Episode 1: Something Wicca This Way Comes... Again Part I
"How's my favorite guy doing?"
Lex looked up from the frothy strawberry drink he was sucking on and turned around. Lyla wrapped an arm around him and sat down on the next barstool. She gave a big full-toothed smile, and Lex gave a smaller one. "Ly, you're just saying that cuz I'm the only guy you like."
Lyla laughed, and gave him a sarcastic look. She said, "Well, actually you're right. I broke up with Keri today."
Lex thought a little, trying to remember and organize all of Lyla's boyfriends. He remembered Keri. Tall, dark, and handsome. "Oh... That's too bad, I kinda liked him."
A look of surprise burst onto Lyla's face as her smile abruptly faded. "You did? You did. Oh, you did. Well you shouldn't have..."
"Why? He seemed nice. He wasn't avoiding me either like some of your boyfriends do."
Lyla sighed. "Yeah, well... I guess we just didn't really fit together." She gave Lex a soft punch in the arm, and he stuck out his tongue at her. She laughed. "What's up, Lex? You're so depressing today."
He gave a soft smile, looking up from his drink to her face. She was beaming, but still a tad skeptical. "Nothing. I'm fine."
"If you say so. Oh, Lucy's here."
Lucille came down the steps in no big hurry, her shoulder-length pitch black hair bouncing a little bit with each step. She put her purse on the table on the other side of Lex. "Hey guys."
"Hi Lucy." Lyla and Lex spoke in unison. Lyla contined, grabbing her sunglasses and perching them in her luxurious, silky hair. "And bye, Lucy. Lex, I gotta get going. See you at dinner tonight." She gave him a hug, the gave Lucy a hug before rushing up the stairs again, her heels clacking on the metal.
Lucy asked just as she was leaving, "Lex, why are you here, anyway?"
Lex gave a shrug. P3 was a pretty fun place, and it was around for about a decade. Still, he didn't frequent it that much at all. There were a lot of people around dancing to a throbbing beat, and the bartender was serving drinks like a storm. Lex usually went somewhere quieter in these twilight hours.
Lex continued. "Hey, did you know about Ly and Keri?"
She nodded. "You know Ly. Don't worry, she'll have a new one by tomorrow."
Lex smiled. "But still, I kinda liked Keri. He seemed pretty nice, and I think she should give more guys a chance."
"Lex..." Lucy bit her lip, and drummed her fingers on the bar. "You don't know why she broke up with him, huh?" Lex shook his head. Lucy rolled her eyes, and put her bag on her lap. "She overheard him talking with some friends. It was about you." Lex raised an eyebrow. "I guess she told him about you yesterday. He used the `f' word."
Lex pursed his lips, and went back to his drink, slouching. He frowned. "I thought he was nice... that shouldn't have discouraged Ly."
Lucy sighed. "Lex, don't say that. Needless to say, she punched him in the face and that was the end of that." She gave a snorting laugh. "Lyla really cares about you, Lex. You're her little brother, after all. If her boyfriends aren't going to accept you, then she won't accept them."
The strawberry drink was quickly extinguished as Lex drank it all in one deft suck of the straw. He turned to Lucy. "I shouldn't stop her from being happy, though."
"Lex, don't you get it? Ly wouldn't be happy with a guy like that. In fact, you being gay has helped her weed out all the assholes she's dated."
Lex laughed, and said sarcastically, "Well if you put it that way."
Lucy gave a half smile. She leaned in to whisper in his ear, looking behind him. "Hey Lex. Admirer at six o'clock."
Lex spun around. There was a tall, muscular but clean shaven man with a beaming disposition stirring up drinks. He handled himself well, skillfully twirling bottles and glass cups with an air of whimsical carelessness. He looked up from his work at them, and smiled. Lex turned back to Lucy. "Who, the bartender? Is he one of your students or something?"
There was a silence, as Lucy looked rather exhausted. "Lex. He's looking at you."
Lex shook his head. "No way! I'm the unpopular one, that doesn't make any sense."
"Okay, Lex. I don't know why you hate to admit this, but guys and girls hit on you so much all the time."
