Chapter 2--Hotel Tango
The ride to the hotel was quiet. Neither Tom nor Chris spoke. Tom had his hand on Chris's knee, which Tom liked. The driver, while not surly, was non-communicative after getting the address, but he was efficient and knew the town. Twenty minutes later car pulled up to a small, older hotel that was obviously well loved.
It had the deco charm of the 20's or 30's--a simple brick facade with an ornate concrete entrance. A tasteful sign in gold script hung over the door, Aurora Hotel. Might this be my dawn, thought Chris. A doorman, in a bright blue jacket and pants, let Tom and Chris in. The lobby was pleasantly furnished with overstuffed chairs abutting tables with what looked like Tiffany lamps. The art work, while modern, added to the comfort of the room; the art was original and not generic non-offensive hotel mass produced. The front desk was flame mahogany with simple twenty's student lamps for completing the paperwork. A small restaurant off to one side of the lobby was set with white tablecloths and gleaming silverware. While Chris had been to hotels before, mostly La Quinta and Best Western, he was surprised at how comfortable and welcome this hotel was; he wanted to look at everything, examine it. If he ever had a house, this was what he would want for the living room--masculine comfort.
Chris idly glanced at Tom, who stood relaxed at the front desk with a menu in his hand. Chris had a quick thought that Tom wanted to fatten him up before the kill. Then he heard Tom. "Can you bring a bottle of this up to my room with two glasses. And I need a wake-up call for 7:00 AM. Thanks."
"Certainly, Mr. Greenwood," the perky young desk clerk replied.
Ah,Tom has a last name--Greenwood--nice--English origin? thought Chris. Nice ass. What the fuck am I doing. I don't do hotels. I'm a back-alley cat, sprawling over car fronts seat giving blow jobs. But he is so hot, and nice, and very hot. Ah shit, he just turned and smiled. Chris quickly averted his gaze from Tom. Here I am with this hot shot model, who could be staying in the fanciest hotel in town, but no he stays in this quaint homey hotel. No pretense here--simple colors, deco design, tasteful. I hope that is Tom too.
"Come," said Tom with a very broad smile that made the dimmed lobby blossom into a bright green forest. "Let's get to my room." Tom smiled again. "The elevator is down this hall. It's a little funky. But I like funky, if you have not already guessed"
"Are saying that I am funky?" Chris lightly teasing Tom. It felt right, like a comfortable shoe, over washed jeans, and a tattered T.
Tom smiled." Yes, you are funky. Funky is not expected, charming, solid and in your case a little ripe."
"So now I stink, I should be very offended and march off in high pique." Chris bristled, although he knew he had not truly bathed in a few days. Washing in the library restrooms had limitations. Tom smiled. It contained both humor and confidence. Chris wondered if Tom had every had serious disappointments in life. "Yeah, I am a little ripe, but I still take offense at funky--gorgeous, sexy, desirable, worth ripping clothes off, but funky, com'on dude." Chris winced as he said "dude"; his mother taught him it was unladylike like to use street slang. Using it had its liberating value, but it was over used.
"I did not want to state the obvious, dude," Tom smiled while emphasizing the word `dude'. It was a smile that was open, honest, seductive, and secretive. It was a smile the camera loved and sold underwear. "Here's the elevator." Tom pushed the up button to the side of the brass deco elevator doors. Soon they opened to a dark mahogany interior lit by wall sconces on each side of the door. An accordion gate blocked the entrance, which Tom slide aside and then stepped aside to allow Chris to enter first. "I always stay here when I am in Chicago," stated Tom as he put Chris's hand in his. "I like places that want to preserve the past. I have always had a connection with the past. I like that they even kept the old lever control for the elevator. During the day, they even have an elevator operator." The elevator door opened and Tom pulled, gently, Chris to his left and down a hall of dark green carpet and walls covered in post-impressionist paintings. Chris wanted to stop and look at the artwork, but Tom firmly tugged him along. Tom stopped and looked at Chris. "This is your last chance to back out. Beyond this door, I ravish you."
