back. Now, he felt, would be a good time to start putting an end to the arrangement. He thought about the very special comic he held. Soon, not yet, but very soon things were going to have to change.

When the three of them were back in the car Francine turned the ignition and listened as the engine purred to life; she really loved her Volvo station wagon. The car she had been driving before Harry died had ended up being the car he died in. She had used the insurance money and his Buick as a trade for the Volvo.

"I think that guy is a little creepy." Adam said as he flipped through the bag of comics on his lap.

"You seemed to like him Wednesday." Francine reminded him.

"Yeah, I know. I just don't think I like the way he looks at me, or Jesse either for that matter. I wonder if he's some kind of freak or something." He placed the bag carefully on the floorboard in front of him and leaned against the seat.

"Clay's okay. You just have to get use to him." Jesse said quickly. He kicked himself for standing up for the guy. The less Adam thought of him the better Jesse would feel about keeping them apart.

"He did seem to like you boys a lot. He didn't even look at me." Francine said with a note of humor in her voice. She wanted to lighten the mood but she also wondered what kind of person the comic book store guy actually was. The last person she wanted in Adam's life was some pedophile. The relationship between Adam and Jesse was okay but she was suddenly uncomfortable with the idea of other people that Adam may become involved with.

Francine pulled into the parking lot of the drug store. "I'll be back in a minute, you boys want to come in or stay?"

"Stay." Adam said.

Jesse took the hint and said he would wait with Adam. "What are you thinking about?"

"You." Adam paused, looked to his friend sitting beside him on the back seat.

"What about me?" Jesse said. He wondered if he had messed things up between them some how.

"Why did he give you that comic?" Adam nodded at the brown bag lying on the seat between them.

"I finished paying off the lay away."

"Uh-uh. If you had been paying it off it wouldn't have still been on display. I watched him take it out of the case and hand it to you. Why?" Adam was angry with Jesse and he wasn't exactly sure why.

"Adam, it's a long story. Can we drop it until we can be alone?" Jesse said, hoping to put the discussion off, maybe even get Adam to forget about it entirely.

"Jesse, we are alone."

"Okay^Å. here goes everything" Jesse began his tale.

Inside the pharmacy, Francine picked up a box containing one 24-ounce tube of K-Y Jelly, the only lubricant she knew of that was easily accessible. She looked at the box and wondered if buying lube and condoms for the boys was a good idea. Was she being too accepting of their relationship? Her friends online had encouraged her that this was the right thing to do. That if the boys were going to graduate to anal sex then they would at least be prepared and not hurt each other by doing it without proper precautions.

She placed the box in her basket and looked at the multiple varieties of condoms on display. She wondered which would be the best for this type of situation.

"Can I help you?" A young man said beside her. His voice was soft, almost feminine. He wore the blue smock with the name of the store embroidered over the nametag which told the customer his name was TONY.

"I'm buying a gift for my son and his boy^Å" She stopped. She hadn't meant to say that.

"His boyfriend?" The young man asked.

"Yes. My son has just recently, well. Started experimenting."

"I see. How old are the boys?" He asked. "I began, experimenting when I was thirteen so I know what you are worried about." He reached over and pulled a pack of Lifestyles un-lubricated condoms from the display.

"Adam, my son, is fourteen and his boyfriend is fifteen. I think Jesse is fifteen anyway." She bit her lip in a move very much like that of her son.

"These will do just fine. There are six here so that should keep them for a while unless they really get into it." He said with a smile. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me." His brown hair came down over one brown eye.

Francine noticed that has was a rather attractive young man, not six feet tall, but close. He had several earrings along the lobe of each ear and a ring through one eyebrow. He was actually very pretty, almost too much so to be a boy.

"How old are you?" Francine asked the question that kept running through her mind.

"I just turned seventeen last month." He said with a smile.

"I see. Well, happy late birthday. And thanks for your help as well." She smiled and headed back up to the counter. She had picked up the make up for herself and the supplies for the boys.

"That's pretty much it babe." Jesse finished. "He just asked me outright one day and I thought about it and agreed to his plan." He didn't go into the darker side of the agreement. He was sure Adam would really not be pleased about that aspect.

"I don't like it. Do you really have to go back and be with him again?"

"One last time, I swear baby." Jesse said. He meant it to. He would do what Clay wanted one more time and he was through. If it meant never going in that store again, fine.

"Shit, here comes mom." Adam said as he nodded forward.

"We'll talk about it more later."

"I'd rather just not think about it okay?" Adam said. He was very unhappy and thinking about that guy touching Jesse bothered him more than he could express.

"Okay, boys. Off to the video store." Francine placed the bag on the passenger seat along with her purse.

When they returned to the Conner house all three exited the car with their packages and walked up to the front door in silence.

Adam couldn't stop thinking about what Jesse had told him about the guy at the comic book store and what they did together. He wanted Jesse to return the X-MEN comic and tell the guy he was thorough with all of that. Wanted him to tell Clay that he had a boyfriend now.

The only thing Jesse could think about was Clay, and how his "relationship" with the guy could very well ruin his new love with Adam. Adam had

expressed in clear enough terms that he wouldn't be involved or approve of the arrangement between Jesse and the comic book store guy. Without actually making it a demand or a provision of his being with Adam that Jesse had to end the deal with Clay.

Jesse had been planning to call it quits with Clay anyway. The arrangement had run it's course Jesse didn't like the ever increasing demands, finding the return from the other end to be less than appropriate considering what he had to do. He just didn't know how he was going to put his foot down and end it. The thought of never entering the store again after he told Clay it was over was pretty much a given. Of course, he could just never go back and not have to face Clay again, ever. That idea didn't sit well with him because it was an easy out, a coward's way to do things.

Francine walked through the door, making her way through the kitchen and into the little sitting room that was more of a sun porch. She placed the pharmacy bag on the glass table top and sat down facing the back yard. She knew she had to talk with the boys before it was too late. If they were going to take their sexual experimentation to the next level it would be tonight that they would be bound to do it. She had been getting the vibe from Jesse all day. Adam she couldn't read as well. There was something in him holding back, not relinquishing himself fully to what was happening. She wondered if she could be wrong about them going further together. Maybe giving them these items would encourage their advancement

rather than just help was already building.

Leaving the package on the table in the sunroom, she walked back through the kitchen to the foot of the stairs. She took a deep breath and let it out.

In Adam's room the boys were sitting beside each other on the bed not speaking but looking into each other's eyes. The comics lay in their separate bags on the floor beside their feet.

"Boys! Can you please come down here? I need to have a word with both of you." There, she thought. The words were out so she had no choice but to follow through. Francine just prayed that she really was doing the right thing.

Jesse took in a deep breath and held it before letting it out. He looked at the bedroom door, then at Adam. Each glance made him love the boy even more.

Adam looked at him, frightened. "She knows." He was chewing at his bottom lip again. He hoped it wouldn't go to bleeding like it had in the past but then right at that moment, he had other worries than a bloody lip.

The boys stood up faced each other and hugged, kissing each other's lips lightly and pulling away. They held hands tightly and went to the door.

Adam opened it and Jesse led him out and down the steps.

Jesse let go of Adam's hand before they reached the level that Francine would be able to see what they were doing and they continued down to whatever awaited them.