"That's notÑ"
"Ah-ah! Let me finish." Lex closed his mouth and blushed. "Okay, so maybe Ly has a lot of guys. But that's just because she's a supermodel, and that's a bit of an unfair advantage. And maybe I get a wealthy amount of guys because, well..."
"Because you were modeling too before you started teachingÑmaking you hot and smart?"
"Well... I'm not one to brag, but yeah. But apparently you don't believe me when I say you're hot stuff."
Lex still continued to shake his head. "Name a time when someone liked me."
"Alright. Two days ago, at the Chinese restaurant. That waiter couldn't take his eyes off you the whole time."
"...That doesn't count."
Lucy scoffed. "Oookay, how about the day before that, when you went to Ly's photo shoot. That blonde photographer who kept wanting to take pics of you? God, I think she gave you her number too..."
"Lucy, stop it. I just... look really different." He sighed. "Besides, I don't even have half the talent either of you have."
Lex was about average height, skinny but toned, with tanned skin and pitch black hair cut in feathery layers that just vaguely got in his eyes. His hair, just like his sisters, was shiny and soft. But he was perfectly proportioned; and his elegant demeanor offset his seemingly delicate body.
To be honest, Lex was ashamed with himself in every aspect. He thought that he looked awkward and bizarre compared to Ly, and he wasn't nearly as genius as Lucy was. Lucy gave a smile. "I give up. I guess my big brother's just blissfully unaware of himself."
"Thanks for trying to cheer me up, Luce."
Lucy raised her hands. "I didn't know anything was wrong. Lex, wanna catch a ride with me? I'm going home."
Lucy grabbed her bag and stood up, but Lex shook his head. Lucy shrugged. "Suit yourself. Come home soon, alright?" They waved goodbye and Lucy went up the stairs. It was just Lex again.
He sighed, staring into his empty glass. The mysterious bartender walked over, and fetched his glass. He gave a warm smile. "You okay there?"
Lex smiled back. "I guess that's the question of the day. Could I have another one of those please?" He motioned at the drink.
The bartender leaned in close. "You sure you don't want anything with alcohol? Nice guy like you... shouldn't be without."
Lex gave an oblivious laugh. "Ha! Ahh, no thanks." The bartender winked and went to fix another drink. Lex slouched again. `That was nice of him, I guess.'
Lex was surprised to see a young woman, about 18 or so, fumble down the stairs with so much haste Lex could swear someone was having a stroke or something. She was fairly attractive, with long flowing brown hair. She ran straight in Lex's direction. She grabbed his hand. "Uh, Miss?"
Her eyes glazed over, and she spoke firmly and decidedly, as if not to Lex but to someone invisible behind him. "Powers three come into me/ The Power of three will set you free."
Lex raised an eyebrow. "Pardon?" As she spoke, Lex felt a slight tingling from where her hand touched him. It started in his fingers, then webbed out into the rest of his body until it permeated every corner of him. "I...wha..."
She shook her head, quickly running back the direction that she came. Lex still felt tingly, and he pressed a hand to his temple. "Nnhh..."
The bartender came over with the drink. "Hey, you don't look so good. Kinda pale." He reached over and felt his forehead with the back of his hand. "You gotta fever."
"No. Thank you, but... I'm fine." He grabbed the drink and slurped up some more, as the bartender ran to the other end to serve some other customers. "Ugh." The drink seemed a little too sweet now, and he set it back down on the table, away from his. His eyesight got a little fuzzy, and a splitting headache started to creep into his mind. "What's... going on... here?"
He gasped, suddenly feeling his drink in his hand. He looked around; nobody was close enough to have handed it to him. The bartender came around again, leaning forward. "Listen, lemme get some ice for you."
Lex started breathing heavy. He quickly set his drink down on the counter. "I'm gonna... gonna go." He reached into his back pocket, fumbling out his wallet.
The bartender stopped him. "Don't worry `bout it. They're on the house."
Despite the painful throbbing, Lex managed to break out a smile. "Really? Oh. Thank you so much." He replaced his wallet in his pocket and paced his way towards the stairs.
The bartender smiled and yelled to him from behind. "Just promise I'll see you around again!"
