Evan arrived home, dismissing the feelings that he had felt with Max. He quietly made his way to up to his bedroom. He shut the door and went into his private bathroom. He turned the water on and waited until the steam rose from behind the shower curtain, the water was almost scalding. Evan felt dirty, he kept thinking about what had happened earlier between him and Max.

"Whatever" he said quietly to himself. He turned off the water and walked into his bedroom, he threw on some boxers and got into his bed. He closed his eyes and began to think of Christy. He saw her, and felt her lips on his, he began to touch himself lightly. A light moan escaped his lips and he worked himself over thinking of Christy, as he began to get more into it, Christy's body began to make him shutter in pleasure as he had his orgasm. He reached behind his pillow and found a rag that he usually used and cleaned himself up. He went to bed satisfied that he was thinking about Christy. Maybe it was nothing. Evan thought to himself as he drifted off to sleep.

He awoke the next morning to the sounds and smells of Saturday mornings at his house. He came down the stairs into the living room where his father was reading a newspaper and his younger brother Bradley watching television. As usual he ruffled his brother's hair gently. He went into the kitchen, where his mother was cooking breakfast. He pulled a glass from the cupboard and poured himself a glass of orange juice. He walked as the living room and sat next to his brother his father cleared his throat and looked over his newspaper.

"So you came in late last night." His father said nonchalantly.

Damn. Evan thought to himself. He was hoping that his father hadn't heard him come in last night.

"Sorry dad. I didn't mean to come home so late I didn't realize that it was late. I was just hanging out with Christy last night on the beach. It won't happen again." Evan said with remorse.

"Good. I don't need you setting a bad example for you brother." Mr. Lonzo said returning to his newspaper. Evan's mother called from the kitchen alerting the men in her life that breakfast was ready.

They sat around a well prepared feast of bacon, eggs, toast, and pancakes.

"Evan. Son. Will you lead us in prayer before we eat the food that your mother had graciously prepared for us?" Mr. Lonzo asked. Evan knew that it wasn't so much a simple request than an order.

"Yes sir." Evan responded. Everyone bowed their head and he began to pray.

The day moved on like it normally did for Evan, he worked on homework and then had a date night with Christy, followed by a full nights rest and then church the next morning. He awoke Sunday morning and began to himself ready for service. He pulled on a light dark blue button down, black tie, and black slacks and topped off with his black dress shoes. He came downstairs and into the living room, where his father was reading the Sunday paper.

"Dad. I'm going to pick up Christy. I'll see you at church." Evan said hurrying out to his car. About 20 minutes later he was honking his horn outside of Christy house. The exterior was periwinkle blue and off white. The lawn was well kempt with the ever popular lawn gnomes guarding the property. The door opened and Christy walked out in black heels and a floral print pink dress. Her make-up was distinguishable yet subtle and her hair pulled back into a tight ponytail. Evan was stunned. She opened the car door and got into the passenger seat and kissed Evan.

"Morning baby." She said.

"Morning." He replied. He put the car in gear and drove off towards the church. The car ride was unusually quiet for the two of them.

"Okay, you are never this quiet. What's wrong?" She asked with concern.

"Yea, just a little tired is all." He said and continued drive, but Christy was no fool, she was just as smart and popular as Evan was. She didn't respond but kept quiet knowing that within his own time, usually within a day or two, he would tell her what she needed to know. The pulled up to the church and parked in the lush green grass lot. They walked up to the church hand in hand, being greeted by most of the older patrons of the church. The walked in and saw Evan's parents in the second row speaking with the pastor.

"Morning Pastor Roman." Christy said extending an open hug to the Pastor, who took it without complaint.

"Good Morning Christy. How are you this fine God-given day?" He asked.

"Blessed, as always. I can't wait to hear what the sermon is today." She said.

"Well, it isn't what I intended but God spoke to me last night and told me that this needed to be said."

"Well Amen. We do the will of the Lord even though we don't want to." She said with a smile.

"Amen to that" He said as he made his way up to the pulpit.

The family took their seats but before Christy sat she went up to the pastor and whispered in the ear and then returned to Evan and held his hands.

