From Chapter 5:
"Close your eyes again." He did. I put my arms around him again, and he hungrily grabbed me back. "Luke, I am your dad again. Tell me you love me.
Say, dad, I love you."
"Dad, I - I - Sob! - love you!" His voice broke.
"Dad, I know you love me." I whispered in his ear.
"Dad, I - I - Sob! - sigh - know you love me." He then started crying anew.
"Dad," I said, "I forgive you."
"Dad, I forgi - forgi - forgi - ao-ou ugh! I FORGIVE YOU DAD!" He screamed it to get it out, then fell on my neck in tears again.
"And I love you, Luker!" I said.
He opened his eyes and stared into my eyes, hardly blinking, drained of energy. I sat him down on the sand. We watched the surfers in silence, from the mouth of the cave. Finally after an interminable time he turned to me. "That was - sigh - amazing!"
"How do you feel?" I asked.
"Drained - but somehow clean. Peaceful - like I can't remember feeling before."
"I works, Luker! It worked for me. It worked for Chris and Craig. They both returned to the woods where Rob did it for us, and repeated it for themselves. I didn't feel I needed to. But just now, I noticed I feel better now myself. So if you need to do it again, you can. It helps to have another guy there to hold on to."
"Wow!" he said again.
Chapter 6
We shook out the blanket and spread it again over the sand in the cave. It was starting to get hot out there, but in the cave it was still plenty cool.
We lay down on the blanket, and we were each just kind of in his own daydream, kind of hungrily looking at each other, but each too shy to make the first move, with the surfers so close in the estuary.
"Hello."
Both of us jumped. If he was imagining or thinking the same as I was - well, I KNOW why I jumped!
"I'm sorry!" He said. "I couldn't help hearing - well, listening - to you guys the last hour or so."
"What?" Luke said. "How could you just - what were you thinking?!"
"I said I was sorry. And I wasn't just talking about scaring you. I really feel scummy about staying and listening." He was standing in the shadow, with the light of the sun behind him, so it was hard to see him. He obviously was nicely built, rather short (hah! Who am I to talk?).
"Well, you should be sorry!" Luke said. "Obviously what we were doing was -"
"Luke," I interrupted. "Lighten up a little. This is a public place and we were making quite a noise."
"It's okay. I - I'll just go."
"No, wait!" I said, Luke looking at me as if I were crazy. Come here, kid. He definitely had the voice of a very young adolescent.
"I - I gotta get back. My brother" -
"Okay, now you need to lighten up a little!" I said. "Unless you are afraid of us, your brother has waited for the last hour or so, so he can wait another two minutes, okay?"
"I - well - I guess." He looked out at the surfers, then stepped a little closer. As he got closer, I felt a certain familiarity with him. I don't know why - or at least I didn't.
"My name's Seth Gary. This is my - my friend, Luke."
"Hey! I'm Charlie. Wow!" The kid said, staring at Luke.
"What?" Luke said.
"Wow! From over there, I thought you - were - that you were --- black! But you're not. I've never seen such an awesome tan! My brother gets browner than I do. He's always out there surfing. But - nothing like you!"
Luke looked at me. "Boy this kid's got balls!" He said.
Charlie immediately looked down at his package.
"Hee hee! He meant you have a lot of nerve for a little kid."
"I'm 12!"
"Well then, Charlie," I said, "you are really rather large for your age aren't you!" He looked pleased that I "noticed".
The entrance to the cave suddenly darkened. "Charlie! Where the hell have you b -" He stopped as suddenly as he started. "Oh! Hello! I'm sorry if my little brother was bothering you. He's just a kid and -"
"I'm twelve!"
"Yeah, well, I'm sixteen and as much as I hate it, I have to watch out for you! You just can't be bothering a couple who want some privacy enough to come down here!" He got a little closer to us. "Oh! Sorry! I guess you're not a couple - er - well maybe - I'm sorry!"
"He's right Charlie." I said. "And it could be dangerous to just trust anybody - especially alone, in a cave like this. Hi, I'm Seth Gary and this is my - friend - Luke." As the older boy got closer, I could see he had a well-defined body. He had on baggy surfer shorts, and even though he was still quite wet, it was hard to tell - with the sunlight behind him - what else may be well-defined.
"I'm Fred."