Chris looked up at Tom and turned to leave. Tom grabbed Chris's arm and pulled him back. Chris burst into laughter. "You will not be the only one doing the ravishing." Chris like the tease from Tom. "if you are so cocky, dude." Chris grinned. "Lead on."
Tom slipped in the key card and placed his index finger in a small depression next to the key card. "Old charm, modern security." Tom kissed Chris as the door to the room swung open to tasteful elegance, a new world for Chris. It reminded Chris of one of the Fred Astaire movies he had seen as a kid, but this was a color version. The carpet was an intricate maze of tree branches, leaves and acorns anchored by overstuffed chairs and a sofa in front of a fireplace. Chris expected to hear Gershwin or see Cole Porter by the piano. God there even was a grand piano in the room. "Do you play?" Chris pointed to the piano.
"Yeah, when I can. You?"
"Yeah, but it has been a few years."
"Knowing this place, there is likely sheet music in the bench." Tom looked a Chris and smiled as if he knew the loss the Chris was feeling. "We cannot change the past nor should we weep to long over what was because we still have now and the sun will come out tomorrow."
"O come on man, Anne." Chris laughed and then Tom laughed.
"I know trite, bit still true." Tom went over to the fireplace and pushed a button and the fire came to life. Oranges, reds and yellows tinged the carpet and the furniture. "The bedroom is down that there, and the bathroom is on the left." As Chris went off to the bedroom, Tom went around the room adjusting the drapes opening the French doors to the small balcony, since the night was fresh and the fire warm. "Holy shit" Tom heard from the bedroom. "This bed is massive." "All the more space to chase you around." Tom yelled back. "Holy fucking shit" Chris again. "I see you found the bathroom" Tom yelled as he headed for the bedroom.
Tom walked into the bathroom and saw Chris basking in the flow of water from the three jets and a handheld lavaged his backside. Tom was tempted to step in, clothes and all, but he wanted Chris to enjoy this moment to himself. Chris turned and smiled. Tom walked into the closet and removed his clothes. "Chris when you're done I want to shower too." Tom walked into the bathroom with Chris wrapped in a towel using another to dry his hair. Chris caught Tom's reflection in the mirror and gasped. Tom was smooth--chest, abs, balls, except for dark brown curls lying like a blanket above his manhood.
"You're all shaved" Chris blurted out, "not that I don't like it" he quickly added not turning from the mirror.
"Professional requirements," Tom grinned. "Even this" Tom tugged the tuft of hair above his penis, causing it to shake. "Some clients want a few pubes showing above the underwear." Chris laughed and tried not to stare. Tom slid into the shower. He yelled out "There's robes in the closet to your right and toothpaste and stuff on the vanity."
Tom stepped from the shower, water hanging from him like crystals. He must be very comfortable being nude, thought Chris as Tom dried himself as if no one else was around. Chris only once caught Tom looking at himself in the mirror and that was only to check if his back was fully dry. This is good, not conceited about his looks.
"Finish up in here, and I see you in the living area." Tom said, as he pulled out a robe and left the bathroom. "Be there in a bit, want to brush my teeth one more time," Chris responded.
"This is so plush," Chris said as he walked into the living area. Tom was lounging on the sofa by the fireplace. Feeling bold, Chris joined him curling alongside. Tom pulled him closer into his side. "This is so nice." Chris whispered because it felt so right that he did not want to wake. "For me too" whispered Tom. The moment was broken by a knock on the door. "Must be room service."
Tom opened the door. "Good evening sir, room service here with your wine and cheese tray," came a very cheerful voice from a young man maybe sixteen or seventeen. His voice faltered when he glanced up at Tom. Tom smiled. "I'm Zack." He quickly recovered. "Where would you like me to put this, sir." "By the sofa, please." The young man looked up and saw Chris lounging like an odalisque on the sofa, and his became a shit-eating grin. "My pleasure sir." He wheeled the cart over. Looking at Chris and quickly at Tom. "Are you in town for business or pleasure?"
