Allen - by tim Part 1

Two boys are sitting on a bench, under a tree at the local park after school. Their names are Allen and his best friend Rusty. Allen always talked to Rusty when he had something personal to talk about, after all Rusty is his very best friend from early childhood. Rusty was also the first (and only) person so far that Allen had told that he is gay.

"I've come to a decision." Allen said tenatively. "It's about time that I came out to more people."

"Whoa dude," exclaimed Rusty. "Are you sure that's a good idea? After all we are only fifteen, are you ready for how people at school are going to react?" Rusty then noticed the pained and exhasperated look on his friends face and suddenly a light came on in his head."Allen Martin, you dog! You found yourself someone special, haven't you?"

Sheepishly Allen replied, "Yeah, I have. It's our friend Calvin."

"Cool dude!" Rusty responded. "That just might work out." You see, Rusty had heard rumors around school that their friend Calvin definitely liked other boys. Also, at only fifteen, Calvin was the district junior Golden Gloves boxing champ and nobody wanted to take him on. "I must say my bud, you do have good taste."

This last remark caused Allen to blush furiously and caused Rusty to laugh himself silly. Even though Rusty was perfectly and hopelessly straight he loved to be able to joke around with his best friend this way.

"You know if you guys need anything I'm here for you." said Rusty in all sincerity.

"I know," replied Allen "that's why you've always been my best friend. I know you'll be there if I ever need you. I just had to talk to you about this first because I plan on inviting Calvin over tommorrow night and telling him and my parents at the same time."

"Cool," exclaimed Rusty. "If you want me there too you know I'll be with you."

"I appreciate the offer," replied Allen "but the fewer people that are there, the more comfortable Calvin will be when I tell him."

"Okey dokey," said Rusty "but I expect you to call me tommorrow night at some point and tell me all about it."

"Come on," whined Allen "you make it sound like we'll start making out right there in front of my parents!"

This caused Rusty to double over laughing because he noticed as his friend made that remark, he also started forming a slight tent in his pants.

"Looks like someone might be kind of fond of that idea." chuckled Rusty as he pointed down at his friends boner.

"Don't worry," said Allen as he blushed. "He'll behave himself or else!"

Both friends got up and continued on their way home, trading jokes and teases along the way. When they got to their street they made their goodbyes and Allen continued on for another three houses until he reached his home. The next day at school Allen was surprised that he made it through the day without turning into a total basket case. Although he was very nervous he did manage to invite Calvin over to his house that evening. Calvin was happy to accept because he wanted to find out why his friend didn't seem to be himself at school today. When Allen got home he told his mother he needed her and his dad to join him and Calvin in the family room when Calvin got there. Allen wasn't too worried about his parents reaction to his announcement. Even though Allen was an only child, his mother Judith, was a teen counsellor who had helped several gay teens through rough times in their lives. Also, his father Ben, was a successful lawyer who specialized in civil rights and had worked for several gay clients on gay rights issues. He felt lucky to have parents who were so tolerent and accepting of other lifestyles. He was busy thinking about how this new relationship was going to work out, when suddenly a knock at his door brought him out of his daydreaming.

"Hey Allen!" called out Calvin. "Are you in there buddy?"

"Yeah!" replied Allen nervously. Well, this is it, he said to himself. Time to get this over with and get on with things. "I'll be right there."

Allen opened the door to his room to face his friend. "Hey there Calvin....what's up?" asked Allen.

"I was going to ask you the same question." replied Calvin. "You weren't quite acting like your normal, cheery self at school today."

"Oh, what is normal anyways?" asked Allen, in a lame attempt at humor. "I'm sorry," said Allen, "that was pretty weak. Can you come down to the family room with me? I have something to talk to you and my parents about."

"Sure buddy," replied Calvin. "Just don't be so nervous about whatever it is. This must be pretty serious, huh?"

"Yeah, you could say that." replied Allen. Allen did seem to be put at ease though by the look of concern on his friends face. So Calvin followed Allen to the family room, where his parents were sitting waiting for their son and his friend.

"So son" started Mr. Martin, "what's this big announcement you want to make to everyone?"

Allen took a deep breath and then started. "I have something to say that is very important to everyone here and I want to get it all out at once, so here goes. Mom, dad, Calvin, I've found someone that I have very strong feelings for. As a matter of fact I would like to have a serious relationship with this person. Calvin Wilson, will you be my boyfriend?"

At that point the silence in the room would have drove a monk mad. Allen desparately thought to himself, Oh no! What have I done? No sooner than that thought had come to him, so did the first hit to his face. As the sickening crunch echoed through his head the second punch struck the side of his head, sending him sprawling to the floor. As the floor came rushing madly towards Allen he looked in the direction of his parents, who were just sitting there with shocked and distant looks on their faces. As soon as he was on the floor Allen felt several kicks strike his ribcage and then mercifully the lights went out for him.

When Allen came to, he dragged himself to his feet and looked around. He had been unconscious for about three hours. He also seemed to be alone in the house, or at least no one was answering his cries for help. He was in pain throughout his entire body and felt he desparately had to leave before someone came back and finished what was started. So Allen staggered in a daze out the door and down the street.

Meanwhile inside the home of Rusty Cooper, Rusty was watching a little tv when he heard a knock at the door. "Don't worry mom!" Rusty called out. "I'll get it." When Rusty opened the door he let out a loud gasp. He was not prepared to see his best friend barely standing there, covered in blood and bruises.

Allen barely managed to grunt out, "I don't think it went as well as I thought it would tonight." Then he collapsed forward into his friends arms.

"MOM! MOM!" screamed Rusty. "Come here quick! It's Allen, and someone has messed him up really bad!"

Well that seems like a good place to stop part one. Before anyone says it never would have happened that way, I have heard many coming out stories and know that we never know how anyone will take it when we come out to them. I have seen people disowned by others that you would have thought would have accepted them right away. I myself thought that when I came out, my parents would have disowned me. My father was very strict and my mother was a member of a very conservative, fundamentallist church. But my parents surprised the heck out of me and accepted it right away. So you really never know what will happen. The best advice is to find people you can trust and talk to and have a support system in place before you come out to those closest to you. Ok, thats enough of the soap box. I promise I won't do that all the time. Please let me know what you think of the story.