"Hi Fred. And in answer to your other question, yes we are somewhat of a couple. Wow! Fred, huh? Don't hear that name very often."
"It's my dad's name. It's the only fuckin' thing he ever gave me!" he said bitterly.
Wow! Talk about too much information!
"Well, Fred's a cool name! I like Freddie even better!"
"Really?" he said. "I used to be called Freddie all the time, but I decided it sounded too lame."
"Naw! It's cool!" I said.
"Oh. Thanks. Well, We better be going, Charlie."
"What's your hurry?" I said. Luke still looked like he thought I was completely crazy!
"I - I don't think" Fred started, "that my parents would think it was cool for us - I mean Charlie to be talking to a couple of older men."
I snickered at that!
"What?" Fred said.
Finally Luke spoke up. "Heh, I think it must be the first time that Seth was called an `older man!' Me too! Seth is only -" I shot him "the look" "Seth is 18 and I am actually a lot older - 22! I have never gotten into a bar without a thorough examination of my I.D."
"Well, anyway," I added, "You ARE with your brother now so there isn't any danger. Right?"
"Well - I guess not." He said and he relaxed a little.
"Sit down for a minute. My neck is getting sore from looking up." They both sat. Now I want to tell you something. I got up and headed for the mouth of the cave.
"Hey where are you going? We just sat down!"
"Follow me. I went out in the direction Fred came in. I saw his surfboard on the short beach by the cave. I stuck my head back in the cave. "You comin?" The other three followed me out. I lead them to some large rocks. "I wanted to tell you something - out of the cave so you wouldn't be spooked. Sit. We each found a rock. Fred, look at Luke." He looked at Luke, almost too admiringly.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think if he wanted to take you, that you could do anything about it?"
Fred started to get up. "C'mon Char -"
"FREDDIE! SIT!" He looked scared now, but he complied.
"Fred, first of all you have no reason to be scared. No one would dare do anything to you with so many of your friends so close." I said, indicating all the surfers, a few of whom were very close to the shore. So just sit and listen. I brought you out here so I could talk to you and it would NOT be as threatening as in the cave. I want to tell you a story."
"Look, Seth, we don't have time for"
"It won't take long, Fred." Almost a year ago, when I was still seventeen, I let myself fall into - this was really stupid of me, but - like you, I was one, trusting, and two, curious." I had his attention. "I was very lucky!"
I told him about the two scumbags that almost killed me. "- - and they really looked scummy! Do we look scummy?" I asked Fred.
"N - no."
"Well, I hope not!" I laughed. "We're going back into our cave now, but one more thing: just because we don't look scummy doesn't mean you should not have RUN when I ordered you to sit! You take care of your little brother!" I got up and walked away, toward the cave. I looked back and the other three looked dumbfounded. I stopped and finally Luke got down and trailed after me. "See you guys later!" I hollered, not realizing that we would.
I lead Luke back into the cave. "So whataya think?" I asked him.
"You really do amaze me! Your experience in Vermont must have had a very maturing effect on you."
"I think it did. I worry about kids like them. I never used to, and maybe because of my experience, I am kind of paranoid, but - I like to think that maybe I just could have saved a kid from - well something bad."
"I thought you were wiggin' on me at first, I have to admit!"
We entered the cave. It was so dark inside that if we WERE bad guys, and with the sound of the surf, those kids could have been dead - or something almost as bad. I also realized that when I grabbed Luke and kissed him, no one outside the cave could see it! He squirmed at first, and could have broken loose if he wanted, but he then realized that if for some reason I didn't care, he surely didn't! He kissed me back, and I almost swallowed his tongue. We pulled our blanket further up into the cave and lay down and cuddled on the blanket, on the sand. It was cold up higher in the cave, so it felt great to rub our warm bodies together. The estuary was really not a good place to body surf, so after we were through making out, we grabbed our lunch and our blanket and went back out and over the levee to the real beach. We played and surfed in the water for awhile, and then came out and ate our lunch.
"That's one thing that could never happen in Hawaii!"
"What"
"You could not just leave your lunch, especially in a chest, and go swimming. Someone would just assume they needed the food AND the ice chest more than you! Look at all the boom boxes and radios just laying here, ready to be taken, nobody watching them!"
