Chapter 1: Truth is Cold
I ran through the crowded tunnel, pressed myself against the wall and let the clueless security guards run on after me. I breathed a breath of relief as I sped in another direction.
Bradley: (You're coming up on an access hall, Espinosa.)
"Thanks." I said, running past an open door. I stopped and walked into the room and stared. There was a tree on the wall. The tree started at the top of the wall and branched and farther into the room, I found a very interesting bunch of items.
Bradley: (Come on! You've gotta move!)
"Sorry. I'm twenty, naturally curious." I smiled to myself, picking up an odd looking ring and running out of the room. I got the hall and stopped, looking both ways. I ducked as a bullet whizzed by my head.
Bradley: (TOLD YOU!)
"You worry too much." I said, waiting until I heard footsteps get closer. I swung my foot low and connected, causing the guard to fall. I gathered myself up and ran across the cement floor, trying to find an exit. I found myself about to leave when this guy stepped out of nowhere.
"Hey." he said.
"Hey." I said, swinging at him. He ducked and slammed me against the wall, " Good thing I like it rough." I smirked. He stopped an looked at me oddly, but I took the time to kick him in the stomach and punch him to the ground. I ran to the door and opened it, only to see a group of people aiming guns at me, " Okay, he so attacked me first." I lied.
I know what you're saying...but I'm the good guy. I am a spy for the CIA. I was on a mission to recover what was taken from us. I work for SD-B, a new branch of an old spy unit. I am Payton Espinosa Rayne. A twenty year-old african american spy for the CIA. I had only been in the CIA for a short time, but now I was getting better. I was sitting now, waiting for whoever had caught me to interrogate me. They seemed nice enough, but they were going to question later. In a bright white room, I saw a door open and an African American man walked through and sit down opposite me.
The man smiled, " Hi. My name is Marcus Dixon...do you know where you are?" he asked.
"The softer side of hell?" I asked.
"Okay, I see you're going to be difficult." Dixon smiled.
"Are you gonna call my dad? I mean, if you're gonna bore me to death, can you let him know." I spat.
"We both know you're not a normal teenager and you weren't just breaking and entering." Dixon said, " You are in deep trouble."
"Sounds...deep." I said, looking around, " What is this place?"
"You're in the heart of the CIA." Dixon said seriously.
I looked at him oddly.
"But, of course, that wouldn't make sense to you, would it? I mean, you're the CIA, right?" Dixon smiled.
"How..."
"I have something to tell you." he said grimly. He explained that he was in the CIA and that I had been recruited by SD-B, a covert Organization of Crime. He said that I had been tricked and that Sark had made up SD-B to get me on his side...
"How did you know..."
"That's how they got a friend of mine." Dixon said, forcing a smile, " Sydney Bristow."
"Get out. She's...oh gosh, really?" I asked.
"Yes, as a matter of fact, that was her son whose ass you kicked." Dixon smirked.
"Boy is my face red...WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I CARE! There are other things going through my mind...They know, don't they, SD-B, by now. My mom is in danger." I said frantically.
"No, we've gotten to her, she is alright. We're watching her." Dixon said, putting a hand on my shoulder, " We need you."
"Me?" I asked.
"Yes. We've been watching you. Jack Bristow, the young man that you punched, is a handler. He will be your handler. Your partner is Isabelle Bristow." he explained.
"I didn't say I accepted." I frowned.
He stared at me.
"Okay, yeah, but how am I supposed to get out of this? They will kill me if I just leave." I said.
"Yes." Dixon said, " You will stay. Get information for us, and allow us to finally shut them down."
I nodded.
"How do I explain getting out of here." I asked.
"Fight." Dixon said, " You escaped."
I stood in a hallway, my thoughts swimming with what he just said. How can I possibly get one over on these people? I'm standing here, feeling them all watch me as if I'm about to explode. I slid my back against a wall and leaned my head all the way back.
"Are you okay?" A woman of about 25 said.
"Peachy." I said, looking at her, " Who in the hell are you?"
"Isabelle. Isabelle Bristow." she said, extending her hand, " I'm your new partner."
"So I've heard." I frowned.
"I just wanted to say hi. I'm supposed to be at the debriefing." she smiled.
"You can be on your way. I'll deal." I said quickly.
"Oh, well, umm, okay." she said dejectedly.
"I...umm, thanks. How's your brother? I kinda punched him." I said softly.
"I know. He'll recover. See ya around." she smirked, walking away.
"My sister's off limits." a voice said behind me. I turned to see Jack Bristow, " Especially to you."
"You're barking up the wrong tree. Plus she's not my type." I said, throwing up my hands.
"That explains what you said earlier." he said, pointing to his black eye.
"Yeah. I'm sorry you're not quick enough. I mean, I expected more." I smirked, " So you're my handler, right?"
"So, you're my handlee?" Jack smirked.
"You think you can handle me?" I asked.
"I guess we'll just have to see." Jack smiled.
I smirked and walked away. As I walked, I turned to see Jack still watching my back.
