---------------------------------------------------------------------- This will be the final Installments of Alive in the Lights, thank you all for your patience and support! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Grey Alexander Holden Age: 16-Main Character Zeke Anthony Holden Age 15: Grey's half brother. Cameron Drake Age 16: Teen singer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sit across from the Rolling Stone reporter, "Grey Holden it is good to see you how have you been?" He asks.
"I am amazing Mike, how are you?"
"Great, this is a really nice house you have." He says gesturing to living room.
I smile, "Thanks, I just had the whole place re-done and it's pretty much everything I have ever dreamed of."
"So you agreed to this tell all interview, which is a first for us. It has been about four months since you finished your tour without Cameron Drake who might I add did drop off if I am correct. Can you tell us what he is up to, and do you even keep it contact with the singer?"
"Yes, I did complete the tour with my brother but without Cameron. Following the fallout from RDC records going belly up he had to leave the tour to take care of his assets. Cameron and I actually have become best friends. I didn't leave him hanging in fact he signed on to my label HB Records. After the tour my father, Zeke, and my step mom and I all sat down and we renamed my label and I called Cam up and was like hey man I know things are crazy but you have a home here at my label if you're interested. He actually signed with me the next day. In fact we built this house and he lives here with his brother." I tell him.
Mike grins, "So you and the next biggest teen sensation share a house together? When can we expect music from him? Why did he not join you for the interview?"
I laugh, "Cam wanted to be here but he is actually putting the last touches on his new album, which will be due out right before summer. "
"That is fantastic so we can expect new music from him soon, if my notes are correct your brother just put out his debut album, and it has been number one on the Billboard charts for the past three weeks. How do you feel about being a huge part of his success?
I give him a weird look, "I wasn't a huge part of his success. Zeke is super talented and he put a lot of blood sweat and tears into his album. He deserves all the credit; I was just there for support. I am super proud of him, he really took to life on the road well. He loves it. In fact he is on a little tour stint with some other artist that signed with the label."
"Yes seems when RDC went belly up you picked up quite a few artists from them as well as some break out artists. I take it your label is doing really well?"
"Well when the news broke how most of those artists weren't receiving a penny it killed me, I was fortunate enough that my old label gave me a good deal, so I wanted to offer them a great deal as well to let them experience what the music and touring life is really like. So yes the label is going really well. "
"It seems like you have created a music empire, so when will we get to hear new music from the emperor himself?" he jokes.
"Well that's the main reason I agreed to this interview, I will be dropping my final album a month after Cameron's, but in addition to that Cameron and I collaborated on an entire album together and that will be dropping two weeks after his." I say smiling huge.
"Whoa wait a minute the two biggest teens in the music industry have collaborated on a whole album!" He says.
At that moment Cameron walks in the door, "Oh damn I am so sorry Grey I forgot about Rolling Stone being here!"
"It's cool come join us!" I tell him.
"Yeah you heard me right Cameron and I have made an album together. We actually recorded it in this house! In between both of us recording our own albums we did this one. Yes it is really risky putting out three albums on the same label so soon, but Cameron has actually progressed into pop punk and mine is still pop. So we aren't worried about the numbers on the charts we both have faith in our music."
"So why are you dropping them one right after another?" Mike asks.
"Because we are announcing a huge nationwide United States Tour!" Cameron gushes.
"He's right my brother Zeke will be joining us along with other special guests, this tour will lead up to my final album. Cameron will perform solo and so will I, then we will both perform our collaborative album in its entirety." I tell him.
"Wait final album, as in you are done?"
"Yes, this will be my final album. I have been blessed with the career I have had, I have done so much in so little time. I am ready for a normal life, well, as normal as I can get. I want to focus more on the business aspect of the industry, I actually finished high school this past summer, and I want to go to college. I will be turning 17 while we are on tour, which is yet another birthday on tour. I want to start having a personal life. My love for music will never fade away I'm not saying I will never put out new music I have tons of it, but yeah this is the last album."
"Wow. I was not expecting this at all when you agreed to this interview. So what can you tell us about this tour?"
"It's going to be insane!" Cameron says laughing.
"He is right, this tour will be the biggest one I have ever done, Zeke, Cam, myself and some other artists I cannot reveal yet will be on it and you can expect a bunch of special guests. I have made a lot of friends in the music business and I called in a lot of favors for my final tour." I say smiling.
"I will get backlash if I don't ask, so what is the real reason you are "done" with making music?"
I shift uncomfortably and I see he jots this down, "As I said I have been in this business for so long it's all I have ever known. Do you understand what it's like for a teenager on tour? I will be honest and I think Cameron will agree with me it just sucks. You have no friends, there are barely any days off and when you do have a day off you have to do media junkets or record or be in a meeting. The time off tour is planning the next big move. I can't even have a relationship because I am just not available. Before everything happened, the kidnapping and all, I was in a serious relationship. It changed things, I threw myself back into my work. The person I was with told me "hey I can't wait for you it's not fair on me." This person was right it sucked and I want friends, I mean I have them yes, like Cam but I want more. That and I have a company to grow like I stated before. I would never trade anything for the experience and the amazing life I have been given. I owe everything to my fans."
"You say you threw yourself into your work after the attack, does this wanting to stop recording come back to this?"