"Well, I think plenty get stolen, but this beach is a pretty exclusive crowd. Wait until you see the parking lot when we leave. Believe me, my car will look out of place! And if something gets stolen, they just buy another! But these people don't bother with something as simple as lunch!"
We ate lunch, laid out in the sun for a while then went back in to cool off and wash off some of the sand before we headed for home. When we got to the parking lot, I was proven right. A lot of Corvettes, And custom `Stang 5.0 convertibles. A lot more Acura's and Lexus's. And the SUV's? A lot of them were Escalades and Navigators! We humbly got into my little 1968 Datsun 4 door heap-mobile, and I started up Pacific coast highway.
We were coming to the very first stoplight coming into Newport Beach, when the traffic got really bad. It was always pretty busy here, but this was hardly moving. As we got closer, we could see that a vintage Mercedes 190SL sport convertible, top down, was smashed against a bridge rail, and further forward was an old Chevy Suburban pulled over. There was a broken surfboard in front of the 109SL, probably thrown out during the crash. As we were passing by, I caught the eye of - no, it couldn't be! Fred was standing, talking to a policeman, and he was crying. I pulled over and we got out and walked back.
"Where's Charlie?" I asked.
"Who are these guys?" the policeman asked.
"Friends." Fred said.
"Do they live near you?" The officer asked. I was standing behind the cop.
I was shaking my head, YES!
"Yes?" It was said like a question.
"Well, do they or don't they?"
"Pretty close", I said. I took a chance. I noticed that the license plate holder said Norwalk. "You guys are from Norwalk, aren't you?
"La Mirada," Fred said.
"Close enough!" the officer said. "Could you give these boys a ride home?"
"Sure officer, if it would help."
"Can I see some I.D.?"
I showed him my license. He was eyeing Luke. "Luke is my friend from Hawaii."
When we were finished with the officer, Fred was on the phone" --- Mom! They are just friends! We will be home as soon as the cop - er - officer makes out the report. No, it WASN'T my fault! Please, PLEASE try to convince Jim! PLEASE!" His eyes were filled with tears. "Okay, Mom. I will. Bye. Mom! Bye, mom!" And he pressed the end button. "Thank you!" he said to a man as he handed back the cell phone.
"Well, were done here!" The officer said. You boys drive carefully."
"Who -" Luke started. I shot him a no look. "Where shall we eat?"
"We'll find a place on the way home." I said.
"Don't worry, son, your car will be towed home alright. As long as there is someone there to sign for it." The cop said. Fred nodded. He looked so disheartened - almost scared. We all four piled into my little Datsun.
"Uh, which is the best way?" I asked.
"I usually take Beach Boulevard to the Santa Ana Freeway, then Valley View, and north."
"Are you shittin' me" I exclaimed! "Er - sorry - are you kidding me? How close to the freeway do you live? I live just across the Freeway! - Well, it is more like across the tracks. Are you in the new development behind the old La Mirada?"
"Well, not too new. But yes it is just across the freeway from - is that Cerritos there?"
"Yup!"
"Where we gonna eat - I'm starved!" Luke said.
When we were stopped at a light, in front of Snot's Fairy Barn (Oh, that was our name for Knotts Berry Farm), I picked up my cell phone and pressed "home". "Mom? We are going to be a little late. We are helping out a friend who got in a wreck and we were on the way past them. We're taking them home. No don't, Mom, we are stopping in a couple minutes to eat. Okay. Love you too! Bye."
"You must have a cool dad!" Fred said.
"Uh - that was my mom." I answered.
"Yeah, well, my dad - my STEP-dad, would not have let us stop - and Mom knows it!"
"Are you sure it's alright for us to stop?" I asked. "You wanna use my phone to call home?"
"No way! They'd just say no!"
"Is this good, Luker?" We were passing by a Taco Bell.
"Looks good to me!"
We pulled in and went in the Taco Bell. My car was not much, but I didn't like to eat in it.
"How much money do you have left, Haoli?"
I was checking my pockets, when Fred suddenly said, "No way! You aren't paying for anything! I got plenty that my mom threw at me and I want to buy you dinner!"
I got my favorite, a Mexican pizza, and a steak grilled burrito. We took our time eating. "You sure it's okay to spend so much time here?" I asked Fred.
