Chapter 2

"Fuck I runaway and I have been gone for almost a year. Don't you get the point? I wanna be left alone." I yelled as I paced my living room.

Jackson watched me from the chair he was sitting in. He had a smile on his face. "And you always get what you want." He said.

I stopped pacing and looked at him. "What's so damn funny?"

"I told your parents you'd do this one day. I told them you'd get fed up with the bodyguards and various other forms of security and that you'd just disappear and try to live a normal life." He sighed; I could tell he was thinking about my parents and how much he missed them.

Jackson and my father grew up together. They had been friends all of their lives, up until my father's ended.

"Of course, they didn't believe me." he said smiling at me.

My face softened as I looked at the man who I called Uncle Jack for most of my life. "Well looks like you knew me better than my own parents." I said sitting on the couch.

He sighed. "I'll give you what you want. A normal life." He said standing. "You'll get everything back. All of your money which is in an offshore account, when I get back to the office I'll start that procedure. And then I am out of your life." He said with a touch of sadness in his voice.

"No!" I pretty much yelled. "I don't want you gone." I said walking towards him. "You're the only family I have left."

"Then why did you run?" he asked.

I looked down at my feet. I hadn't uttered his name since that night. I had no reason too. He was dead.

"Oh." The older man said softly. He decided to change the subject. "You do know that since we're giving your money back you have to have at least one bodyguard right?" he explained to me.

"Fuck, I knew there was a catch. I don't want my money and I don't want a bodyguard." I nearly yelled.

"Ouch. That hurt me deep to the core." a familiar Texan accent said.

I turned to see Austin Moore standing there behind me. I ran to hug him.

"It's good to see you remember Me.," he said wrapping his arms around me.

"How could I forget you?" I said into his chest.

We stayed like that for a few moments but I felt something start to stir in me that I haven't felt for a year.

I quickly pulled back like Moore touch had burned me. I gave him a weak smile.

"Well I see that you two are going to be fine." Jackson said standing and heading for the door. "You should have the rest of your money in your account by midnight. It's nice seeing you again Ty-Derek. I have to get used to that." He said opening the door. "We'll be in touch."

I watched him walk down to the caravan of black SUV's. I turned to Moore,

"You snitch!" I said closing the door and putting my keys on the table.

"You wish. You know that watch you wear?" he said pointing to my wrist. "Give it here."

I took off my watch and handed it to him. "What about it?"

He turned it over and pointed to a red light that was blinking. "He can activate it when you're missing. He knew where you were before any of us did. He just wanted to give you your time," he explained.

"Damn. I couldn't get away if I wanted too." I said not putting the watch back on. I looked at it and remembered it was something my father gave to me. I set it on a table and then noticed two duffel bags. I looked up at him. "Well I guess I should get you settled in." I said taking one bag.

Moore and I got into my daily routine with no problem. At first I had him keep a safe distance away so no one would notice him. But as the days went on, I noticed he started getting distant.

So after class I made sure to make him walk with me. "This better?" I asked.

He nodded. "You know, I was worried about you when you ran out like that." He said looking ahead us.

"I know, but I had to at least get away for maybe a few months. Just to see what being a normal person is like." I smiled to myself. "I did miss the big circus whenever it was time to go somewhere." I looked over at him.

He smiled too. "I remember when I first came out to the job. It was like a zoo. And there you were. Right in the middle of it all, I remember thinking `this kid can't be the boss of this.'" He said as a wisp of nostalgia came over his face.

"Yea I miss it too." I said wrapping my arm around his waist. "Well we're together now." I said.

"Yea." He said putting his arm around my shoulder.

As his arm lay across my shoulder I started to feel something in my stomach that I wasn't sure I was ready for.

"Derek?" I heard a voice behind me.

I turned to see Sean standing there. I slipped out of Moore grasp. "Yea?"

"Who is this?" he asked with a trace of jealousy in his voice.

"It's a friend." I said watching him carefully.

"Oh. Ok." he said eyeing Moore carefully.

"Is there something else?" I said.

He shook his head and walked away.

"I'll be right back." I said to Moore and took off after Sean.

I had almost caught up with Sean when someone tackled me. I turned over to see Nate on top of me.

"You didn't think you could just kill me and forget about it, did you?" he said as his rotting hands reached out for my neck.

"Fuck!" I yelled snapping myself out of my daymare. I looked around and my fell on my face. There was no blond hair and there were no green contacts. Just my blue eyes staring back at me through my black hair.

I was in the bathroom of the bar I worked at. My cheap one bedroom apartment was up the street. I lived in Brooklyn and I did not have 25 million in the bank; in fact all I have is $46.43. I looked down at my left wrist, the watch that father bought me with the locater chip in it was given to a French counterfeit passport maker; in its place was a cheap Timex.

"Holmes!" the bartender calls into the bathroom. "Your break is over; these drinks aren't going hand themselves out!"

"Yea Manny." I said putting my fake New York accent back into place. "I'm coming." I looked in the mirror again and then splash water on my face. "How the mighty have fallen." I said to myself.

I straighten myself up and walked out the bathroom and into the real world.
