Chapter 3

The next day I got up and did the same morning routine as the day before. I picked up Mike and we drove to school in mostly silence. It was one of those mornings where I didn't really feel like talking because of the grogginess from not getting enough sleep. However, I did have an interesting dream the previous night. It involved the school winning the state championship for football, Kirk being hoisted into the air, after which he ran and found me in the crowd, me still in my cheer uniform, except for some reason I felt like I was captain, which I'm not, and he was captain to, he leaned down and kissed me, while the crowd looked on and clapped, encouraging us to kiss longer and harder, then I woke up.

Then I realized that I was already in the parking lot at the school and Mike was waving a hand in front of my face. "I must of dazed off," I informed him. "Yeah that seems to happen a lot to you these last couple of days, since you first saw this Kirk guy," he said. I had told him about Kirk and I meeting. "So what were you thinking about anyway?" he asked.

"If I told you, I would have to kill you!" I teased.

With that we both got out of the car. I got my duffle bag and my backpack and headed to my first hour. I nonchalantly said hi to many of my friends in the hallway but I didn't really pay close attention to any of them. I don't want to brag, but with all the clubs that I did and Student Council, and cheer, I had a lot of friends and many people knew me. Even though I saw all those people in the hallway, and I was happy that I had that many friends, there was only one person I wanted to say hi to. But it didn't happen that morning. Or that lunch. Or that afternoon. Practice was long and boring that Tuesday, since we still had to get ready for the coming game on Friday. Before I knew it the day was over and I was laying in my bed again, ready to go to sleep, with only him on my mind.

That next day, Wednesday, started out normal. I got up, got dressed, packed my duffel bag full of clothes for practice, said bye to my mom, grabbed the keys and headed over to Mike's to pick him up. It was barely the first week of school and I already started to hate the routine, if It wasn't for cheer and my friends and football, I don't know what I would do.

We got to school a bit early so we went around and talked to our friends in the parking lot until the bell rang. I didn't see Kirk at all that morning, I started thinking it was a bit weird that I hadn't seen him since our abrupt crashes on Monday.

I walked into my first hour math class and sat down in my normal desk near the back to the right. The morning announcements came and went and my math teacher started going off about equations and variables, I don't know about you but I personally dislike math with a passion. I probably dozed off because I don't even remember the door opening, because the next thing I saw was Kirk, my blonde hunk, up at the front of the classroom handing a paper to my math teacher. "Alright, theirs and empty desk behind Jake, over there," said Ms. Fleming, as she pointed and made Kirk walk towards me. Our eyes met as he was going to sit down and he gave me a smirk, one to signalize hi and of course I remember you.

He sat down behind me. He took his binder out of his backpack and started taking the math notes that were on the board. Halfway through the period I felt a tap on my shoulder, I leaned back and tilted my head a little so that I could hear what he wanted to say to me.

"What's up buddy!" he whispered.

"Bored, so what are you doing in here anyways?" I asked.

"I had to switch math classes, my other one was way to hard, I was dieing in there, had no clue was going on, I felt like a retard," the last part he sounded kind of sad.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure your no retard star quarterback, besides I don't like math either, most of the time I manage to scrape by with a b, what class did you have anyway?" I asked.

"Honors college algebra 3,4, with Montgomery," he replied.

"Yeah, your crazy bud, he's the hardest math teacher In this school, im glad you switched cuz you wouldn't have had any field action this season if you would of stayed in his class, no offense" I added.

"Non taken," he said, "Well im glad I have a class with you now Jake Stevens" he added the last part with a smile, and that made me feel good.

"Yeah, me to Kirk," I replied.

"Would you two be quiet back there!" yelled Ms. Fleming, it was funny to hear an old lady yell, plus it took us by surprise. So he squeezed my shoulder as we both chuckled and got back to work for the rest of the period. Two minutes before the bell rang as everyone was getting there stuff together we continued our conversation.

"So you coming to the game this Friday?" he asked nonchalantly.

I looked down at the RJHS cheer 09-10, shirt that I was wearing.

"Oh yeah, hahahah, stupid question right buddy!" he said. I liked it when he called me buddy.

"So, do you like to party?" he asked.

"I do and I don't, I mean its fun to get a little buzzed, but its different to get hammered and forget about what happened the night before, why do you ask?"

"Cuz I was thinking maybe you knew where the good parties were at, lets say on Friday, after the game"

"Don't you have your football buddies for that" I asked.

"Yeah but I was wondering if you knew about other types of parties"

"What other types of parties?" I asked, a bit confused.

"Never mind, forget I ever said that" he said, a bit quickly. The bell rang and we all started pilling out of the classroom. What the hell did he mean by, "Other types of parties" I just threw to the back of my head and forgot about it. We were in the hallway when we said our goodbyes. "Later buddy," he said extending his hand. "See you later Kirk," I was expecting a fist bump, but he took my hand and shook it. And he held it there for a bit to long, again. With that he left, scurrying down the hallway. I watched him as he walked away, he high fived a couple guys, some that I knew, and he said hi to a couple of girls. I was impressed that he already knew that many people. At the end of the hallway he stopped and talked to a friend of mine from student council. Her name was Elizabeth but we all called her Liz, she was the Sophomore class Treasurer. I don't know why, but I was enraged when I saw that she was trying way to hard to flirt with him, so I turned around and headed towards my second period class.

