Caught My Best Friend (part 6)
What do you do when your best friend since high school turns out to be a cross-dresser? Is your friendship strong enough to survive this? I hope you enjoy this work of fiction.

I picked up Jim that evening. We were going to Jake's Bar, a local sports bar where we could get a quick meal and enjoy the game over beers.
"I know you look pretty much the same as you did this morning," said Jim, "but I look a lot different – I think things will never be quite the same between us."
"They won't," I said, "they will be better – are you still feeling femme?"
"I guess I'm kind of in-between," she said, "I still feel like Ginnie but know I have to act like Jim."
"I'll let you know if you stray from that," I said.
We arrived at Jakes and parked. As we walked across the parking lot I noticed that Jim was not walking properly and said, "Hey, you're walking like a girl!"
Jim straightend up and changed his walk. "Damn! I didn't even notice that," he said, "I don't want people to think I'm a faggot!"
We entered the bar and got a booth with a good view of a nearby TV screen. We ordered some burgers and beers and enjoyed the pre-game show. Like most pre-game shows, it was pretty boring, talking about what might happen in the upcoming game. I wished they would just skip the pre-game and get right to the game.
Still, the pre-game gave us time to talk without missing anything of interest. We talked warmly and soon it was clear that things would be very different with Jim. "I don't know if I can be Jim for you again," he said.
"The 'for me' part isn't important, but you have to be Jim in your job," I said, "I hope I haven't messed you up for that."
I nursed my beer, since I was driving, but Jim was now on his third. What the hell, let him get good and drunk if he wants – he's been through quite a bit of change lately."
The game was about to start when I felt Jim's hand on my leg. He leaned over and whispered, "I know you want to see the game, but could we go home?"
I agreed and we departed. As we walked to the car, I asked, "Are you alright?"
"I'm still Ginnie," Jim said, "even in boy mode – how am I going to live like this?"
As we drove home Jim held my hand. At first I was a bit uneasy about it, but realized that it was really Ginnie at my side.
Arriving at Ginnie's home, I took her inside and she burst into tears, saying, "I don't know how I'm going to survive this!"
I took Ginnie into my arms, even dressed as Jim I knew she was Ginnie. I kissed her and led her to the couch where we sat together.
We talked for hours, and Ginnie said that she really wanted to stop pretending and be a woman full time. There were some obvious complications, like her employment, but there were many other issues as well. My experience with transgendered woman might be helpful now.
"Do you know of a good therapist who specializes in gender expression issues?" I asked.
"I wouldn't know where to start," Ginnie confessed.
"How about the people at your support group," I offered, "would they know?"
"I think some might," Ginnie responded, "I know some are transitioning. Would you go with me next Thursday?"
"Yes," I said, "I will be glad to – meanwhile perhaps you should remain as Jim, to stay in character for work."
"You are probably right," she said, "but you have opened my mind to who I can really be!"
"Ginnie dear, I need you to just 'tough it out' for a while," I replied, "while we figure out how to proceed with your transition. Meanwhile, I need you to be the very best 'Jim' that you can be."
We kissed and I departed.
Throughout the week I called Jim daily to see how he was doing. He assured that he was passing as a man at work, but had to struggle with his feelings.
On Thursday night I picked up Ginnie. She looked as lovely as ever and smiled at me, so glad to be herself once again.
We drove to the support group which was held in the activity center of a local church. Ginnie introduced me as her boyfriend, and some of the other girls teased, asking if I had any brothers.
Ginnie was embarrassed by this but I assured her by squeezing her hand. As we introduced ourselves, I explained that we were looking for a good therapist to guide us in Ginnie's transition.
The moderator of the group asked the girls to write down any therapist referrals they cared to offer and give them to Ginnie. She congratulated Ginnie in her decision to transition.
Many of the girls looked really passable, while some looked like they dared not show themselves in public outside the support group. To me it was clear that Ginnie was the prettiest girl in the room, though I may be a little biased. Still I was really pleased to be at her side.
The meeting was rather boring, but over after a few hours. We thanked the moderator and left with three different referrals, with the moderator advising us of the one she thought was the best.
We returned to Ginnie's house and went inside. I agreed to make an appointment for us to see a therapist, favoring the one the support group moderator recommended.
"I know I have to back to being Jim," Ginnie said, "but before you leave, would you make love to me?"
I agreed and we adjourned to the bedroom.