Lex gave one last wave to the bartender, and nodded. "Yeah!" He rushed out as quick as he could, pressing his fingers to his temples.
The bus ride over was hell. Not only was it late, but it was crowded and stuffy and filled with rude people. The whole time, Lex couldn't help but think about that bizarre woman, and the mysterious incident of the appearing drink. Finally, they reached his stop. He flashed his bus pass and ran out the door, knocking on the door of the Russel Manor; their home.
"You guys!" Lex yelled up the stairs, panting harder. "Where are you?"
He looked to his left. Lyla was rushing Lucy from the living room and heading towards the stairs. Lex was surprised to see Lucy pressing her temples in a similar way to how Lex was. Lyla seemed unharrowed. She spoke quickly, taking Lex up the stairs as well. "Lex, good, you're here. Something bad's happened."
Lyla sounded serious, which meant that the matter was definetely nothing to laugh about. He followed the two of them up to the attic. "Ly, what's happening?"Lyla took their hands and dragged them into the large attic, sitting them down on a couch. She reached into a box in the corner, pulling out a marvelous, ancient tome with a triangle on it. "...Ly? What is that?"
Lyla shushed him. She flipped through the pages, finding one that seemed right. Lyla placed the book on a well-placed pedastal, and reached into another box, pulling out five white candles and arranging them in a circle on the wooden floor. She procured a lighter and lit them all. Lucy spoke up. "Lyla, please tell us what's going on. I'm getting a little freakedÑ"
She raised her hand in the air. "Hear these words/Hear my cry/Spirit from the other side/Come to me/I summon thee/Cross now the great divide."
A flash of lights; Lex and Lucy briefly shielded their eyes against the brilliance, and put their hands down when the dim twilight through the window prevailed again. Lex gasped.
Lyla was still there, book in hand. But in front of her, in the circle, were three shimmering figuresÑcompletely see-through but still with distinguishable outlines. They were women. One w as a little bit on the curvacious side, with lovely long brown hair but a distinguished look of determination on her face. The second was pretty, skinny and lithe, with her silky hair in a bun and several tattoos on her wrist and back. The third had pale white skin like moon light and luscious black hair, offsetting her smile and blood-red lips perfectly. All three were dressed surprisingly stylish.
Lucy's mouth was agape. "What is the meaning of this?"
She gave a desperate look to Lex and Lucy. "I'm sorry guys... You weren't meant to know yet."
"Lyla. This can't wait. The Seven could find out at any moment, we have to hurry." the long-haired woman said. Her voice was a little nasal and very commanding, but filled with confidence.
"Right." Lyla turned to Lex and Lucy. "You know how...mom and dad were witches, right?" Lex nodded. Lucy just gave a stern stare. "Well... some witches are born with certain powers. Supernatural powers. Mom and dad had them. And so do we."
Lex laughed; then stopped, seeing that everyone else was dead serious. He sighed, again pressing his temples. "Great. Just great. Whatever, let's talk about this laterÑcan we do something about this... pain?"
The woman with the tattoos turned to him. "Don't worry. That's just the after affect of your broken binding spell. You just need to use your unbound powers so that they'll adjust to your body."
There was a bit of silence, as Lex and Lucy processed what was happening. Lyla bit her lip. "...You guys, I'll explain more after you get eased into your powers, so you can concentrate." she sighed. "Your powers were both bound when you were born. But mine weren't."
Lyla turned to the three figures in the circle."Phoebe?"
The tattooed woman acknowledged. "Go ahead, sweetie."
Lyla nodded back. She stepped forward, so she was positioned in between Lex and Lucy, but still standing. "Watch closely." She leaned her head back, and put her hands to her heart. She closed her eyes.
A glowing red light shone from her forehead in a star. She drew one hand up; a corona of the red light grew from her feet, and bloomed outwards on the floor. Lex gave a gasp, drawing his feet onto the couch. The crimson halo encircled the floor and soon encapsulated the room in ruby light.
But then the most surprising thing; red shadows of their own figures danced before their eyes, in a backwards loop. It was replaying exactly what had happened in the room! Lex scooted backwards, as he saw his own red shadow get up from the couch and walk backwards out the door with Lucy and Lyla.