"Good Morning brothers and sisters in Christ, let's all take our seats and service will begin soon." The Pastor spoke and like sheep to a shepherd the people flocked to their seats. "Now before I begin I have a special prayer request from Sister Christy Berkley. If everyone would please bow their heads." After everyone had done so he continued, "God we want to thank you for bringing us together again this week to be in your presence, to thank you for providing us with all you have done for us. I also, Father God, want to ask you to be with Brother Evan Lonzo, I see his heart my lord, and he needs your guidance. So please be with him through his decisions. In your holy name we pray Amen." He finished and a mixed chorus of amen resounded throughout the church. As the church quickly moved into worship and then tithes and offering Evan found himself deep in thought. His concentration only to be broken by the words of Pastor Roman. "Amen, I have never felt so in tune with the spirit than I have now, can I get an amen?" Another round amen broke out through the congregation. "Now originally I was going to deliver a sermon on falling away from faith and out of fellowship with Christ, but as I was thinking a couple of nights ago God came to me and said 'Charles someone needs to hear some words of assurance.' And as I thought about what that meant my bible fell on the floor and opened up to Psalm 139 verse 14-16 and I said 'Lord you are amazing.' He wants me to speak about being yourself in Christ."

He talked for about a half hour before giving the congregation his final thought, which really stuck out to Evan. "The worst sin you would commit to yourself and to God is rejecting the life he has given to you.

You are perfect because God doesn't make mistakes." The final prayer was given and the congregation was released. As the Lonzo's were gathering their belongings Pastor Roman approached Evan. "Can I speak to you?" He asked quietly so he wasn't overheard.

"Sure." Evan said. "Christy you can go with my family. I'll see you at my house." She smiled and walked away making pleasant conversation with the very well behaved Bradley. As the church cleared Pastor Roman lead Evan back to his study, it was a little bigger than a regular office, outfitted with several large oak bookcases and a few couches. Pastor Roman extended his hand to a seat in which Evan took.

"Now. I don't expect you to tell me what's going on, because something tells me that you don't even know what's going on." Pastor Roman said leaning back in his chair.

"No I don't. I mean I thought I had everything I wanted but, one night something happened and I'm not too sure about it, or even what it means." Evan said burying his head in his hands. He could feel the emotion of how lost he was begin to surmount in his body, so close to the surface, like a volcano building up pressure.

"Well my son. If you pray about it you will find what you need to know. God will always have time to listen, you know that. I have seen you grow into a man of God and I am proud you and Christy have stuck with it, when people your age are out of fellowship with Christ and off gallivanting around like delinquents." Roman said. Evan nodded and a single tear fell. Roman put a hand on his shoulder and prayed for him right there and then.

Evan exited the study and the church and got into his car. Once inside, he began to drive home feeling the tumultuous feelings within his body fight for dominance.

Over the next few weeks things were consistently growing stale with Christ, and as promised Max had joined them for lunch consistently, although about a week after their beach outing Evan kept his distance from Max until Max confronted him after two weeks of constant avoidance since the incident.

One day after a lot of thinking Evan decided that things were best left alone, he convinced himself that the feelings he had towards Max where nothing but runaway hormones and that in time they would cease to exist. After a hard day of school, he was looking forward to the weekend. He was walking to his car to find Max standing next to it.

"Dude. What is your problem?" Max asked trying his hardest to stay calm.

"What are you talking about?" Evan said trying desperately to avoid the conversation.

"Evan, do not play stupid with me. You know what I'm talking about. Ever since you dropped me home from the beach you've been avoiding me. Why?" Max demanded. Evan turned his attention towards Max.

"Max, I'm sorry. I've just been busy and under a lot of stress, my dad wants me to apply to all the top law schools and pre law programs and I have to keep my grades up for them to even look at my application." Evan lied. "I'm sorry, it had nothing to do with you." He lied again, but who was he lying to? Himself? Or Max? Or both?

"I would have appreciated you just saying so." Max stated accepting the apology.

"I guess. Are we cool?" Evan asked with a weak smile.

"Of course." Max said beaming.

"Need a ride?" Evan said getting into his Honda.

"Sure." Max said getting in after him. Evan peeled out of the student parking lot totally forgetting his obligation. A very angry Christy watched him as he left the parking lot towards Max's home.
