Chapter Five, Part I

"Wes...wes...wesley," Luke said, in between kisses. "We...have...to stop!"

Wesley stopped obediently and stared into Luke's eyes. Those intense, compassionate eyes, which so closely resemble to those beloging to Seth.

"What's wrong?" he asked. "Isn't this what you want?"

"It is something I want..." Luke replied and quickly added, "If I was single."

"Taken huh?" Wesley responded with a chuckle. "Go figure the good ones are always taken...I feel like such an idiot."

"Don't worry about it," Luke said. "I'm under the influence of alcohol...you can't trust me."

Wesley laughs, "But at least you're honest when you're drunk."

"I think the alcohol kind of wore off during my nap," Luke said. "But thanks just the same."

"So who's the lucky fellow?" Wesley said, after a moment of silence.

"The NOT so lucky fellow would be the Mr.Brookes who sent me that stupid gift basket," Luke answered.

"Trouble in paradise?" Wesley asked.

"Yup....big enough to send me a stupid gift basket..."

"Ouch...it's like getting your secretary to break up with you...well, that type of deal anyways..." he said, looking away.

"Bad guy?"

"I gave him everything," he said, raising his voice. "My love and my faith..."

"And he up and cheated on you, right?" Luke finished.

"Yeah...I worked two shifts one night...i got home to find him fucking the guy next door, literally. He begged for my forgiveness and after I ignored him for a few days..he stopped pleading and he had his secretary call me to 'cancel' our relationship, that creep!"

"My guy...moved here with his straight-acting co-worker and had the third wheel push me away in the process...and I fly all the way over here to find out he had sex with his co-worker while under the influence of alcohol..."

"Did he use the 'my judgement wasn't clear, baby, you're the only one for me' excuse?"

"Yeah...practically...the nerve of some people..."

Hours later...they raided the mini-bar for small sodas and macademia nuts...

"I asked him to marry me," Luke said, showing Wesley the rings.

Wesley threw a macademia nut aside and said, "No way, these are beautiful."

"He turned me down," Luke said, bitterly. "Cause I spent too much time in my career...so I did a 360 turn for him...and that hypocrite goes and ditches me for this great job in Paris.."

"I'm telling you...they get more and more ungrateful," Wesley said, taking a sip of soda. "You give, they take..."

"And the nerve to cheat on me...we didn't evne break up for 72 hours...he goes and sleeps with another guy..."

"Unbelievable," Wesley said, thoughtfully munching his food. "Times like these...I just wish I'd swing back the other way."

"Yup, but once you hit the sack, you never go back," Luke said, swallowing more macademia nuts.

"Words of the wise," Wesley said. "So this Seth...hasn't even appeared in person or called yet to beg for fogiveness?"

"Well, I told the clerk to not transmit any calls up here...so he could've been trying...but of course, he resorts to the gift basket deal."

"Aren't gift baskets suppose to be one of those sentimental 'I'm sorry so-and-so died' or 'congratulations from the bottom of my wallet' type things?" Wesley asked.

"He says he loves me..." Luke said.

"Love is such a powerful word," Wesley said thoughtfully.

"Sometimes I blame myself...I feel like if I was around more...I wouldn't have driven us into all this," Luke said.

"You can't blame something like this all to yourself Luke," Wesley said. "Years of therapy has helped me to realize that."

"You too?" Luke asked, sniffling.

"I thought...maybe if I worked less and been around more...that he will always...love me..." Wesley breaks into a sob.

"Lean on me babe," Luke said, as Wesley sobs on his shoulder. "I know the feeling...we're just doom for heartbreak..."

"I mean what have we done to deserve all this?" Wesley asks, rhetorically. "Someone out there just has it against me, I should just swear off guys forever."

"I wouldn't go that far," Luke said, jokingly.

Wesley smiled, "Thanks, you really listened to me pour my heart out..."

"Anything for a friend," Luke said, "And thanks for listening to my bitch about my guy...well soon to be ex I think."

"What part of the states are you from anyways?" Wesley asked.

"New York," he replied. "You?"

"California," he replied. "I came to France to escape him."

"Wow, you fled the country for him, you must've loved him," Luke said.

"I still do." Wesley said, sadly. "I always will, he was a great part of me."

"I know the feeling..." Luke said thoughtfully.

"Is that Seth..." he asks suddenly.

"Yeah the feeling is for Seth..."

"No, outside your window..." Wesley said.

Luke looked up, "Holy shit, he's on one of those window washing things..."

"He looks a little pale," Wesley commented.

"That's because he's afraid of heights...." Luke said, worried.

"Oh....how romantic..."

"Seth!" Luke yelled, "Can you hear me?"

Seth nods nervously, he puts a piece of paper against the window.

"Luke, I love you, I'm so sorry about everything, and I didn't intend on sleeping with Mike. I have always loved you and you're the only one for me. By the way,did you get my gift basket?"

Luke laughed, "I'll meet you downstairs...LOBBY?"

Seth nods and the lift declines.

"Wesley, I hate to cut the bond fest short..." Luke said.

"Get out of here already," Wesley said.

Luke grabbed the ring box and ran out the door and headed for the elevator.

"C'mon..." Luke said, impatiently.

Wesley appears at the door, "Don't go."

"What?" LUke said.

"Don't go back to him, you deserve better."

"But you just told me..."

"I was just trying to be a good friend, but a better friend would stop you from committing yourself to someone who is unfaithful." Wesley responded.

"But everyone deserves a second chance right?" Luke said, pleadingly. "I mean I love that guy, and he got on a lift for me."

"Stay with me," Wesley said, bluntly.

"What?" Luke said, disbelief.

"These last few hours have been the best hours of my life, no one listens to me like the way the way you do...and if my therapist was here, she'd tell me to go for it...and i am," he said. "Stay with me, you deserve more than any person who cheats."

Luke ponders...a day ago, he'd lay his life on the tracks for Seth...now he was uncertain. To even consider such a situation, Luke felt the pressure building on.

Ding, the elevator announced its presence. Seth stepped off the elevator.

"I couldn't wait, I just hopped on any available elevator and got your floor number to come see you...oh Lukie, I'm so sorry and I really didn't mean to do all that and I just wnat to be happy and Luke?"

Luke couldn't break his stare with Wesley.

"Who's that Lukie?" Seth asked. "Luke, anyone home?"

Luke could feel his grip around the ring box loosen...and the ring box drops...the two silver bands spilling out onto the carpeted floor.

to be continue....
