Chapter 17

Cameron stood there in a state of total shock, unable to speak. "Miss Carothers? Are you still there?"

"I'm sorry. Could you please repeat what you just said?" She asked the doctor, hoping that she didn't hear her correctly.

"I said that Mitch is claiming that you're his cousin and he's engaged to Aaron Suarez."

"Doctor Adamson, when I explained the situation between Mitch and Aaron earlier, I left a few things out."

"Such as?" The doctor prompted.

"Can this be held in confidence, as in doctor-patient confidentiality?"

"Yes, absolutely." She replied immediately.

"Okay, here's the full story. Mitch and I are engaged. Aaron is gay and in the closet because of his being in the military. In order to protect him, I'm pretending to be his girlfriend and Mitch's my cousin who is dating this guy named Iukekini, who in reality is Aaron's boyfriend."

"Hmmm. I understand, but that raises the question of why he said that Aaron was his fiancé instead of this Iukekini."

"That I couldn't answer. Can I see him?"

"Yes, later this afternoon or this evening we'll be transferring him to a regular room. His condition has improved to the point where he no longer needs to be in intensive care. He'll need to stay in the hospital for at least another week, and he'll be on strict bed rest, but he can have regular visitors. Would you like to explain the situation with Mister Suarez, or would you like me to?"

"I'll call him. Any idea why he's saying this?"

"I'm not a psychiatrist or a psychologist, but I suspect it might be some form of either dissociative or selective amnesia. This isn't uncommon. I'll have one of the mental health counselors talk with him when he's a little bit stronger. In the mean time, I think we should play along. We don't want to upset him, which could hinder his recovery."

Through her tears Cameron responded. "Whatever you think is best. Thank you for calling, Doctor Adamson. Please let me know when I can see him."

"I will. I know this will be hard on you, but I think it's the best course of action until his memory returns. Take care, and don't be discouraged. Things will be fine."

"I hope you're right. Thanks again Doctor. Bye." She hung up and called Aaron.

"Hello?"

"Aaron, it's me. Mitch is awake."

"That's awesome, Cameron. When can we see him?"

"I don't know, but we need to talk. In person."

"Okay, how about if I come over around seven?"

"Okay. I'll see you then."

A little before seven Aaron knocked on the door. Cameron led him to the couch, went and got them a couple glasses of iced tea, then sat down next to him. "I need to know exactly what's going on between you and Mitch."

"What do you mean, what's going on between us?"

"Aaron, he's claiming you're his fiancé and I'm his cousin."

"What? You're kidding."

"No, I'm not. Again, I ask you, and I want the truth. What's going on between you and Mitch?" Her voice was accusatory with a twinge of anger in it.

"You think we're fucking behind your back?"

"You tell me." She said with a chill in her voice that would freeze the sun.

Aaron started to get pissed. "That's bullshit, Cameron!" He spat. "You know both of us better than that. First of all, he loves you more than I've ever seen anyone love anyone before. Secondly, you know that I don't go after straight guys, let alone one who's in a relationship with someone I care about." He quickly stood and headed towards the door. Once he reached it, he turned. "I know you're upset over his accident, but never in a million years would I believe you'd accuse me of sleeping with your fiancé." He yanked the door open, stormed through it and slammed it closed behind him."

"AARON! WAIT!" She yelled as she ran to the door and threw it open, calling once again for him to wait, but she was too late.

Three days later he went to visit Mitch to try and get some answers. He planned his visit around Cameron's work schedule to insure that they wouldn't run into each other. He was deeply hurt by her accusation that he had slept with Mitch and really didn't want to see her. One of his strongest principles was to not get involved with someone who was already in a relationship. He never went against that principle no matter how hot the guy was. When he arrived at Mitch's room Mitch was asleep, so he sat down and waited. Before too long he was snoring softly. A couple of hours later he was awakened by his name being called softly. He moved to the bedside and looked down at Mitch. "Hey. You're awake. How are you feeling?"

"Like I was run over by a freight train. Come here." He beckoned. Aaron moved his head closer to Mitch's, thinking that he wanted to whisper something to him. When he got close enough, Mitch put his hand around his neck, lifted his head and kissed him. Aaron pulled away quickly. Mitch frowned. "What's wrong baby?"

Aaron wiped his mouth then took a deep breath. "Mitch, what just happened?"

"I kissed my fiancé."

"I'm not your fiancé. Cameron is. Don't you remember?"