That afternoon I bumped (as in found him, not knocked him down) into Kirk before practice, and we chatted for a bit about a whole lot of nothing, like we had been friends since pre-school. But eventually we both had to go to our respective practices. So we said our goodbyes. Practice was rough, as usual, except this time we spent an hour and a half in the weight room because coach wanted us "strong enough" for Friday. God damn it lady, were not gunna be playing, I thought. After practice, Mike, Heather, Jaime, and I went to have dinner at the local Mexican food place. We chatted about our week so far, and I told them about Kirk switching into my math class. After dinner I went home and discovered that mom wasn't home yet so I just crashed.

Nothing interesting happened on Thursday, well, Kirk and I basically whispered all hour in math class. Then we chatted again after school before our practices. I got to tell you I could get used to being around him this often.

Before I knew it, I was getting up on Friday morning. I got up, took a shower, and put on my uniform. On game days, we always wear our uniforms to school, and the football team wear there jerseys. I got my duffel bag, megaphone, and an apple, I said bye to my mom grabbed my keys and headed to Mike's house. Before we knew it we were sitting in the school parking lot.

"Dude im so pumped for this game! If they fucken lose im gunna tackle them all down at the party tonight, your coming with us right?" he asked.

"Umm yeah I guess, I haven't asked mom but im sure she wont care," I said.

"Hey im sure Kirk will be there, does that make you more excited lover boy?" he teased.

"Asshole, you know he's really nice, I don't want to mess things up with him."

We got out of the car and headed towards the school. I noticed that the hallways were covered in RJHS spirit posters, most likely made by the Pep Club. Crap, that's one meeting I missed, ill make sure to go to the next one, I thought to myself. I said hi to a couple people in the hallways and looked around for Kirk, for the possibility of us walking to class together but a minute before the bell rang I just decided to go without him.

I got to my math class and sat down at my usual desk. Just as the late bell was ringing the door swung open and Kirk came in, breathing heavily and apparently winded. I nearly jizzed my pants. He was wearing his football jersey and he looked, to say the least, beautiful. He was jersey number 34, the black material blanketed his pecs perfectly, it showed off his definition, and the sleeves hugged his bulging tan biceps in a way you wouldn't believe. The fabric encircled his midsection perfectly, not to lose and not to tight, and he was wearing dark blue worn out jeans. I analyzed all this in like thirty seconds. He sat down in his normal seat and as he did I got a whiff of what must be new cologne because I had never smelled it before and at that moment I got addicted to it. I wanted to just wrap my arms around him, bury my face in his chest and just inhale forever. I came back to reality when Kirk tapped my shoulder and whispered "Hi." I said "Hi" back. "you look fucken sexy in your jersey!" just kidding I didn't say that.

I did, however, ask the following. "So why u late?"

"Coach barely passed out these new jerseys this morning so I had to go get it, I had to run all the way over here from the football locker rooms,"

"Oh, cool, well there really nice, they look good, I mean you look good," I said, the last part a bit hushed.

"Thanks bud, glad you like it, you know you look good in that cheer uniform too," he said.

Just then Ms. Fleming caught us whispering so she gave us a "look" so we shut up for the rest of the period, we chatted just as the bell was about to ring.

"So, you excited about tonight?" I asked.

"Honestly buddy, im a bit nervous, I don't wanna screw up," he said, and I could tell by his voice that he meant it.

"Come on bud, Mr. star quarterback, your gunna do awesome, were gunna rape those fucken Marauders, and im gunna be right there cheering for you the whole time!" I consoled him.

"Thanks, I needed that," he told me. At that moment I wanted so badly to hug him and rub his back and gently kiss his forehead, it killed me that I couldn't. If something didn't happen between us soon, I am going to go crazy.

"So, you doing anything after school before the game? I hear you guys don't have to be back to school until five, and I don't have to be back till 5:30," he asked, I could tell he was kind of nervous, he looked cute, I don't know why he was nervous but I was starting to get an idea of why and I liked that thought. I quickly thought if I had made any plans for today after school and I didn't have any.

"Nah, I don't have anything planned, what do you have in mind?" I asked

" I was thinking we could go get something to eat," he said.

"Sure, that sounds awesome!" I realized my overexcitement, he looked at me funny, like he wanted to chuckle so I quickly threw in "I mean, sounds good."

"Alright, see you after school or at lunch then!" he said.

"Later buddy" I said, as we shook hands goodbye, another long, awkward "hand shake" We walked away towards our respective classes. And I swear to god, I had never been more excited for a football game in my life, or a school day to end for that matter. The thought of being alone with Kirk just made me ecstatic. I was about to have one of the best nights of my life...