"They don't know how long it took to get going." He answered. My dad's gonna be pissed no matter what. And it won't be because we are late. He completely restored that car for my mom. It was just reupholstered last week, the last thing to be done in the restoration.
"But your dad can't blame you" -
"You don't know my dad."
"It's my dad." Charlie was very quiet up until then. "Our mom - didn't do such a good job picking men. My dad, Fred's dad - both are meanie's! I hate it when he starts ragging on Freddie! I HATE it!"
"Charlie's right. I love my mom - we both do - but she is a weakling and - both our dads are selfish and mean."
"So, what will he do to you for - getting in an accident?" I asked.
"I'll tell you this much. He won't be as worried about us than the car. And he won't be worried about me as much as Charlie. Fuck! He won't even be worried about me - unless he thinks maybe it will cost him money to fix what ever is wrong with me! And believe me my own dad doesn't want to contribute anything to me!
"Wow!" I said.
"So you guys are gay, huh?"
"Oh, you noticed?"
"How - er - when did you know - you were - gay?"
"I just decided I was - well - at least more gay than not - about nine months ago." I said. "Luke is not my lover, though. We are - really just dating - sort of."
"Oh! Sorry!"
"That's okay. Why did you ask about being gay, anyway?"
"I don't know. Just curious, I guess."
"How corious? Do you think you might be?" I asked.
"Well, - I don't really - I don't date. I have never - been - with a girl, and I have no desire to, but -"
"I saw the way you were looking at Luke this morning, dude. And I don't blame you! But still, you should prolly at least try to date girls before you decide. You said you have never been with a girl - you didn't mention whether you had ever been with - a guy!"
"Well, only one." He said. He looked over at his brother.
"Yah! We've done some stuff a couple times."
"Yeah, well, that's cool enough I guess." I said. "But you, especially, Charlie, should not decide because you had some fun with your big brother, that you are gay! Most guys try it and very often it is with their brother the first time. It only makes sense."
"Really? Other guys have done that?" Asked Fred, wonder in his voice AND on his face. "God, I am so - we were both thinking we would probably go to hell for what we were doing, but - somehow it still happened - You mean a lot of guys do it?"
"Guys - and girls too - but probably not as much as guys - brothers." I explained. "It is as natural as eating, sleeping, peeing - or masturbating. That's where it usually starts!"
"Dude! Exactly!" Fred exclaimed. "Once Charlie was sure I was doing it - he told me he was, too, and we started doing it together!"
"Well, anyway," I continued, "I wouldn't let it bother me too much. But I also wouldn't not let it rule my life."
"Whaddaya mean?"
"You can get carried away with anything: drinking, smoking, drugs, masturbating, or playing sex with your brother. If you seem to be living for the next drink, the next smoke, the next wank or the next schtoop with your brother, then it is ruling your life!"
"We better be going, don't you think?" Luke reminded us.
"Yeah," I said, "You don't wanna get in any more trouble with your dad than necessary."
It was only about five minutes more to their house. We turned into their development and Fred got the clicker out of his pocket. The gate opened and we entered a wonderland. Huge homes with triple car garages, and luxury SUV's and sports cars in the driveways. Who knows what was hidden in the garage! He directed us to their street. Their house was at the very end of the street, and took up the whole end of the street. It was an English Tudor design, made of rock, with a thatch looking roof style. There was a Cadillac Escalante in the driveway, as well as a Sedan deVille.
"Dude!" I exclaimed, "Doesn't anyone park in their garages?"
"What's in your garage?" Fred said.
"Junk!" I said. "Oh. I just figured people who could afford a house like this -"
"Junk! That's what we have in our garage. Maybe more expensive junk, but - -Except for the spot reserved for that crappy little sprts car -another piece of shit - just junk!" And most of the others, too. And those whose driveways are clear? They probably have a shed out back or a storage unit with their junk."
"Wow!" I said. "So rich people really are pretty much the same."
"Yeah! Only they have more to argue over! My mom is an attorney, and she gets alimony from two husbands, plus child support."
"It thought you said your dad did not give you anything!"
"Hah! You think I see any of that? He doesn't even give me a birthday gift. And he knows my mom doesn't get me anything."
"Your kidding - nothing for your birthday?"
"Well, hardly. I know that when he turns sixteen, he will get almost any car he wants!" He was really passionate about this! "And that's okay with me! He's my little brother! But they could easily do the same for me - and they don't, because HE won't, and my mom is a weakling."
