*********** Ryan's POV ***********

"Well?" I was looking at Alecx impatiently as she was drinking water. We were in her place now because she said she didn't want to make a scene in the streets. It took every ounce of my willpower to keep quiet all the way here. But now, my anger was overwhelming me. She had the most perfect guy in her arms and she's actually cheating on him! "What the fuck did you think you were doing?"

"Kissing Jack?" Alecx looked at me warily.

"Don't get cute on me," I folded my arms and gave her a withering look. "What about Jason? He is your fiancée, right?"

"Look," Alecx sighed out deeply as she sat down on her couch. "Jack's a great guy. I'm sure you'll like him?"

"What about Jason?!" I almost screamed out at her. "Does he know about Jack?"

"The truth is..." Alecx looked at me like she was trying to decide on something very important. "We're sort of on a break."

"A break?" I looked at her like she was insane. "He is the fucking father of your baby. You guys can't be on a break."

"I'm not sure that Jason's the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with," Alecx said honestly.

"What are you talking about?" I sat down next to her. "He's very handsome, very funny, very intelligent. He has an incredible body. And he has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. Why wouldn't you want to be married to him?"

"Ryan?" Alecx gave me a very weird look.

"I'm just saying that Jason's a great catch," I said defensively as I saw my sister giving me a searching look. Okay, maybe I shouldn't have said all those things about Jason. But I was just so angry she could break it off with Jason when he's the most perfect guy on the planet.

"If you think he's so great, then you marry him," Alecx said to me sarcastically.

"I don't know what your problem is," I stood up and glared at her. "You're the one who dragged Jason to Dayton to meet our parents. You know Dad would insist you marry him. And now you're telling me you might not like him that much?"

"I love Jason," Alecx looked at my eyes. "I love him very much. But he's really not the guy I see myself growing old with."

"I don't understand you," I cried out frustratedly as I walked to the spare room angrily. Life is so damn unfair. Here I was, missing Jason so months for all these weeks and thinking he and Alecx was living happily here. But the truth was that they had broken up and might not end up together. I know I should be happy but how can I be? It's not like I could go find Jason and tell him that if my sister doesn't want to marry him, I'd be more than happy to stand in her place, can I?

*********** Jason's POV ***********

This was turning out to be such a great fucking day. I hardly gotten sleep after that stupid dream last night and not I'm left with absolutely nothing to do the whole day. The huge meeting I spent days preparing for was rescheduled for tomorrow.

I need something to do! Anything. I can't just sit and look out that stupid window. I normally would have loved taking the time to look out the window and stare at all the huge buildings in Manhattan. But right now I was my mind occupied so I wouldn't think of Ryan and his stupid smile. The smile that was driving me crazy.

"There he is," I heard someone said but I didn't really pay any attention. I was just standing by the huge window of the lounge area, wanting to lose myself in the view.

"Hey there," I heard a soft voice call out to me. I turned around in shock because there was no way I could ever forget that voice. That voice that had been haunting my dreams.

"Ryan?!" I stammered out as I stared at his deep brown eyes. He looked so damn good. So damn god! I knew I was must staring at him like an idiot but I couldn't help it. Was he just another cruel dream or was he really standing right here in front of me.

"You look good," Ryan said as he stepped closer. There, that answered everything. He was real. I could smell him as he stood so close to me. I could feel his hand as he gently gave my shoulder a squeeze. This couldn't be a dream. This can't be another dream.

"Thanks," I heard myself answer him though I really didn't know where that came from.

"I must be disturbing you," Ryan said to me softly as he pulled his hand back.

"Actually," I gave him a grin. "I was gonna go for a early lunch and then probably watch a movie or two. They rescheduled this meeting I have for tomorrow and since I already finished my part, I'm free."

"Great!" Ryan beamed at me. "You don't mind if I tagged along, do you? My sister is so busy today to show me around the city."

"Well," I felt my knees shaking as I saw him staring at me intensely. Like he was burning holes in my body. "I really don't mind Ryan. But I'm sure you'd much rather go to some of the more touristy stuff, right?"

"Only if you don't mind," Ryan smiled at him. "I've only been here once and I didn't really get to enjoy the city that much. Alecx was too busy with school to show me around."

"Oh yeah," I nodded my head. "I was out of town when you came to visit your sister."

"Too bad," Ryan nodded his head at him. "I would have loved to meet you then."

"Because I'm going to be your sister's husband?" I said with a raised eyebrow.

"Because you're such a great guy to be with," Ryan was biting his lower lips as he answered. I felt my heart stop beating as I looked at him in shock. That I didn't expect. What the hell did that mean? I'm such a great guy to be with? Does that mean he wants to be with me?

"Jason!" I heard a female voice calling out to me. "My brother's here and he's---" I looked at the doorway and saw Alecx rushing into the room. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Ryan standing in front of me. Alecx looked so shocked as she stammered out, "Hey Ryan. You-you're here."

"Hey Alecx," I turned to look at Ryan now. He was trembling a little, like a kid who got caught with his hands in the cookie jar. "Wh-what are you doing here?"

"I-I just need to talk to Jason for a minute," Alecx said as she walked up to me, grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the lounge.

"I'll be back in a minute," I yelled out to Ryan as Alecx dragged me back to my office. I felt Alecx pushing me into my office a little roughly and she quickly closed the door.

"What the fuck is he doing here?" Alecx hissed out to me.

"I don't know," I was still very surprised at her actions.

"He saw me with Jack last night," Alecx groaned out as she sat down on a chair. "He saw Jack kissing me."