Lyla breathed out. She let down her hands and hung her head, and the red light escaped into her again. Lex hugged a pillow to himself. Even Lucy was shaken. "...Lyla. Oh my god... Lyla?"
Lyla sighed. She sat down between them, and particularly comforted Lex, who was rather harrowed. "My power is to see the future and the past. And I can show it to you too."
Lex, temporarily distracted from the pain, looked up at Lyla. She smiled, and ruffled his hair. "So... what are our powers?"
The long-haired woman piped up from the inside of the circle. "One of you should be able to freeze time, and the other should be able to move things with only his or her mind."
"You wanna try? I'll help." Lyla said to Lucy.
Lucy shook her head. "I-I mean... this is all too much. How do I use them?"
"I used to freeze things by flicking my fingers. Try that." Lucy looked up; it was the long-haired woman.
"You have powers too?"
The pale woman smiled, and put her hands on the long haired one. "Don't worry `bout it! JustÑjust focus on your own powers."
Lucy just nodded. Lyla reached over and grabbed a pillow, and acknowledged Lucy. "Ready? I'll throw it, you just try and freeze it."
"God, do it. I wanna get rid of this damn headache." Lucy nodded. She threw the pillow; Lucy flicked her fingers at it. Nothing happened. "...Now what?"
The long-haired woman put her face in her hands. "Wait... Ly, your powers work differently than how Phoebe's did. They need a lot more concentration and cover a really large area, so maybe Lucille's are too."
"Yes! Yes, that's good. Piper, help her with that." Phoebe addressed her.
The one known as Piper rolled her eyes. "Ok... Lucy, sweetie, look at me." Lucy looked up at her, giving a piercing, intimidating stare. "...Um... hehe, yeah. Alright, I remember that I used to be motivated by fear. But your powers probably work differently, so just bear with me, alright?" Lucy nodded. "Greeeaaat. Okay, now close your eyes." she complied. "Good. Now, this may seem a little weird. I want you to think of green lights."
"What?"
"Just do it." Lucy shook her head, and concentrated for a bit. "Are you thinking of it?"
"Yes!!! Where are you going with this?"
Lucy was really quite indignant, and Piper didn't appreciate it. "...You're lucky I'm a ghost."
Lex gasped. "You're a ghost?!"
"Lex! Please!" Suddenly, a green flash of light permeated the entire room. They looked up. Lex let go of his pillow. It was floating in midair. "...My headache's gone."
Lex pushed the pillow, finding it still frozen in the air. "Oh my god! Luce... You can stop time!"
Piper smiled. "Perfect." She turned to Lex, who jumped a little as the effects wore off and the pillow fell to the couch. "Now, Lex. That means you have the power of telekinesis."
Lex rapidly shook his head. "There's no way I can do that! Stop it, you guys, you're really scaring me..." he rolled into a ball. "Ly..."
Lyla reached over and hugged Lex, and Lucy rather awkwardly touched his knee. Piper rolled her eyes again, making a rather hopeless moan. Phoebe smiled, and patted her on the back. She turned to Lex. "So our sister, Prue, had the power before, and so does Paige." The pale woman gave a small wave. "Prue used to squint her eyes... try that."
"Just squint? Um... Ok." Lex squinted his eyes at a pillow. Again, no response. "...It's not working."
"Try calling for the name of it." Paige said.
"Alright." Lex squinted his eyes, just in case. "Pillow!" Still nothing happened. "...I knew this wouldn't work."
Paige waved her hands. "No, no, no don't give up. I found my trigger by accident, maybe...maybe you need to too."
Lex perked up. "Wait. At the bar today. I said something... and then I felt my drink in my hand." He held out his hand out to the pillow. "Here!"
There was a chime, and the pillow flew out towards Lex, hitting him in the face. "Mph!" Paige laughed especially, but Lex frowned. He lightened up again. "Hey... I feel a lot better!" His serial bemusedness was followed again by yet another frown. "...Oh my god. We have super powers. That just hit me: we have freaking super powers."