"Fred, can I ask you a personal question?"
"What?" He looked suspicious.
"Does your step-dad abuse you - physically or sexually?"
"Fuck no! And he better never - I would kill him if he did! He hates me! He wouldn't ever - no!"
"Well, maybe you should count yourself lucky at that!"
"Why?"
"There are two boys who live at my house. Their father - stepfather - regularly sexually used my friend, since he was about 12. He is sixteen now, and he caught his step-dad, screwing his little brother, who is twelve."
Both boys mouth fell open. Finally, Fred spoke. "That's sick! And they are our ages!"
"You got that right!" I said. "But it isn't that unusual!"
"I'd kill him!"
"That's easy to say, but when it starts at twelve, the twelve year old boy usually doesn't have that kind of resolve. He submits, just like Eh - my friend did. But when it came to his little brother, then it was too much. And his mom knew it was happening!"
"Shit! Well, I can understand that part. My mom doesn't give a shit about me. I'll tell you something. I may not kill him if he tried anything with me - but I'd make sure he never did it again - somehow! But if I ever caught him with my brother - I WOULD kill him! I mean - I do stuff with him - but - I don't force it on him. It was his idea! So your parents are taking care of your friend?"
"Yeah - and his brother."
"Man, you must have great parents! Mine would never do anything like - shit! They hardly take care of me! Dad - I call him that because he has been the one that I know the best - but he doesn't care if I ever come home. He treats me like shit, and Mom lets him get away with it. Yeah, I do know that part of it. I'm never going to be like that!"
(Where have I heard that before!) Just then a very well dressed man came out to the car. He was very polite. Asked us to come in for dinner. I told him we had already eaten. He said he hoped Freddie had paid for it. I said yes.
"Well, at least you could maybe come in for dessert. We have some fresh strawberry shortcake!"
I looked at Luke. He shrugged. Well I told my mom I didn't know how long it would be. "I - okay. I want to call my mom and let her know where I am."
"Why, dude! Your 18, aren't you?"
"FRED!" his step-dad yelled.
"It's okay" I said, "I feel like as long as I live there - as long as they let me, it doesn't matter if I was 35, it still is just common courtesy to not make her - them - wonder. They ARE my parents, and I suppose they will always worry. It's what they do, right?" I looked directly at the dad.
"Uh, yeah - right!" he said, almost under his breath. "Sit down and the boys mom will bring you some dessert."
We had our dessert and excused ourselves. I noticed neither boys had eaten any of theirs. "Dude! Can I have your number?" Fred asked me.
"We don't want to bother them any more!" the dad said, a little too fast and a little to adamantly.
"It's okay." I said. I wrote it down and handed it to Fred, and we headed out the door.
As soon as the door was closed, we heard the dad say, "GIVE ME THAT!"
"FUCK YOU! HE GAVE IT TO ME!"
"GIVE IT TO ME NOW OR I'LL- "
"SHHHhhh!"
We drove out the driveway. As soon as we got into the street, Luke said, "What was THAT about?"
"Well, obviously, his dad doesn't want him calling us. Totally weird."
"What?"
"Well you noticed that their dad was very polite and nice to us, and while we were there, both the boys were - I don't know - almost too perfect."
"They probably are expected to act that way in front of others. That's the way it was at my house!"
"Wow! You couldn't just be you, huh?"
"Not when there was company around. But my parents were not so stupid to start yelling at us as soon as someone was out the door. Actually, my dad is 6'-5" tall and 300 pounds. He didn't have to yell at us!"
I pulled my car up to the curb in front of our house, and we went in. It was no more than a mile and a half away. When we got in, my mom said, "Someone named Fred Just called. He said not to call back, and he would call again."
"I looked at Luke and grinned. "Guess Fred won!"
"Yeah," he said, "unless of course he didn't!" About then, the phone rang again."
"It's probably that boy, Seth. You get it!"
"Hello?"
"Is - is Seth there?"
"This is me. Hi! Is this - Charlie?" I said. It sounded too young to be Fred. "Is Fred okay?"
"This is Fred. I'm up in my room, I have to talk quiet so they don't hear." I heard a sob escape him.
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah."
