Chapter 7: The Storm Breaks.

Damn: Today is Monday morning, and I am due to return to school. But, on the bright side, the sooner I get the show on the road, the faster I see Eric.

My dad spoke to me, after I talked with Lucas and Jean last night. He told me to go home, since my boyfriend was not feeling well. Reluctantly, I did.

I have been awake for about an hour. With three to go before class. I decide to take an early walk along the beach, so I can watch the sunrise.

Getting up, I put on a pair of jeans, a black T-shirt and my shoes. I grab my IPod, then I head outside. The air is brisk, but not freezing.

With my favorite music blaring in my ear, I start my walk, buoyed by the fact I am getting on with my life.

On my way, I notice my surrounding neighborhood: It is clean and quiet, a bit on the upper class side. It contains a big park, with the ocean located ten minutes from my house by foot.

I think,

'Wow, I am turning into a beach boy!'

Arriving,, the sight takes my breath away.

As the dawn breaks, the horizon grows lighter, signally the imminent arrival of the sun.

I decide,

'I'm going to make my walk a daily habit. This feels like a piece of heave: Hell, I might even take up surfing!'

The morning skyline continues to brighten. I notice, a surfer. When I approach, I see he is awesome.

As I sit down, I lose sight of him, thinking,

'Oh well, back to my sunrise.'

As I await its appearance, someone taps me on my shoulder. Turning, I see the surfer holding his board. He says,

“Hey, Brandon."

Recognizing him, I reply,

“Hi, Nate.”

“What brings you here?"

“Oh, I came to watch the sunrise."

“Me, too. I have been surfing daily, for a couple of years now."

We gaze silently, until another guy runs up to us.

“Hey, Cousin, sorry I'm late.”

“No problem, I got a few rides in.”

At this point, he notices me, saying,

“Who is this, Nate?"

“Sorry, I didn't introduce you two sooner: Meet Brandon, my best friend.”

Nate puts his arm around my neck, which sends a shock through my body, causing me to think,

'Funny, up to now, only Eric made me feel that way!'

I'm jarred back to reality, when I hear Nate say,

“Bran, this is my cousin, Jacob: Everyone, but me, calls him Jake. I call him Dumb Ass!”

"So why haven't I seen him around?"

Nate smiles, before he says,

"He only moved here a couple days ago: Jake is staying with me, my mom and little brother. Also, remember you were busy with a certain some one at the hospital,"

"Yeah, I will start school with you guys today." Jake happily cuts in.

Meanwhile, Nate still has his arm around my neck. I say nothing, as we watch the most amazing sunrise.

The multiple shades of blue are breath taking.

Taking it away, Nathan asks,

"So, Brandon, it would be cool to hang out with you like this everyday. Maybe if you are interested, I could teach you to surf."

"That would be great!"

"Awesome!"

After a few more minutes, we part ways. As I leave, I think.

'What a great way to start my day!'

While I shower. I mull over my morning, specifically Nathan.

Today, I put on a sky blue, button down shirt, together with my favorite pair of black jeans. After making sure my hair looks good, I bound down the stairs, two steps at a time.

Entering the kitchen. I find my dad and brother eating breakfast.

"Morning, Son."

It feels good hearing my father call me that. After I reply in kind, he asks,

"Where did you go this morning?"

I explain to him.

"Wow, that sounds cool, Bro, I didn't know Nathan could surf."

"Yes, I forgot to mention I also met his cousin, Jake."

"Great, sorry we didn't tell you about him, you were so busy with Eric,"

"No problem, Lucas."

After we finish, I listen to my music, while my twin readies himself. My mind drifts to Eric.

' I wonder how my boyfriend is doing today?'

Meanwhile, Eric walks over to his hospital window. He looks out, while thinking.

'I'm going stir crazy: I have to wait till Wednesday, before I can get out of this prison! Just imagine, I could be at the beach, observing the sunrise. It sure seems beautiful out there. I feel fine, I don't see why they can't release me today. Sure, I need some therapy, but I can do that at home.'

Suddenly, someone taps me on my shoulder. It's Peter Croft, my therapist.

"Good morning, Eric, nice to see you are up and about. We have a lot of work to do today."

"Oh, goody!"

"Let's get started with something simple, how are you feeling?"

"As if I'm about to go out of my mind, I hate being stuck here in the hospital!"

"I can understand that, Eric. I know you rather be in the open."

"Oh, you are good, Doc!"

"That's why they pay me the big bucks!"

"Right."

"So let us continue our talk about your relationship with your boyfriend."

"Well, like what?"

"Do you feel you are ready for a commitment?"

"Hey, wait, I thought we agreed to avoid that subject."

"Eric, you must face it. So, do you feel you are ready?"

"Yeah, it's not as if I looked to be in one. But, when I met him, I just knew we were meant to be together."

"Honestly, I think it is not the right time for you"

"I couldn't disagree with you more!"

"Eric, you went through hell with your father. However, you have yet to deal with it. Yes, you are now free from him, but not what he has done to your psyche. Yesterday, I noticed you lashed out at others, including your boyfriend. All were simply trying to help you."

"Okay, so it was a bad day, I have been living in hell."

