Big Bad Wolf

Chapter 5

The weeks had went by, autumn turned to winter, my favorite season. I just finished finals online. Scott and Stiles' papers were coming close to being due and I felt that they were going to get solid grades for their work. At one point Scott asked me if everything was alright between me and Derek, to which I responded that everything was as good as could be expected. I didn't see Derek again until one evening when I was out grocery shopping. I was looking to buy a turkey for Christmas dinner and some steaks. I had been bringing food out to my wolf friend every once in a while. During my debate with what size of turkey I wanted I heard a voice come from behind.

"Hello Mace, happy holidays."

Without looking, trying my best to keep a civil tongue. "Hello Derek. To you as well."

"Are you celebrating?"

"With whom?"

I turned to finally look at him, his expression appeared somber. He realized the error in what he said.

"I didn't mean anything by that, I just forgot."

"Don't worry about it."

I turned my focus back to the frozen poultry in front of me. The stacks of white blobs seemed to blend together.

"Will you speak to me?"

"What do you want me to say Derek?" My tone was low, almost a whisper.

"Anything you want."

"I don't think you want me to do that."

"I want to be your friend."

"You have a interesting way of trying to gains someone's friendship."

"That day in the bookstore I was on edge. A friend of mine got injured and the person responsible got away."

"I'm sorry to hear that. However don't think that that excuses your behavior. What you did was beyond rude and frankly if that is how you really are. I don't want you as a friend. "

"All I can say is I'm sorry. And that I hope you will forgive me."

I watched as he turned and walked away. It was a strange feeling. My resentment was melting as I thought about what he had said.

Over the next few days Scott, Stiles, and I reviewed their papers. Apart from a few grammar mistakes their work was impressive thus far. I was told that Stiles was going on Christmas vacation early and asked Scott to bring over his paper so I could give it one final look over. It was the day before winter break when Scott had called me saying that he was on his way.

"Alright I'll leave the door unlocked. I'm going to take a shower. I'll see you when you get here."

"Okay."

I was trying my best to get past the worst case of holiday blues I had ever experienced. I spent Halloween and Thanksgiving alone, now I was to spend Christmas alone as well. I missed grandma, she would know just want to say. The lavender began to relax my mind and soon the sadness settled down to where I could better handle it.

I had just finished getting dressed and was brushing out my hair, leaving it down over my shoulder when I heard Scott talking. Before I even began to wonder, I knew it was Derek that Scott was talking to. To be honest I wasn't even irritated at him anymore. It was better to just let it go and move on with me life. So with a light smile I rounded the corner.

"Hello guys, how are you doing?"

"Hey Mace, I hope you don't mind Derek asked to come along."

"It's no problem at all. Did you bring the papers?"

"Yeah they are in my bag."

With that I sat down next to Derek, yet not on purpose. Scott's bag was on the one chair and Derek was sitting next to it. As I sat down, lightly tossing my hair back a line of water droplets hit his shirt.

"I'm sorry Derek, I thought I dried it enough."

"Don't worry it's just water, just be grateful I'm not a witch."

I smirked at his attempt at cheap humor. Scott handed me the papers and as I reviewed them I felt Derek's leg gently bump mine. He quickly moved it,

"Sorry about that."

I went back to grading, Scott's paper didn't take me too long. His positive and negative review was compelling and interesting. I predicted that he was going to get an A. As I turned to Stiles, I noticed that there were some sentence structure problems, but I knew what he was meaning so I suggested for him to review the problem area. I was grading in silence when I felt Derek's leg hit mine again, this time he left it.

I was finishing up Stiles' paper while Scott was reading his when Derek spoke.

"How is your large painting coming along?"

"It's is good, pretty much finished."

"Would it be alright if I went to look at it?"

"Go ahead I'll follow after I finish this last section."

He quietly stood up and disappeared, going into the studio. I had just checked off one last remark and was giving Stiles' a last comment when Scott broke the silence.

"You know he's sorry right?"

"I am sure he is. I'm not upset with him any more. I just know what kind..."

"No Mace, he comes off as an asshole believe me I know, but that is all a protective front. He doesn't want to get hurt. He lost his entire family in a fire. If anyone could relate to what your going through, it's him. Give him a chance."

"Scott...I...." I suddenly stopped, unable to figure out what to say next, and nodded my head.

"Here give this to Stiles. Tell him from me that he will get a B+. And that it's a really good read."

Making my way to the studio, I felt foolish and a little nervous. I turned and went into the white room, looking at Derek as he was standing in front of the completed work. I stood next to him trying to figure out what to say, but realized that I didn't have to. He broke the awkward silence.

