This is my third attempt at writing a story but it is the first one to go on nifty. I'd really love to hear what you guys have to say about my attempt so feel free to email me at cndoliver@gmail.com. Enjoy!
I woke up the next morning feeling unusually upbeat. I racked my brain to try to remember why. My brain was always foggy in the mornings so I was having an incredibly difficult time trying figure out the cause of my sunny disposition. It wasn't until I was halfway through my morning routine when I remembered. Colby. Geez what an incredibly sexy name. God Oliver, get a grip, he's probably straight and even if he wasn't what makes you think he'd be interested in you. I was scolding myself but it did nothing to wipe the smile from my face.
The more I mentally pushed him out of my mind, the more prominent he became in my thoughts. From the short time I've know Colby, everything was so easy. I was never a social butterfly, and only had a few good friends, unfortunately all of which went to the University of Winnipeg halfway across the city. I was incredibly shy when it came to new people but it was different this time.
I had breakfast with my parents and sister before I headed down to the university. I texted Colby on the way there and I told him to meet me outside his dorm and then we'd head down to Armes Lecture Building since he didn't know where it was.
When I reached the dorm, he was sitting on a bench reading a book. Damn. He looked even better than I remembered from yesterday. I found my mind wandering to thinking what it would be like to wake up in Colby's arms. It was only the second day of school and I already felt as though I was going to be insane by the end of the semester.
"Hey Oliver! How are you?" he said in an upbeat demeanour. "I got you a 'double double.' I swear this coffee is so good. I think they substitute the sugar for crack cocaine."
"Well I wouldn't doubt it, a lot of people would get the shakes if they went a day without it."
"By a lot of people, you mean you right?" he said with a chuckle.
"Maybe." I said before I took a sip of brew. "Mmmmm."
"I know what you mean."
"Well let get going. We have got a whole day of boring introductions and if I'm being realistic, the profs will probably dive straight into the course work." With that we walked to Armes. It wasn't that far from Colby's dorms so we were there about fifteen minutes early. Even so, there were already a good bunch of the seats filled up. Damn keeners. We found seats near in the middle section of the isle. We had to sit on the left side of the isle. Being a lefty, I had to sit where the desk part of the seat was on the left.
"So this weekend, I think maybe you should uh, come to my game." he said as I got comfortable in my seat. Damn wooden seats, so uncomfortable.
"What game?"
"Oh! Geez I forgot to mention I'm here on a football scholarship. Saturday is our first home game and I'm hoping my new friend will come and cheer me on. I have this thing about having at least one person I know in the stands. I know that you won't be able to come to all my away games but I was hoping you'd my designated 'known person' in the stands. It makes me try harder." Aww. Geez I wish he was my boyfriend. You just don't hear guys these days say stuff like that. I know he didn't mean it to be but that was damn romantic!
"Uh yeah sure! I'd be honoured to be your 'known person.'" I actually do enjoy watching sports. Especially rugby. I think it's cuz I like seeing muscular boys in short shorts. Boys in football tights are great too! "So what time is the game?"
"It's at noon. So can count on you being there?"
"You bet!"
The rest of the day went rather quickly. Colby and I spent the entire day together. We did run into one my high school classmates. Amanda. Man I hated that bitch. She was one of those girls in high school that all the girls wanted to be and all the guys wanted to be with. On top of that she was epitome of a Mean girl. God she was a bitch. If she didn't like you, which was highly likely, you definately wouldn't know. I hate passive aggressive people. Although she wasn't so passive with me. I seem to always fluster her feathers. She easily manipulated people into liking her even though she was mean to them. She and I have quite the history cuz I was the only one who could see through her act. I never put up with her shit. I was actually ready to ignore her as she had done me for the past year. Unfortunately, she saw something that she wanted. It was something we both wanted.
"Oliver! Oh my God! I haven't talked to you in forever." I've never seen this act but I know what she's up to. Sneeky bitch. "How are you?" she asked trying hard not to look at Colby.
"Uh...I'm go.."
"Geez Oliver, aren't you going to introduce me to your friend here." See, I told you, fake.
"Yeah sorry. This is Colby, Colby this is Amanda." I said as Colby took her hand and shook it.
"Nice to meet you Amanda."
"It's a pleasure to meet you." the bitch held his hand longer than needed. "You want to go get a coffee with me?" She doesn't diddle daddle does she?
"Um...well..."
"Oh you can come too I guess." she directed at me.
"No thanks you go guys go ahead." I said trying to hide my disappointment. Of course Colby's straight. What straight guy wouldn't fall for this act.
"Sorry Amanda, but Oliver and I have to get to class right away." My ears perked when he said that.
"Ok maybe next time then. See you around Colby." she said completely ignoring me. She stalked of, clearly disappointed Colby brushed her off.
"She's definitely a piece of work eh?" I asked.
"She's not so bad a I guess. But I can tell you guys don't like each other."
"No we definately don't"
The rest of the week went by in a snap. Colby and I got to know each other better. I learned that he had an older brother that went to the University of British Columbia. I guess his family has a thing for Canada. We settled into a routine of me meeting him at his dorm and then us walking to our classes. We studied on Thursday at my house. He told me he had ran into Amanda a couple of times. Before we knew it, Saturday came rolling around.
It's not unsual that I wake up happy. But there was a feeling of something else. I did my morning stuff then decided to do a little bit of homework before Colby's game. When I remembered why Colby wanted me at his game, that feeling of something else grew. I was incredibly happy that I could be his person. When I'm not immersed in my school work, my mind is on Colby. There was just something about him.
I finished my homework at around 11 so I decided to have quick lunch before heading out. When I was done, I grabbed my keys and headed out. I got to the University Stadium in no time and headed in to find a seat. As fate would have it I was late so the stands were already filled with spectators and fans. I found an empty seat near the front.
"God, what the fuck are you doing here?" said a familiar voice to my right. I turned to look.
"I'm here to watch Colby play. You're probably here to whore yourself out to the football team later I'm guessing." I snapped back at Amanda.
"You're such a faggot you know that Oliver? I guarantee you Colby isn't gay and I'll make sure I tell you what he's like in bed. So why don't you run along and find some nice butt queen you can go fuck." Can you believe the nerve of this slut?
"Wow, language. I see all the dicks you've sucked really has polluted your nasty trap. Why don't you go suck on some moth balls to get rid of that acrid stench emanating from your mouth."
"Whatever, you'll never get a chance with Colby. He and I had coffee last night and I can tell you that I'm this close to making him mine. He's not gay so just forget about him."
"Honestly Amanda, I know there's no chance in hell he's gay." I said trying to hide my disappointment. I mean who am I kidding, this always happens. I always fall for the perfect guy. The perfect guy who is perfectly straight. "I'm here because he's my friend. You can have him. I don't waste my time on straight guys."
"As long we're clear fag boy. Oh and I took the liberty to mention to him that you're a homo. I don't think he was very happy. I suggest you stay away from him. It's for your own good. You don't want him tormenting you like the guys in high school did now would you? So like I said, run a long and play with the other little homos like you." She was right. All I could do was nod my head. With that I stood up and left.
I ran to my car as fast as I could before my eyes gave way to the waterworks. What a fucking idiot I am. I always fall for the straight jocks. But the feelings I had for Colby were different. They were nothing I felt before. I'd never fallen this hard for anyone. We hadn't even known each other a week and it was already over. He knew I was gay.