"As you can see, Zack," Tom smiled, "Right know it is pleasure" Tom smiled at Chris and then at Zack. "Tomorrow business, which I hope I can convince my companion to join." Zack looked at Chris, reassessing his opinion of him as a high-class escort.
"Would you like me to pop the cork." Zack flushed at the unintended double entendre.
Tom smiled and looked at Chris. "I think I can pop my own cork if my companion holds the bottle near the head." Zack turned redder. Tom walked Zack to the door.
Zack hesitated and then said, "If there is anything else." He looked back and forth between Chris and Tom. "Anything else, dial seven on the phone. I am the only one on duty tonight, so you would get me to service you." Zack blushed again and added, "It's not busy tonight, so I got free time." Tom smiled and slipped a twenty into his hand. "I thank you for your attentiveness." Tom glanced quickly at the tent in Zack's pants. "But as you can see..." Tom looked at Chris and smiles. "I will be occupied all night." Zack looked at Chris and flushed. "I understand." But then quickly added before hope died, "If you need a third"
"Thank you Zack. It is a very tempting offer." Tom leaned in close to Zack's ear, "This is also business. I want to fuck him until he cannot refuse my business proposition." He gave Zack a quick peck on the check and shut the door. Tom broke out into laughter. "Sixteen and hormones."
"You can be sure he's jacking off in the nearest restroom," added Chris. Chris looked at Tom, studying his eyes. "Did you want him to join us?" Chris was uncertain about Tom's sexual habits and did not want to deny him since he had been so kind. "Did you?" Tom asked also uncertain about Chris's desires. "No, not that he was objectionable, but I saw the kiss and the twenty." Chris looked at Tom, with resignation and uncertainty in his eyes. "I am only here for the night. And you have been so nice to me. And I don't know your preferences. And thirds are...and I don't mind sharing because I will have some of you." Chris faltered to a stop. Lost.
"I do not want to share you with anyone. Not tonight and not tomorrow night and not until you decide what you want. I want to take it slow." Tom came over to Chris and curled in next to him on the sofa.
"Take me into the bedroom and fuck me silly."
"No," said Tom. Chris looked confused. "First, I am going to seduce you and then make love to you. How about some wine and cheese and crackers?" Tom stood, pulled the cork on the wine, and poured. He slipped two strawberries into the wine and handed on glass to Chris. "To passion and love."
Chris said, "To tomorrows, whatever those may be." And he raised his glass to Chris. They spent an untold time sipping wine, talking, nibbling cheese and fruit and each other and then slipping off to the bedroom.
The night softened into its deepest folds. In the silence of the sleeping, only Tom slept. The slow distant spirant sounds of the street called to Chris. That was his home, his life. Here was a dream, a soft cocoon that could not be his. Chris slipped out of bed and quietly dressed. He knew that he was leaving his heart behind as he looked at Tom splayed across the bed, covers pulled off, a naked god of summer, a cornucopia of delights. What was Chris but a street urchin, disposed and tainted between a body he hated and a body he could never have; caught between possible love and survival. Tom rolled in his sleep feeling for Chris, mumbling in his sleep "Chris?" Crying, Chris undressed and slipped back into bed. Tom threw an arm around Chris and pulled closer. Chris abraded himself for the weakness, but also reminded himself he could leave in the morning.