"A lot of it does yes, but these are thoughts I had in my head when everything hit the fan with my parents. I was fighting day in and day out with Victoria, my mother, I didn't like that I had no control over my life, and after the attack it took me a long time. I have never had control over my life, my label didn't like the fact that I needed time to myself so they dropped me because I refused to meet their deadline, and I realized I really like waking up in the morning and having the freedom to lay around, or take my time writing songs. The music business is a blessing, and a curse. I don't want to seem like I am taking all of it for granted because I am not, but I always took life for granted and that's what I want is to be able to actually live my life. Someone I really cared about slipped away and I had no control over my life to stop it."
Mike nods his head, "This person must have been really special. So what are you going to do? I mean running the company sounds good, but your almost 17 that will get boring." He laughs.
"This person was really special, probably my first love, and well I have some other projects in the works, nothing I can actually say at this point. There is no way I am just going to up and abandon my fans ever."
Mike puts down his pad and pen and turns off his recorder, "Okay let's get you into hair and makeup and get this photo shoot going. Cameron would you mind being in a couple of shots? I want a page of you and Grey for when we get to the part about you and him collaborating on an album."
Cameron looks over to me, "Yeah if you want to man." I tell him smiling.
We head over and there is a makeup lady who already had outfits laid out for us. I change into even more skinny jeans and just a blue tank top. As I am changing I start thinking about the past few months. Actually the day Haiden came out to me, and I came out to him.
Flash back
"What if I want you to flirt with me?" I ask seductively.....
Haiden looks my way even though I know he can't see me I have the biggest smile on my face. "What?" he says in between short breaths.
"I am gay as well, and it's so freaking amazing that you are too! You are amazing Haiden." I tell him laying a hand on his leg.
"You are gay? No way?"
"Yes! I am out to my family and like my manager, but that's it. Well now you too. I cannot actually believe you are gay, I have to say I have had a crush on you...."
He wraps his arms around me and kisses my cheek, "Grey you are adorable and so sweet and probably perfect for me, but I have a boyfriend. I have had one for a few years now."
"Oh..." I say.
"Look I don't want there to be any awkwardness with me and I am so sorry if I in any way led you on, I just didn't know I could trust you. I am flattered that you like me more than as a friend, any guy would be lucky to have you!" He tells me.
"No, it's cool I should have asked. So you have had a boyfriend for a few years now?"
He smiles, "Yeah, he is pretty awesome and I love him."
The Present
Haiden and I are really good friends, I have actually learned a lot from him, plus I have met Kevin, his boyfriend, a lot since Haiden lives here as well and they are perfect for each other.
I come out of the bathroom with the new cloths on and walk over to the makeup chair that has been set up in the kitchen. I look over and Cameron is chatting away and flirting with the makeup artist, I just roll my eyes. He is in ripped jeans and a tight fitting black shirt with holes in it as well. "Did they just go into your closet and get your clothes?" I pick with him.
"I was going to ask the same about you Holden!" Cameron fires back.
"I was going to ask them!" I say laughing.
We walk back to the photographer, and he is a short stubby man, "You have a recording booth yes?"
"Yeah it's upstairs." I tell him.
"Good I want shots of you and Cameron in the booth acting like you are singing." He orders.
I look at Cameron who gives me a weird look, and I look at Mike, "How about this do you want an exclusive first listen to a song?"
"What do you have in mind?" He asks stepping up.
"Well if Cam is down why don't you record us and he can get his shots while we sing, and we'll post it on YouTube I think we both win that way." I say smiling.
Mike thinks this over and Cam chimes in, "dude you know you want to do it you have the two biggest teen stars offering a free exclusive song."
"You're right, I can't pass this up." Mike says smiling.
"Let's go then!"
Cameron leads them upstairs to the recording studio, while I go to my room and grab my guitar. I get to the state of the art recording studio we built and instead of going into the booths we set up two mikes, "Good Old Friend?" I ask.
Cam thinks it over, "Yeah we'll just do an acoustic?"
"Yeah why not?"
I hit the chord, and get into a rhythm, and smile because I know this is going to be good.
Cam leans into the mic, "Good old friend." He sings out.
"How long it's been, since I've seen your face."
"Good old friend, how I miss you." Cam sings.
We get to the chorus and both hit the notes exactly how we wanted. I get goose bumps and I know this is going to be so great thinking about the full band version of this song. I look over at the photographer and he is snapping away. Cameron is in full singing mode now, and I am just loving the music.
We finish the song, and Mike lets out a huge clap. "If that is just a preview of what that album is, it's going to be huge, we might want to do another article on the two of you!"
"Hey sorry, but I have to run. I'm interviewing managers." Cam says. "Thanks for letting me drop in on your interview Grey I'll see you tonight!"
I put my guitar on a stand and approach Mike, "So now what?"
"Well we still need a cover shot, and I see you have a pool out there, Do you think we could get you to put your feet in the pool sitting on the edge with the guitar in your hand?"
"Yeah no problem." I tell them.
"Well, we need you to be shirtless." The photographer adds in.
I stop walking, "Yeah no problem." I say smiling.
Apparently this shocks Mike, "Okay good let's get going." I say and toss my tank top onto the chair.