"Ha! You're taking this better than we did." Piper said rather cynically.
Lucy looked over. "Okay. Now that we're feeling better, would someone please explain who you people are?"
"I'm Phoebe Halliwell..."
"Paige Mitchell, or... Matthews."
"Piper Halliwell. We're the Charmed Ones."
"Or were..." Phoebe interjected. "As you can see, we've recently been... hehe, killed."
Paige sighed. "Took `em long enough. And we were doing so well too..."
"So then what are the Charmed Ones?" Lex leaned his head on his arm.
Lyla leaned over and spoke to both Lex and Lucy. "The Charmed Ones are the most powerful witches born. They are three... sisters, who fulfill an ancient prophecy of the Power of Three." She motioned to Piper, Phoebe, and Paige. "These three ladies are the Charmed Ones. And during their position, they have vanquished... countless demons and kept many more innocents safe."
Lucy stood up. "What does that have to do with us? Why has this happened to us?"
"Luce, we were born like this. Mom and Dad just bound yours and Lex's powers. They didn't want you to worry." Lyla bit her lip. "The reason we've been awakened is because the original Charmed Ones have died before their time."
"How?"
Lyla turned to Lex, as if hesitant to answer his question. Piper answered it instead. "Demons. Lots of them. Caught us completely by surprise, seperated us, and killed us before we could even muster a time-traveling trick or something."
"Time travel...! Hey, should we try that?" Phoebe said, and the rest weren't sure if she was serious or not.
Lex drew further back into the couch. "So... now there are demons."
"Yes." Lex's eyes widened, but Lyla came forward to comfort him. "No, but you see, we can fight them! You, me, and Lucy have been chosen to be the new Charmed Ones. We fulfill the prophecy, and we share descendants with them as well."
Lucy raised an eyebrow. "...We're related to the dead guys?"
"Hey!" Phoebe yelled in protest, but Lucy didn't respond.
"Their great grandmother is our first cousin thrice-removed."
"Yes! Yes, we'll have lots of time to talk about the family tree laaaaater. We really need to get to the important stuff, Lyla." Piper made a point of hurrying the conversation.
Lucy scoffed, throwing up her hands above her head. "How can you expect us to just accept this? WhatÑwe get headaches, then we meet dead people, then we have magic powers and we're supposed to fight demons or something??? This is ridiculous!"
"Luce, please... this is important..." Lyla approached her, putting her hands up and trying to calm her down.
Lucy pushed her away, walking towards the doorÑleaving behind Piper and Lylas' protests. She turned around. "Lyla, I am sick of this. It's been one thing after another, and I can't stand it!"
Suddenly, a shimmering void of darkness appeared in the doorway, and Lucy was flung backwards into a cupboard. They five spectators jumped, as a monstrous racous accompanied her crash.
"Lucy!" Lyla ran to her side, and helped her up; Lucy pressed a hand to the back of her head, where she hit the cupboard door. Lex gasped in disbelief, as the void coalesced into a pair of red glowing eyes. The shadow of a figure materialized around the eyes, and a woman with curly black hair and an elegant leather black gown was standing in the doorway, a smile on her face.
The three women in the circle drew back, only a little bit phased. Piper turned to Lyla, wildly waving her hands at her. "Well, hurry! Do something!"
Lyla quickly stood, running towards her and jumping up in the air for a marvelous drop kick. The Woman in Black simply raised her hand, and Lyla froze in midair, panic striking her face. She flicked her hand, and sent Lyla into a bookshelf.
"Oh, screw this." Piper took a deep breath, and ran out of the circle of candles. Rather abruptly, her formerly transluscent form turned solid, and she looked as if she had been alive all along. Piper flung her hands in the air, and the sound of a sharp chime filled the room. A storm of explosions engulfed the Woman in Black, pummeling her completely with fire and bursts. She flinched with each one, and although she was unharmed, she couldn't keep up with them.
She gave one last glare to Piper over the explosions. "This ain't over, witch!" Just as suddenly as she came, her body dissappeared, and the haunting red light of her eyes brightly shone and went.