"Remember what?"

"Cameron is your fiancé. She was pretending to me my fiancé and your cousin. You were pretending to be dating my boyfriend. You all planned and agreed to this so that Iukekini and I could be together and I would be protected from being outted by my ex-best friend who is stationed at Barber's Point."

"You're kidding, right?"

"No, I'm not. You love Cameron and I love Iukekini. I knew this charade was a bad idea from the beginning. Now look what's happened. What I want to know is why you got so drunk in the first place."

"I don't know. I don't remember a whole lot. All I know is that I love you."

"You love Cameron. You two are planning on getting married. Look, I gotta go. Cameron will be here soon and the last thing I need is for her to see me here. I'll come back when I can." He left and ducked down the nearest stairwell. He didn't want to take the chance of running into her as she got off the elevator. His one concern was that he'd run into her in the hospital lobby and she'd go off on him for being there, but he didn't have a choice. He needed answers. Unfortunately all he had was more questions.

A half-hour later Cameron arrived. "Hi, Mitch. How are you feeling?"

"Confused. Aaron was here earlier" he paused when he noted the expression on her face.

"What's going on between him and you? Have you been sleeping with him?"

"I honestly don't remember ever sleeping with him. That's what's got me so confused. He claims that you and I are engaged to be married and that he's seeing someone named Iukekini. He also said something about some kind of charade to protect him where I'm supposed to be pretending to be your cousin and seeing this Iukekini, and that you and Aaron are together."

"Everything he said to you was true."

"But how? I love him."

Tears started flowing down her cheeks. She ran out of the room and collapsed in a hallway chair, heart breaking. A doctor happened to be walking by and stopped by her chair. "Are you all right? Do you need help?"

"No, I'm not alright. How can I be alright when my fiancé just told me he was in love with another man?"

"Ah, you must be Miss Carothers. I'm Doctor Mahuani. I'm a psychiatrist. I believe Mitch is suffering from temporary dissociative amnesia, a condition where the roles of people in his life get all mixed up."

"What can you do about that?"

"The first thing I need to do is find out what happened the day of his accident, why he got so intoxicated."

"And then?" she queried, calmer now.

"Once I figure out what caused things to get muddled in his mind, we can figure out the best way to help him get things straightened out."

"What can I do?"

"I'm not exactly sure at the moment. One thing I can tell you is that he's scared and confused. For the time being, just play along with his delusions and just be his friend. Try not to put any pressure on him or argue with him. That will place him under additional stress that he doesn't need right now."

"Maybe I should just stay way."

"No! That will do more harm than good. He needs familiar faces around him right now. If everyone stops visiting him, he'll start to feel like he's been abandoned. That's the worst thing in the world for him right now."

"But what about the guy he claims to be in love with."

"Mitch needs to see him as well, and he also needs to play along."

"Are you suggesting that they make out and sleep together?"

"Not at all, but some handholding and hugging, maybe some light kissing will help Mitch realize that something is wrong with what he's doing. Once he realizes that, things will start getting unscrambled. It won't take long after that for him to return to normal."

"How long do you think that will take?"

"I can't say with any certainty, but I don't think it will take that long. Do you know how to get a hold of the guy he thinks he's engaged to?"

"I do, but I really don't want to see or talk with him."

"Why? Do you think he had something to do with Mitch's accident and current condition?"

"I honestly don't know. He claims that nothing was going on between them, but there must have been something that caused Mitch to get screwed up like this."

"Any idea what that might be?"

Cameron went on to explain what Aaron had told her.

"Hm. I see. Did Mitch have any kind of feelings for this Aaron person?"

"They were close. He might have felt some kind of platonic love towards him. I know he once said that Aaron had some kind of vulnerability that made people want to care about him and that he never felt that way towards any of our other friends."

"Is it possible that he could be bisexual?"

"I don't know. I don't think so. He's never made mention of it, nor has he ever talked about any other guy except for things that happened at work."

"Could Aaron have led him on?"

"I seriously doubt it. One of Aaron's strongest principles of life is that he won't get involved with anyone who is already in a relationship. He also won't go after straight guys. He's in the military and is afraid of being kicked out for being gay."

"Hm. I see. It's entirely possible that Mitch's feelings towards Aaron go deeper than anyone realizes. Either way, the best course of action is still to go along with it until he realizes the truth. I know it will be painful for you, but we must consider Mitch's health above all other concerns."