I decided now was not a good time to question him. "What - well you called, so - what can I do for you?"
"I don't know. I mostly just wanted to see if this was the right number. My dad took it away, but I got a good look before, and - well - I guess I remembered it."
"I guess you did. What's your number Freddie?"
"I - I like it when YOU call me that! I hate it when HE calls me it."
He told me his number and said he really had to go. "Please don't call. Let me call you. It will - it will" another sob. "piss him off."
"Are you sure you are all right?"
"I can't really talk now - bye!"
"Is there a problem, dear?" My mom said.
"No - I mean, I don't know. I don't think he is in a any physical danger. He and his step-dad were yelling at each other when we left."
"My-my! While you were still there?"
"Well - no - but we were still on the front porch."
"Did the boy do something wrong?"
"He asked for my number."
"That would do it!"
"Huh?"
"Seth! I was being sarcastic!"
"Oh. Well anyway, there was a constant - I don't know how to describe it - the boys were just too perfect around their parents."
"Some parents are very strict about that."
"About what?"
"Oh, about their children making a good impression - not embarrassing their parents."
"He was worried about getting on restriction - again."
"He says they won't let him do anything. That would really suck!"
"Does his mother work?"
"Yes, she's an attorney."
"That's half the problem."
"Huh?"
"In the first place, women that work are often more involved with themselves than with their children - often more than with their husband. You said this guy was his step-dad? So you know she's been married before."
"Twice!"
"That's what I mean - she's been married twice."
"No, I mean twice BEFORE!"
"Well, anyway, it's easier to say no than it is to say yes to your children."
"Really? I'd have a harder time saying no than yes."
"Well there are those also, - the ones who can't say no. But your father and I decided when your sister was very young that anything that any of you asked us for, the first thing we would both do was ask ourselves, `is there any reason why not?' If we could not think of any reason, then we would say yes. But most people, especially those women who choose to work rather than take care of their children, find it easier to just say no. It doesn't take any thought. I suppose our method is a new phiosophy on child rearing. Your grandparents thought we were too permissive. But we didn't let you do things which were bad, or be disrespectful. We just let you do things that you wanted, which were not dangerous or bad."
"Even then, I found ways to get in trouble!"
"Well, we couldn't protect you from everything. And besides, there comes a time when a parent HAS to let a kid choose for himself - and suffer the consequences. I'm very glad you were fortunate enough to not get badly hurt in Vermont. I'm glad I was not there to witness it!"
"You have no idea!"
"And that's the way I'd like it to stay. I don't want to know."
"Good."
"Now, back to this boy - or is it boys?"
"Well, he has a little brother, but the dad is his real dad, and it isn't as bad for him."
"Maybe not, but - he is still affected. Well, if you ever want to have them over, that would be fine."
"I doubt his father would let him come."
"Why?"
"He probably saw my car!"
"?"
"They live in that gated community across the freeway - the one with the mansions?"
"Oh. Well, it probably would not be good to tempt him to disobey his parents. But if he wants..."
"Thanks Mom! When I get around someone like that, I realize how lucky I am!"
"Boy, you got that right!" Eddie walked in.
"What?"
"Sorry, I have been hearing you from the living room. I didn't mean to spy - I'm sorry!" He looked worried.
"It's all right, Dear. We were not trying to be secretive. I hope you know that I love you!"
"Thanks." And he wandered back to the living room.
RING
"Hello?" It's for you, Seth." Mom said, and putting her hand over the mauoth piece, "I think it's that boy again."
"Wow!" I whispered. "Hello?"
"Um - uh - (sob)"
"Freddie? What's wrong?"
"My - uh - dad - he's gone berserk. He threatened to kill me."
"Wha - why?"
"Um - oh! Gotta go!"
"FRED! I'll be parked outside your gate!" - click!
"What was that about?"
"I don't know, but he sounds - afraid - I mean really scared!"
"So you're going over there?"
"Uh - yeah. What do you think?"
"I think I want to go with you!"
"Really? Okay!"
"Eddie, dear, will you please tell Luke and the other's that we will be right back- probably. Thanks."
We pulled up outside Fred's gate. He wasn't there. I was surprised how disappointed I was. After waiting ten minutes, I said, "I guess he isn't coming. I hope he's all right."
"We'll wait a little longer. It's pretty late at night. He may be trying to be quiet."