"What?!" I didn't expect that.

"I had to tell him we're on a break right now," Alecx looked at me.

"But---you're supposed to be my fiancée," I sat down opposite her. "So, now he thinks the engagement is off?"

"I just told him we're just giving each other space," Alecx replied softly. "I don't even really know what that means."

"Maybe we should tell him the truth now," I slowly started to realize what he meant by his remark earlier. Maybe, just maybe, he was trying his damn best to be happy for Alecx and me before but he really wanted to be with me. I mean, he did spend an awful lot of time with me and we had such a great time together.

"I know, I know," Alecx sighed out deeply. "I'm gonna cook him dinner later and tell him then. But don't tell him anything yet, okay?"

"What would I tell him, huh?" I replied a little sarcastically.

"Thanks," Alecx leaned forward and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"I love Central Park," Ryan said to me as we were sitting on a bench and looking at the pigeons. A couple of older women were feeding them some birdseed.

"It is beautiful," I nodded my head at him. We fell silent for a while as we just watched the people around us passing by. There was something between us now unlike when we were alone back in Texas. Maybe it was the fact that he saw Jack kissing Alecx and he knows now that I'm not gonna marry his sister.

"But not as beautiful as the sunrise in the ranch," Ryan said with a soft laugh.

"I'll give you that," I agreed with him.

"You ever...see yourself...living in a ranch?" Ryan whispered to me softly.

"Huh?" I looked at him in surprise. What the hell does that mean? Does that mean he sees himself living with me for the rest of his life? Fuck! What the hell was I thinking? He couldn't possibly be thinking of that.

"I mean," Ryan said as he blushed deeply. "You think you could live on a ranch for months? Or will you miss the city too much?"

"Well," I stammered out. "I-don't know. I mean, maybe with the right person."

"So, if the right person asks you, you would leave New York and settle in a small farming town?" Ryan looked into my eyes and started to grin a little.

"Maybe," I said as I shrugged my shoulders casually. I decided right there that I wouldn't dare hope that he would actually wan to ask me to live on a ranch with him. Maybe he met some of Alecx's friends and fell deeply madly in love. But he couldn't possibly mean me. Not me.

"Come on," Ryan said excitedly. "One more ride, please?"

"It's just a stupid subway Ryan," I said with a laugh.

"To you maybe," Ryan grinned at me. We purchased a token and rode the subway again. We ended up in a fairly clean and empty car. We remained silent for a while as Ryan just enjoyed the ride.

"I saw Alecx kissing another guy," Ryan whispered to me suddenly in the middle of the ride.

"Wh-what?!" I looked at him in shock. I had thought he wouldn't say that anymore.

"She's dating another guy," Ryan looked at me and took my hands and gave it a squeeze. "Do you know that?"

"I-uhhh---well," I said as I was blushing deeply. "I mean, we're on a break and she's free to date anyone she likes."

"She's a damn fool for going on a break with you, you know that?" Ryan said as he held on my hand. "I mean, you're everything she can hope for. Funny. Intelligent. Handsome."

"Ryan---" I was almost speechless as I saw anger and frustration in his handsome face.

"What the fuck is she looking for?" Ryan said as he let go of my hand. "I mean, you're already perfect Jason. What else does she want in a guy?"

"I'm not-perfect," I said with a blush.

"You are," Ryan nodded his head. "I mean, you-" He stopped talking as the train reached out station. The moment was broken and he just looked at me sheepishly as we stood up and got out of the train.

"Jason, wait," Ryan stopped me before I walked up to the streets.

"What?" I gave him a look but I kinda knew what he was talking about.

"I just wanted to-" Ryan said as he pulled me into a corner. But then I heard someone calling my name. I looked around and saw my Uncle Tony walking up to me.

"Jason!!" Uncle Tony walked up to us and gave me a hug and patted my back.

"Hey uncle," I grinned at him nervously. "What are you doing here?"

"Some business at cityhall," Uncle said to me. Then he looked at Ryan a little mischievously. "Is this your boyfriend Jason?"

"Uncle!!" I said as I looked at Ryan nervously. Ryan meanwhile was giving me a weird look now.

"Don't be shy now boy," Uncle laughed out loudly. "Everyone in the family knows you're gay. Maybe you could bring your boyfriend over for dinner and have him meet your Aunt and cousins."

"Uncle!" I felt my heart beating faster as Ryan's gave me a shocked look.

"Anyway, just call up your Aunt Sarah later and tell her when you and boyfriend here could come," Uncle said as he faced Ryan. "What' your name again son?"

"Ryan," Ryan said in a soft voice.

"Well Ryan, it's nice to meet you," Uncle Tony shook his hand. Then he said goodbye and told us he was already late for his appointment and quickly ran up to the streets.

"Ryan, I-" I looked at Ryan apologetically. I reached out to touch his shoulders but he pulled away.

"Don't touch me!" Ryan said angrily.

"Ryan?" I said as I felt myself about to cry.

"You're gay?!" Ryan's voice was full of bitterness and hostility. "So, what was Alecx to you, huh? A chance to prove you're a real man? Is that why you got her pregnant?!"

"No, of course-" I was about to say when I felt his hard fist on my face again. I fell down on the dirty floor as he ran away quickly. I jut watched as he ran up the stairs. I could swear he was crying as he ran away.

""Fuck!" I cursed out loudly. I picked myself up and looked around as the people were giving me looks. I never felt so alone and so unwanted in all my life. Maybe this is what being gay means. Living your life alone for the rest of your life. A lot of people their when you laugh but no one will be there when you cry.