"I understand, Doctor. I don't like it, but I understand. I'll talk with Aaron and explain the situation to him."

"I'm sorry for what you are having to go through, Miss Carothers, and if you ever need to talk, here's my number. Call me anytime." The doctor handed her his business card, said goodbye and left.

Okay, so how do I get a hold of Aaron and get him to listen, given the way I treated him earlier. If I call him, I know he won't answer and he won't return my call. I doubt Iukekini will either. Wait a minute. I can find out when he'll be at Candle Crafts next and see him there. Hopefully he'll talk to me. I was such a bitch to him. With a plan in mind, she drove to Candle Crafts and found out when he'd be there next and made plans to meet him there.

"She was such a bitch, Iukekini. She practically accused me of sleeping with him." Aaron said as he snuggled up to Iukekini. After the confrontation with Cameron at the hospital, he called Iukekini and made arrangements to meet him at his apartment on his next day off. Unlike his job in the military, the Honolulu Fire Department required their Firefighters to work a four-day-on three-day-off schedule and required them to stay at the fire station the whole time.

"She was upset, baby." When he saw Aaron start to bristle he added quickly "that doesn't excuse her actions or her accusations. Have you talked with her since then?"

"No, and I don't want to. It still hurts. I did not sleep with him." He tried to convince Iukekini of his faithfulness.

"You don't have to try to convince me. I believe you."

"She doesn't believe me."

"That's her problem, not yours."

"I knew this charade wasn't a good idea. What are we going to do now?"

"I have an idea. Why don't I talk with my station chief about some joint training exercises? Given that a jet could, heaven forbid, crash anywhere, we should know how to deal with crash fires as well. Since you trained all those Navy Firefighters, more than likely you would be the one to train us. That would give us a plausible way to meet and become friends. No one would question us hanging out then."

"I never thought of that. I could talk with my station chief about the same thing."

"Don't you think both of us going to our chiefs about the same thing at the same time be suspicious?"

"You're right. Let me talk with my boss. I think it would be more feasible coming from me."

"You're right, and speaking of coming..." Iukekini pulled him in for a deep kiss then stood, grabbed his hand and led him into the bedroom. Once in the bedroom he wasted no time getting Aaron's clothes off. "Wow. That thing is a monster. Can't wait to get it hard and down my throat!" He reached down and stroked Aaron to hardness. "Well, on second thought, my throat may not be able to handle it, but my ass sure can." He bent down and started sucking his dick, trying to take as much as he could, but discovered he couldn't take all eleven inches of thick cock despite his best efforts. He sucked on as much as he could as he ripped off his own clothes. Once naked he laid on the bed on his back with his legs in the air. He reached into the nightstand and handed Aaron a condom and a bottle of lube. "I think you can guess where I want you to put that awesome piece of meat." He wiggled his eyebrows lasciviously.

"Ah, back in my pants?" Aaron teased.

"Fuck you, Aaron." He replied, smiling.

"No, fuck you."

"Exactly. I want your cock shoved so far up my ass that it will stick out of my mouth."

"Think you can handle it?" Aaron smirked.

"Try me." Iukekini growled.

"Okay, you asked for it." He prepared him, donned the condom and entered him slowly.

"Candy ass!"

"You did not just call me a candy ass!"

"Oh yes I did."

"I'll show you who's a candy ass!" Aaron slammed into him, causing him to moan. He set a fast and furious pace until twenty minutes later he blasted a huge load into the condom. He collapsed into Iukekini's arms, totally exhausted and eventually softened and pulled out. Rolling on his back he lifted his legs into the air. "My turn."

Iukekini laid there for a couple of minutes before turning on his side to face Aaron. "Uh, baby, I'm a bottom. I really don't like to top. I'm sorry. If I'd known you were versatile, I would have said something before this. Please don't be mad at me."

"I'm not. I just believe in reciprocity. It's not fair that I get off but you don't."

"I do, however, love to get my cock sucked."

"Your wish is my command."

Before he realized it, his dick was buried deep in Aaron's throat. Soon he was blasting his load down Aaron's throat. After making sure he sucked every last drop out of Iukekini's dick and thoroughly cleaning him up, he rolled onto his back and licked his lips. "Yum, yum. Nothing like the taste of cum." Iukekini burst out laughing as he pulled Aaron into his arms, covering them with a blanket. Soon they were sound asleep.