About that time two heads came bobbing around the corner. "Wow! Charlie came too! I wonder -"
AS soon as they were around the corner, they ran the rest of the way to the gate and then to the car. They got in and Fred, not even noticing my mom was driving, said, "Quick, let's get going!"
She slammed the car into gear and floored it. It was soo cool! My mom, driving the "getaway car"! Back at our house when we arrived, everyone else was in the living room waiting for us. My dad was first to speak.
"What's going on?"
"These boys were in need of assistance." My mom said.
"Do they have names?"
"Sorry, Dad. It all happened so quick, Mom hasn't even been introduced. This is my mom and dad, guys."
"Hi, Seth's mom and Seth's dad." Even in his present state, Fred was a smart ass.
"Oh!" I exclaimed. You can call them Mr. and Mrs. Gary. This is Fred and this is Charlie. We met them at the beach. They had an accident and their dad - "
"MY dad, Charlie said. "And he is wigged out! I mean I've never seen his this pissed!"
"Hella pissed!" Fred enjoined.
"Okay guys. First some house rules. We don't use that kind of language in our home." Dad said.
"Sorry, but -"
"No buts. Just cool it, that's all. Now tell me what happened."
We told him how we met and about taking them home and our impression of how "too perfect" the boys were. Then Fred and Charlie told us of their dad "wigging out" after we left, about the car getting wrecked.
"First thing we are going to do, is call the police." Dad said.
"Oh, please don't call the police Mr. Gary!" Fred said
"Their mom is an attorney, dear."
"Sorry boys. We have to call the police. They won't come out, but they need to know ahead of time that we didn't kidnap you. Especially with your mom being an attorney. What does you dad do? Is he an attorney too?"
"Naw! He is the CEO at Coast Flax."
Dad called the police and briefly explained the situation. They had not gotten a call yet. "If it's okay with you, Mr. Gary," the officer said, "We will call the Willits's. It will be easier. Now you realize the boys may have to go back home? By the way, how are Eddie and Mel?"
"Who is this?" my dad said.
"This is Frank Edwards, the youth authority officer."
"Oh! Well, of course it is! They are doing - quite well, considering."
"Okay, well, just let us take care of this for you. I will call you back in less than an hour. Bye."
"Okay guys." Dad said. "The man at the youth authority is calling your dad. Don't worry, he knows how to handle these things." Fred started to cry. He acted like a tough guy at first but now was crying like a baby.
"You - you - you don't know my dad! He's gonna kill me."
"Okay, let me explain something to you, Fred. If you use that kind of language speaking to the police, they have to, by law, take it serious. Unless you really thing he will murder you, don't say that."
"He already threatened it! That car was his pride and joy!"
"But it wasn't your fault was it? And I thought it was your mom's!"
"She hates it. HE calls it hers. Says he restored it for HER. That's why she let me drive it. She drives her Escalade. Thinks she is king shit in it!"
"Language, Fred!" dad reminded him.
"I think" my mom said, "you meant Queen Shit don't you, dear?"
Dad looked stunned at Mom, then everyone cracked up! I was so proud of my mom!
RRRing
"Hello? Yes. Okay. Okay. Right. Yes. Okay. We'll do it." Dad hung up the phone. Okay, guys here's the plan. First Officer Edwards told me to tell you not to worry Fred - and Charlie. They have told you dad that this was standard procedure. If no other incident was ever reported, there would be no problem. But if even one more incident were reported, they would have to do a full report, background check and the whole ball of wax. He assured me your dad would not be a problem. And sorry about this, but he said that to reinforce this, the police will pick you up and take you home."
"Oh my god!" Fred said and he started to shake. First his hands and then his arms and it spread to his whole body. Eddie was sitting right next to him. Out of the blue, Eddie put his arms around Fred and squeezed him.
He just kept holding Fred and said, "Dude! It's gonna be okay! The Gary's know what they are doing! It's okay, man."
Fred relaxed, but then he started to sob uncontrollably. I looked at Charlie. That started him. He was crying and he said, "I HATE it when this happens. I love my dad, but - I hate when he does this to my brother!" I motioned him over to Fred. He went over immediately and also hugged his brother. Then I pointed Mel and Luke to him and I joined in. Mom and Dad just stood there with their mouths open. They heard Freddie's sobs turn into moans, and then almost coo's. Finally a big shuddering sigh.