Dawn rose through a small slit in the closed drapes hitting Chris in the eye. Dawn rose with Chris in a bed and not on the streets. With Chris between clean scented sheets and a tender night, Tom was gentle, thoughtful, cautious as was the sex. But when a dawn rises, Chris knew too well, so follows the day with bright sun and angled shadows: reality's return. Chris pulled himself from the bed, ran a gentle hand across the sheets. And smiled at the rumpled pillow where Tom had slept. Chris's smile turned to a frown at the possibility that Tom would offer him cash for his services. Some men like trannies; they found it kinky. Was Tom such a one? Chris did not think so from the night's activities. The intimacy was personal not just physical. It was not just a guy getting his rocks off. Did Tom think he was with him just for money. He tried not to whore himself, but he did. That is the only way he could survive on the street. That and panhandling, which was usually enough. Chris paused in front of the dresser mirror and did not like what he saw--skinny, scraggly, abomination. Use the toothbrush, shower, kiss Tom once and leave quick.
Tom had just stepped out of the shower; Chris slunk at the sink brushing his teeth. "The surgeon did an excellent job on your chest. Just a little scaring around the nipples. And I like how sensitive they are."
Chris stopped brushing and looked at himself in the mirror. "It is a start. I don't have a great chest like you, but at least I am rid of those obscene tits. They never felt part of my, more like cancerous growths." Chris shivered and ran a delicate hand over his left areola. "Next month I start hormone treatment and in a year I can get a dick. And be rid of this offensive orifice." His slide his hand to his vagina. "Then maybe I can top. Not that I object to bottoming." He smiled at Tom. Tom squeezed Chris's firm butt as Chris slid around Tom into the shower.
"Heh, you, old sod, get your skinny arse in here." Came a loud voice from the living area.
Tom walked unconsciously naked into the living area. "Cedrick, old man, what are you doing here?"
"This is my hotel, and I am making the rounds," he replied. "I might ask you the same."
"Got a gig in town for the next couple of days, so I always try to stay at your properties. How are the wife and kids?" Tom motioned Cedrick to sit in one of the easy chairs by the open French doors. "I bet they have really grown. How long has it been--two, three years?"
"Almost three. The oldest kid is ten and Daniel is eight. Terrence is just starting to notice girls--they're gross. God help Ariel and me in three years." Chris came from the bathroom, with a robe tight about himself, and stood at the door between the living area and the bedroom, his hair still damp from the shower. Cedrick looked up at Chris and smiled. "Who is this divine creature," Cedrick said to Tom while looking at Chris. "I must say your tastes have definitely improved." Cedrick had a broad and welcoming smile for Chris.
Tom waved Chris to join them. Cedrick stood as Chris came over and extended a hand, which Chris shook with caution. Old lover, past boyfriend, current lover passed through Chris's mind. Chris looked Cedrick over. Cedrick was almost as handsome as Tom: a little shorter and a little older, but still drop dead.
Tom tugged on Chris's elbow as he led him to a chair next to him. They all sat down and Tom place a proprietary hand on Chris's knee. "This is my cousin. He owns this dump (Cedrick scowled) and several other through the world. When I travel, I try to stay at any of his properties because you can't do better."
"Damn straight," Cedrick said.
"You are English?" Chris asked.
"Yes, cheerio and all that rot." Cedrick smiled.
"I'm English too," added Tom. Chris looked at Tom confused. "My dad's English, mum's American. He was born in England, I was born here. And relatives both places. Citizenship both" Chris nodded in understanding.
"Are you going to the big party tonight at Chad's?" Cedrick asked.
"Of course, would not miss it. He always has a big blow out. Any theme?"
"Formal casual, if you can figure out what that means."
"Tuxes and T-shirt? I'll ask some of the guys at the store I am working for right now. That bunch of queens will know." Chris looked at Tom, with a weak smile knowing that soon he would be back on the street. Tom looked at Cedrick. "I'm bring Chris as my date."
Cedrick eyes widened and smiled. "That is a marvelous idea. It will prevent Chad from trying to dragging you off to a corner for a little snogging."
"Do you have any plans for tonight Chris?" Tom asked.
Chris looked perplexed and embarrassed. He felt trapped between wanting more time with Tom but facing a social setting. He nodded weakly, afraid to voice obvious concerns with a guest present.