"It's incredible. Are you completely finished with it?"

"Yeah I think so. I'm putting it up for sale in a few weeks, after it's reviewed."

"How much do you want for it? I want to buy it."

I started to laugh, but when I looked over at his more than serious face I stopped abruptly.

"You're serious."

"Yes what do you want for it?"

I spit it out before I could even think twice.

"Do you have any plans for Christmas eve?"

"No" he said.

"Spend it with me, have dinner here and the painting is yours."

He looked shocked.

"No I couldn't do that."

I was stunned, shot down in the most embarrassing way.

"No no no no....that's not what I meant. I want to spend Christmas eve with you and have dinner, but I want to pay you for your work as well."

I quickly calmed from my rash chagrin. He did want to spend Christmas with me.

"Honestly I have more money than I need."

I turned to him, he looked slightly down to me watching my every move as I spoke.

"I will not accept your money."

"What do you want then, name it."

"Anything."

"Anything."

"You promise."

"I do."

He crossed his heart.

"No judgment."

"No...now tell me."

"A kiss."

The array of expressions that traveled across his face was almost comical. First surprise, then wonder, and finally what looked to be lustful desire.

"Are you sure?"

"That is what I want."

"I better make it worth your while then."

He gradually leaned down, gently placing his hand on my cheek, tracing the edge of my bottom lip with his thumb. My eyes closed as the feathery weight of his lips touched mine. As our mouths connected, moving to the rhythm of their own tune, his hand traveled around to my back. He firmly pressed against my back forcing a faint moan to escape my lips. The taste of his tongue made my body hot and as I titled my head back he continued his passionate assault down my chin and throat, resting on my neck. Teasingly he nibbled his way back up landing once again upon my lips. His were so incredibly soft as he pulled back. While the oxygen took a few moments to come back to my brain I found myself using his arm for support.

"Is the payment acceptable."

Finally opening my eyes, looking at his devious smile. He knew I was still on cloud nine but wanted to hear me give him praise, vain and a little self-absorbed I thought. Deciding to give him a taste of his own medicine I put on my best poker face.

"That was horrible."

He was speechless. I walked to the doorway of the studio, slightly turning my head to see him standing in the same spot, face not changed.

"I'm kidding, the painting's yours. But if your ego is truly hurt you could always try again."

I cocked my eyebrow, watching him step closer, closing the space between us as he lowered his head just a fraction. He smoothly pushed himself against me forcing me to take a few retreating steps, pinning me against the door. He grasped onto my hand, sliding it up until he had a good amount of his weight on me. He was heavy and warm, I could smell his body through his shirt. This mixture swam in my head, the scent of musky cologne and sweat. I placed my other hand around his back and boldly pulled him into me. His thigh rested between my legs.

"You like it rough."

"I am passionate, and an artist. I'm not a flower."

"No you certainly aren't. That's what I like about you."

"Enough sweet talk..." I lifted my head and planted my lips on his, aggressive and lust filled. As he released my hand I wrapped my arms around him and held him. His kisses, once airy, were now dominate and sensual. I ran my hand up his shirt, resting on his shoulder. He took a step back and as he did a swell of emotions hit me and man did they hit hard. He could see the glossiness of my eyes.

"Are you alright, did I hurt you?"

"No not at all. It's just been a while since I felt that kind of passion.  So for that I should thank you."

We remained silent for a few moments. I made my way out of the studio and back to the dining room to find Scott talking on his phone. It sounded important so I gave him some privacy and walked out back. I could feel Derek's presence behind me. I smelled the air, rain was coming.

"I really like it out here. Complete freedom."

"I know what you mean."

He stood next to me, by my side, making me feel wanted and protected. We remained silent until Scott came out and said that he was ready to head out. Derek seemed a little less than enthused to leave, but we all went back inside and I walked them to the front porch. Scott thanked me for my help,

"Thank you Mace for tutoring me and Stiles. You're a pretty cool guy. It would be fun to hang out. I know you may think your alone, but I want you to know that you have my friendship, Stiles as well."

"Thanks Scott."

"No problem."

He turned and headed towards his car. Derek now stepped in front of me.

"Thank you for giving me another chance Mace."

I nodded my head. He turned and started walking after Scott to which I made my way back to the Manor. I went inside and took but two steps before the bell rang. I opened the door to see Derek,

"Hey did you forget something?"

"Ya I did."

With that he pressed his lips on mine. It was a simple yet sweet kiss.

"Couldn't leave without properly saying goodbye."

He finished saying this and turned, running to  Scott's car down the drive. I smiled and shook my head as the door shut.