"You gonna be all right, Dude?" Luke said.
"Damn! - er sorry - Darn! That was -so - cool - er - awesome!" Freddie said. "Well, we'll just have to see what happens."
"Freddie," Dad said, "What is the worst that has ever happened.?
"He broke my arm when I was twelve. I don't think he did it on purpose."
Dad frowned at mom.
Knock knock knock! Dad answered the door. "Hi, Mr. Gary."
"Officer Edwards! That was fast!"
"It's worse than we thought, Mr. Gary. He has a prior. The dad. He was reported in L.A. county when this same young man was brought into County General with a broken arm and bruises on his head and back. I already called and talked to Mr. Willits. He was very cooperative and polite, but that means nothing. I told him that the boys would have to come back for the night to the youth authority - "
"NOOoooooo!" Freddie cried.
"The Willits don't know where we are, Officer." My dad siad. "And unless you told them, they really don't know where we are. Can the boys stay here?
We are already approved by the county as foster parents."
"I - well - I can do that for one night. As a matter fo fact, often youth are placed with a family instead of juvenile hall. But tomorrow a social worker will have to come and interview the boys. Don't send them to school tomorrow."
"Okay, Officer, Edwards."
"Please, call me Frank!"
"Great! And you can call me -"
"I'm afraid I have to call you Mr. Gary - protocol! Sorry!"
"Okay frank. About when will the Social worker be here."
"I wish I could tell you! I HOPE its tomorrow. If it's not, can the boys stay another night? This kind of arrangement isn't supposed to last more than one night, but we are so behind, - well I'm sure you understand."
"No problem, Frank. We'll be waiting."
"What about our homework?" Charlie asked.
"Whaddayou give a shi - er why do you care, anyway, Butthea - er - Charlie? It's only summer school."
"Why do you go to summer school" I asked.
"We - my - our parents don't like us hanging around the house all day, while they are at work."
"I'll stop by the schools in the morning and have them gather some work for you, K?" Frank said. Freddie scowled at Charlie.
"Well, if that's all, I will be going" Frank said.
"Good bye, frank. Thanks!"
"No, Mr. Gary, Thank YOU! Bye!"
Dad closed the door. "Wow, Honey. Now with the grandkids here, and Seth and Luke, where will we put these new boys?"
Mel spoke up. "They can stay in our room!"
"There's only two twin beds in there, dear, where would they sleep?"
"I can sleep with Eddie, and," looking at Fred, "Can you guys sleep together?"
"Uh, - yeah, we can do that!"
"There are clean towels in the linen closet, boys, and I just changed the bed linens today." Mom said.
After I knew they were all in bed, I poked my head in and said, "I'm sorry guys! I had no idea it would come to this!"
The two sets of brothers were both in their respective beds. "It's okay, Seth. Actually it's kinda cool - while it lasts."
Luke and I went to bed. We showered - separately and then locked the doors.
"Wow, the first full day at the Gary's was exciting, Haoli!"
"Not as exciting as it is going to get in a minute!"
"I was kinda hoping you would say that!" And he attacked me! His arms, legs, hands and lips seemed to be everywhere at once! Before I knew it my hand was lubed up and he made love to it, while on top, as before, while kissing and caressing my face. He was quick in cumming.
"Dude! I'm sorry! I guess maybe you'd like to do that once?"
"I'm alright, Luker! Did you even notice that I came just after you?"
"No, dude! Was it good?"
"Excellent! You were so danged hot! I loved it!"
It was quite late so we didn't clean up `til morning. I woke first, as usual. It was still early. I had to pee. When I finished, I cleaned up, wrapped a towel around me and peeked in on the boys. I smiled at what I saw. They had switched! Fred was in bed with Eddie and Charlie was with Mel. Both Eddie and Mel were spooning the other boys. A little shiver-like shock went through me. I got back in and spooned Luke and went back to sleep.
Notes: Thanks for reading! I don't know where this is going, but Freddie and Charlie seem to have ingratiated themselves into my story! HUH! That was not planned! But then little is! Comments, as usual are welcome and appreciated. Write to Steve, s4d@hotmail.com. Mention Seth in the subject line, so I won't miss it among the junkmail.