The fire storm stopped. Lyla and Lucy got up from their respective places, rubbing their own backs and heads. Lex snapped out of his daze, trying to process everything that just happened. "Who... what was that?" said Lex.
Piper sighed, putting her hands down to her sides. "That was Amy. One of The Seven, and the leader of Zira's Sisterhood. The fact that she found you already is not a good sign."
"The Libris must be more powerful than we thought..." Phoebe stepped forward from inside the circle. "We've waited long enough. Lyla, Lex, Lucille... stand up and join hands. Ly, sweetie, take out the blessing spell we wrote."
Lyla nodded, and pulled out a slip of paper. She held Lex's left hand, and Lex held Lucy's. Lucy was still a little sore in the head. "What are we doing now?"
"God, these questions... it's a spell, it'll protect you guys for now." Piper said. She carefully stepped back into the circle. As though passing through some veil of light, her form turned ethereal again as she joined her sisters. She joined hands with Paige and Phoebe. "On three, read the spell." They nodded. "Okay. One, two, three."
"Evil cannot stand and fight/In this hallowed place of light/By the will of the Power of Three/Protect this place by land and sea"
Their six voices intermingled into a powerful echoing boom. Their spell reverberated in the entire house, permeating the walls, the floors, the ceiling. As it was done, a feeling of comfort mysteriously seemed to envelop them all in a warm blanket. Lex smiled. Lyla put the paper back into her pocket, and Lucy turned around to sit down again.
Lyla stopped her. "Luce. One more thing." Lyla bent down and picked up the large tome she was reading from earlier. Lucy paused, curious. "This is the Book of Shadows. It used to belong to the Piper, Phoebe, and Paige, but it appeared to us after they died." Lyla opened it up, and Lucy walked over to plifer through the pages. Marvelous hand-drawn images of shadowy and luminous figures alike were depicted and accompanied by descriptions. Others simply showed words depicting secret spells. But the book was amazingly antique, and Lucy couldn't restrain herself from it.
Paige spoke from behind them, still in the circle. "Just join hands over it, and use the Power of Three spell. We're kinda spinning our wheels here, but we're pretty sure that'll work."
Lex joined Lucy, but responded to Paige's statement. "Make what work?"
"To truly make you the new Charmed Ones." Piper said. She twiddled her fingers in front of her, trying to find the right words to explain to Lucy and Lex. "Okay, so you already have your powers unbound because you took in the Power of Three. That also makes you very powerful witches already. But being the Charmed Ones requires a bond: by blood, by love, and by trust. The Book of Shadows will bind you together with a rite, so that you can truly trust in each other."
Lex slowly nodded his head, and Lucy gave out a rather quiet "Ahh..." Lyla took their hands, placing one of each of their's on the Book's cover.
Lyla looked at them both. "Say it with me. The Power of Three will set us free"
Lex and Lucy joined her, their voice becoming as loud as it had during the first spell. As they spoke, a shining light descended from the ceiling, bathing them in an iridescent glory. Lex and Lucy looked up in amazement, but didn't cease the spell. Piper, Phoebe, and Paige smiled.
Finally, the light faded. Lyla stopped first, then Lucy, and Lex. They were looking down at the book now; in the formerly empty triangle, a triquetra had appeared. One line was red, one line was green, and the last was blue.
"Good. You're done." Piper sighed. "And it's about time too." Lucy gave her a dirty look, but Piper shot back with one that was just as bad. She turned to Lyla, who was now setting the Book on a conveniently placed pedestal. "Lyla. I had to step out of the circle when I fought off Amy, so we don't have much magic left in us right now. So we'll go back up there, and you fill in your brother and sister with the rest."
Paige gave another wave, and Phoebe gave a big smile, yelling out, "Good luck!" Piper did her best to smile as well, as another swarm of lights engulfed the three of them, weaving them back into nothingness. The candles went out by themselves.
Lucy finally sat down, and Lex took his place next to her. "...Maybe this is a dream." Lex contemplated.
Lyla sat down next to him, and placed an arm around them both. Lex cuddled back, but Lucy was non-responsive. They watched the twilight set out the window. "...I'm sorry. But there's still more to say."
Thanks for getting this far!
