She didn't look like a movie star or anyone from a fashion magazine. Instead, she had a natural, rugged female beauty about her. Short chestnut hair and blue eyes, and a beauty mark on her right upper cheek. There was that brave and steady as a rock look about her. I watched her walk across the floor, posture perfect, never missing a single step. I loved her from the very first moment I saw her.

Her name was April Lynn Chapman, the new chief of police for Mill River. We never had a female chief before, this was our first. Sargent Hayden stepped over with his hand out.

"Welcome. I heard you were a Marine corp pilot before you became a cop."

Sargent Paul Hayden, 57 years old, 6 foot tall. He always wore his salt and pepper hair in a crew cut, just like he did in the Navy. He knew I was a lesbian, but that never stopped him from helping me. I respected him very much, he was a good friend and a good police officer.

April smiled and shook his hand. "I was. Were you in the corp?"

Hayden shook his head. "No ma'am, Navy."

April turned to officer Kayla. "And you are?"

Kayla quickly put her hand out. "Officer Kayla Bates, ma'am."

Officer Kayla Bates, 28. She had been with the department for three years now. She was the daughter of Howard Bates, he owned the hotel and the local hardware store. Kayla had hazel eyes, golden hair and a flawless complexion. I think the glasses she wore made her more attractive. She was going to be married in September.

April turned and walked over to my desk. "We don't have a uniform to fit you?"

I was frightened by her and how tall she stood over me. I replied. "No, ma'am. I mean I'm not a police officer. I do all the clerical work in the office. Sometimes I answer the phone if everyone is out."

She looked my desk over. "What a neat and well organized desk you have. What's your name?"

I sat up straight. "April Fisher."

She had the most beautiful laugh. "Two Aprils! What are the odds? I can see some confusion in that."

She turned back to Paul and Kayla. "My middle name is Lynn. That's what you'll call me instead of ma'am."

They all smiled, nodded and addressed her as Lynn. She turned back to me. "That goes for you to. No more ma'am, just Lynn."

I nodded. "Yes, Lynn."

Sargent Hayden poured himself a cup of coffee. "What helicopters did you fly in the Marines?"

Lynn spun around. "AH-1W. Super Cobra's. Speaking of helicopters, do we have one here?"

Paul laughed. "No. This is a small town police force. We can only afford three officers. You, me and Kayla." He took a swallow of coffee before continuing. "Only two police cars and two cells downstairs."

Her figure was silhouetted by the office window. My eyes rested on her profile, everything else was just a blur. Her ear lobes were pierced, but she wasn't wearing any earrings. She had an athletic body with perfect curves. I began to breathing heaver, I quickly turned away before she caught me looking.

She placed her brief case on her desk and opened it. She pulled out a holster with desert tan Glock 19 and placed it on the desk. Next, she took out a picture of her next to her helicopter and placed it on the desk. She turned to Paul. "I assume the police chief doesn't have a uniform to wear?"

Paul poured another cup of coffee. "Correct. Plain clothes all the way."

Lynn unfastened her belt and slid the holster with Glock behind her right hip. "So, where is the house the city is providing me?"

I quickly raised my hand. "You'll have to stay with me until they finish your house."

Paul stepped in. "Yeah, some pipes broke last winter. Flooded everything. Should be done in about a month."

Paul and Kayla left to make their rounds through town. Lynn walked over to my desk. "Tell me about the files you keep here."

I sat up straight and pointed to my right. "There are three file cabinets. Each has four drawers. The top three drawers are all alpha numeric, going from left to right. Each drawer has exactly 38 file folders in it."

She leaned against the edge of my desk. "How long have you had OCD?"

I didn't expect that question. "Since I was a little girl."

She smiled. "You had all the crayons correctly in the boxes, didn't you?"

I just nodded. She leaned over, put her hand on my chin and raised my head up. "It's nothing to be ashamed of. I find it very admirable and refreshing."

I smiled back at her. "Most people think I'm odd and funny."

Lynn took my hand. "I could tell you what to say to those people. But, I'm afraid it would get you in trouble."

She stood up and looked around. "So, where do we go for lunch around here?"

I quickly opened my bottom desk drawer. "I bring my lunch. I'll be happy to share it with you."

Lynn turned, staring at me with those blue eyes and that cute little smile she had. "What you got?"

"I have a turkey and cheese sandwich on sourdough with no crust. I have a banana and an apple."

Lynn pulled up a chair next to me. "Let me guess. You have a special knife to cut the sandwich with?"

I cut the sandwich, split the apple and gave her half. "I need to tell you something before you stay with me."

Lynn was chewing on the sandwich. "You're a serial killer?"

I quickly replied. "That's not funny."

Lynn quickly interrupted. "You're only fourteen."

"NO! I'm twenty-three, and stop doing that. What I'm trying to say is, I'm a lesbian. Everyone in town knows it. If you stay with me, they'll also think you're a lesbian."

She smiled at me. "I don't care what people think, unless it has to do with crime."

She continued talking as she ate. "So, how many lesbians are in town?"

I looked down at my desk. "Just me. There was my girlfriend, Vicky. But she moved away with her parents five years ago."

Lynn looked up at me. "Five years ago? Good thing you had OCD to keep you occupied."

I looked back at her. "I don't think about it that much, until you came. I didn't see a wedding ring and I thought maybe?"

Lynn leaned over and kissed me on the lips. "Maybe you were right."

For the next few weeks, we lived together in my two bedroom home at the end of town. Being around her every day gave me a feeling I couldn't explain, except it was like finally not being alone anymore. I wanted to sleep with her so badly, but I would wait for her to make the first move no matter how long it took.

One summer Sunday, we went to the old lumber mill, that sat on the river. We took our basket of food and blankets, and ate our lunch by the river. I saw in her blue eyes, the feelings that were in my heart. I touched her with gentle hands, as if she were a precious gem to be held and admired. My intentions were to bring out the deepest feelings she had inside.

I knew she had a basic desire for dominance, and I gave way to her. That afternoon, she made me understand love. She put so much fire in my sole, I truly believed I was weightless. I never experienced anything like it in my life. We lay there, naked under the blanket, my arm across her chest. I realized without her by my side, I would never be complete.

A week later, the big neighboring city of Humboldt lured her away. Their big money; Their fancy new police cars; Their helicopter and big new house. I felt such an emptiness inside, I thought I would die. I loved her with all my heart, I imagined we were going to be together forever. I ran away, because I couldn't stand to say goodbye to her.

Only a week had gone by and all I wanted to do was sit at home and cry. I heard a loud banging on the front door, I went to open it. Lynn was standing on the porch. "Where the hell were you when I left?"

I just stood there. I didn't know how to answer. "I couldn't see you leave. I just couldn't."

Lynn stepped in close to me. "You know how much I miss that child-like face of yours? It keeps coming back to me like a snapshot. You're coming home with me."

I stared at her for a moment. "But, I have to be at work tomorrow."

Lynn took hold of shoulders. "I'm kidnapping you and taking you home with me. Get your skinny little butt in the car."

I buckled the seat belt and looked at Lynn. "What are we going to do when we get home?"

Lynn gave me an evil smile. "I'm going to keep you handcuffed, naked, and in lust all day long. How do you like that?"

I smiled back at her. "If it were, in an orderly fashion, I could get used to that."

Lynn started the police car and shook her head. "God, how I missed you."

END.