"Exactly my point, Eric, you must come to terms with your past, before you can move on. Sadly, the pattern is for the victim is to become an abuser, unless they confront their problems."

"So, what does that have to do, with me not being in a relationship right now."

"To make sure you don't harm anyone, especially Brandon."

"I would never hurt him!"

"That is where you are wrong, Eric, you already have: Consider all those times you squeezed his hands tighter, yelled at him, spoke for him, instead of allowing him to do so."

He pauses, permitting me to think, then he continues,

"You see, you acted already. If it goes unchecked, you will do so repeatedly. Each time becomes easier than the previous. You need to develop into the wonderful boy you are capable of being, then you will be ready to participate in a healthy relationship as an equal."

"I never thought of it like that. But, you are asking me to break up with the love of my life!"

"Only until you heal."

"I don't know: I almost killed him once, when I tried to end our friendship for the wrong reason, how can I do so again, even if I'm justification?"

"Because he loves you, Eric. He is willing to do anything to help you move on to a happy, successful life."

"So why can't I be with him, while I get the aid I need: His support will make my recovery easier."

"To a degree, yes, but the relationship will distract you, endangering your recovery."

"But suppose, something happens, such as either of us falls for someone else."

"Then, it would not survive on its own. However, we conjecture, the fact is he loves you, and he wants you to get well, "

"Suppose I agree: How do I tell him to step aside, until I am cured?"

"That will be difficult, however if you feel you can not, I will speak on your behalf."

Reluctantly, I agree, while I think,

'I hope my love is having a better day than mine.

Meanwhile, Brandon walks into the school bathroom, interrupting a pair of boys, one of whom says,

"Dude, let us explain!"

"Vynse, I saw you giving JJ a blow job, you do know this will kill Jean."

"Please, Bran, don't tell her."

I look both of them in their eyes, before I say,

"How can you fool around, then ask me to keep this a secret from my best friend: I will tell her at lunch, unless you do so!"

"We could not help it, Brandon, we have been together for awhile. We are sorry Jean got in the way, but we needed her to hide our relationship from our parents."

Finished, JJ adds,

"I tried to play it straight with Jean, but the longer I was with her, the harder it got to tell her I'm gay. Then, when school started, I noticed Vynse. We connected, however I'm not ready to come out of the closet."

I stay quiet, hoping to make them squirm even more. Then, I say,

"You have till noon!"

With that, I leave for my next class. I can't concentrate on the lesson, mulling over what they have done. Next thing I know, it's lunch time. I hope the two talked to Jean in the interim.

I reluctantly walk to the cafeteria, afraid of what I may encounter.

As I progress through the lunch line, I hear three familiar voices shouting.

They argue back and forth for, as if it were a marathon boxing match, until the knockout blow is struck.

"I hate you both: I am too disgusted to even look at you, go away. I never want to see either of you again!"

Next, my best friend runs out in tears, leaving the two boys speechless in her wake.

I race after my heartbroken best friend, yelling,

"Jean, please wait up!"

She stops, turns, then she rushes back to me, sobbing,

"Brandon, I...."

Her words become hard to understand, so I wrap my arms around her.

I feel other students watch, but I don't give a damn. All I want is to comfort my broken hearted best friend.

She was there in my darkest hour, now I am here in hers. During the short time I know her, she has always been strong, full of life, in short a true queen.

Just then, we are interrupted by a voice neither of us want to hear.

"Hey, if it isn't the freak and the bitch."

Looking up, I yell,

"Get the hell out of here, Kara!"

"Not till I make both of you more miserable!"

"You are a cold hearted bitch!"

"Brandon, you stole my Eric, now it's payback time!"

"Go to hell!"

"Oh, I probably will ,Brandon, but not before I show Eric these pictures of his so-called boyfriend intimately embracing a girl!"

"Kara that is just plain stupid, it won't work. Jean was hurt, I helped her: It is what friends do for each other. Oh, that's right, you haven't any!"

"Well, it won't matter, I will soon get Eric back for good!"

"Yeah right, as if he will believe a word you say."

"These photos are not the only thing I have: I just found out, I'm pregnant, Guess whom the daddy is?"

"Could be anyone, you are the school slut!"

"Well, you see, Mr. Reeves knew Eric would never willingly bed down with me. However, if he were in slumber land, then fair game. So, one night, he invited me over, when Eric was dead to the world. As I am sure you know, the boy is a hard sleeper, he would remain unconscious through an earthquake. I made my way to his room, then I had my way with him. He stayed hard as hell throughout, calling the name of some hot boy in his sleep. Oh the look on your face, Brandon, that is priceless. Did you think you were the only guy on his mind, so I worked my magic, and the rest, as they say, is history."

"Okay, Kara, suppose I believe you. It doesn't matter, you won't get Eric, even if you have the kid. He will still be with me, we will raise the baby together!"

Then, my dear friend, Queen Bee, although she hurt, steps in to help me.

"Look, Bitch, if you don't leave us alone I will again kick your sad ass. Eric and Brandon are in love, I shall make sure they grow old together, so back the hell off!"

With that, we walk down the hall to our lockers, before we continue on to our next class.

I can't wait, till this day ends!