"Great, Chris is my date tonight. If you want to finish in the bathroom, Chris, I and Cheddar..." Cedrick broke in "I hate that name Tommy and you know it." Tom smirked, "As a baby he excessive gas and the nickname stuck." Tom laughed. "Go finish as I Cedrick will chat and catch up of family gossip."
Chris stood and shook Cedrick's hand, "A pleasure meeting you sir" and then left. One night with Tom and already meeting family and social engagements with friends. This was going too fast. He was confused but he did not want it to stop.
Cedrick looked at Tom and smiled, "Chris is a pretty man. How long have you known him cuz?"
"About twelve hours." Tom grinned.
"My god, you finally have a long-term relationship." Cedrick quipped. "Where did you meet?"
"In an alley."
"Might have expected. Homeless?"
"Yes."
"Is he a foundling for you or other?"
"He is definitely other, in many ways."
"And you are going to take him into the feeding frenzy that is Chad's?"
"Yep."
"Is that fair to him?"
"Perhaps not, but I do not want to lose him to the street. I think he may be special to me. You know how I am about being in the right place at the right time."
"Grandma's gift."
"Yeh. Last night I was in the right place. We went and had supper and came back here. He is sensitive and thoughtful in bed. He is sensitive and thoughtful as a person. He might become special to me."
"Are you sure he is not just one of your charity cases."
"I don't know, but I don't think so. He was very successful on the street." Cedrick cocked his head. "He has not succumbed to the despair of the streets. He is not jaded, bitter, or pessimistic. Despite the fact that his parents kicked him out of the house because he wanted to be a boy, he is not hateful."
"Transgender, that explains the other. How far along?"
"Half way. About another year. But there is something else that is just special about him. A hint of the forest, solid as oak, as flexible as willow, as fresh as morning sunshine. I think I could love him."
"Well, Tom, I am very happy for you. Do you want me to hint to the family that you are now taken? I know it will stop the nagging."
"Not yet. I will be here a couple more days. Let's let the newness germinate and see how it grows. When do you leave?"
"I'm here for a few days. I'm talking to investors for a China project. Do you want in?"
"I don't have the kind of money that you usually require."
"I could give you a small percentage. You could be the face of the hotel?"
"How about Chris as the face and I just invest a little--one percent?"
"He does have an anime look. I'll think on it. Why don't we meet tomorrow night for supper--7ish?"
"That sounds like a plan. Also, could you arrange for a tailor to be here about 5:00? We need to shop for Chris cloths for tonight."
"If he is the one, sure. See you tonight Tom." Cedrick rose and walked to the door and yelled. "See you tonight Chris."
At the door, Tom stopped Cedrick, "You know the room service guy here, Zack?" Cedrick shook his head no. "Well, he is a charmer. He is management material."
"Blimy, he put a move on you." Cedrick laughed as Tom affirmed. "I think I will talk to him tomorrow morning. Thanks for the insight." He gave Tom a full kiss with tongue and winked at Chris in the bedroom door and left.
"Very friendly for a cousin. Have you every?" Chris asked with hands folded across his chest and fire in his eyes.
"Aren't you a little possessive?" Tom chided. Chris stiffed and huffed unsure why he objected to the kiss. "And no, we have not. He was just yanking your chain."
Chris walked over and gave Tom a kiss that could have blown a mountain apart. Tom looked at Chris stunned and then returned the kiss. They both backed away from each other, embarrassed by the intensity. Chris looked down at himself. His jeans were ripped and frayed. The T-shirt grungy and smelled of several days sweat. "I can't go tonight. I think I should leave and return to my place."
"What? You are not leaving." Tom was angry and his eyes leveled into Chris. "You are coming with me tonight. This is not open to discussion." He grabbed Chris's hand and held firm until Chris winced in pain. "After I dress, we're going shopping." With that, Tom dragged Chris to the bedroom.
