A Life So Changed 05

Ready boys?" Paul asked us. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. Jared's done it several hundred times I'm sure, but I can't say the same at all. Saying I'm nervous is an understatement.

"Ready!" Jared said. He looked at me and gave a curious look. I knew he was waiting on me to give my okay. I just couldn't say it. But the look on Jared's face convinced me: it'll be all right.

"Ready," I said. Jared reached over the row and took my hand in his. I have to admit that even with how nervous I am I took I notice how nice the plane cabin was. It had six seats, one on each side of the plane in three rows. The chairs were leather and they matched the floor in light beige. The cabin in all was roomy. Paul and Angela were in the cockpit. Jared told me earlier that the plane was something called a turboprop airplane; basically a plane with propellers, one on each wing to be specific. And boy it was so nice inside and out.

"Tower, this is Wisteria8888 on runway three requesting approval for take off, over." Paul said into his microphone.

Jared's parents came home very late last night. When we were having breakfast Paul suggested we go for a nice plane ride. Jared was thrilled for the idea. Me? I was okay with it, but the closer we got to the small airport in almost the outskirts of town I began getting nervous. I tried not to show my slight fear, but Jared has a way of picking things up easily. While we driving he took my hand and kissed it several times which calmed me down for the time being. Paul and Angela never seemed to notice the gestures, though; they were the ones driving us. I loved their Infiniti QX56. But it was something I would never drive, ever.

Once aboard the plane Jared and I sat in the middle row, him on the right and me on the left. And now here we are: waiting for approval to take off. My breathing began to deepen. Jared again sensed my fright and took my hand once again, squeezing it and smiling at me. The next thing I heard was Angela: "Okay boys, here we go!"

We slowly began to drive on the straight away. Only for a second we stopped before moving again. But this time we picked up speed. I was being pulled into my seat as the plane began to lift off the ground. I looked out the window to see the shrinking lines and poles.

"Isn't this great?" Jared asked me excitedly. He was looking at me, but only for a moment then he continued to stare out the window.

"Yeah, babe, this is actually pretty cool." I said. No lie was in my body whatsoever. I was actually enjoying this. The sounds, the feeling, they were all so great. Although, I am still nervous about the "small" chance of crash landing.

"Are you doing okay?" he asked.

"Yup, I'm enjoying this," I replied happily.

Jared smiled from ear to ear and nodded his head. "Good,"

Throughout the flight I was captivated by the sights. Angela walked to the back and made us up some lunch really fast after an hour. I guess they were planning on flying for quite a while.

"These sandwiches are really good, Mrs. Mayer." I said, trying to swallow the bite that I took.

"Kevin you've been dating my son for three months, don't you think it's about time you cal me by my first name?" she laughed lightly.

"Yeah, I guess I could," I laughed in reply.

"Besides, calling me Mrs. Mayer makes me sound so much older than I really am."

"How old are you?"

"How old do you think I am?"

"Not a day over sixty," I began laughing hysterically. Jared also began laughing along with, surprisingly enough, Angela. She just threw a piece of bread at me and continued laughing. "I am so just kidding! You look like Jared's sister."

"That's right, I am Jared's sister. Isn't that right big brother?"

"Uh, yeah right, grandma" Jared giggled. Angela threw a piece of bread at Jared this time.

Angela made a couple more sandwiches then returned to the cockpit to take over for her hungry husband.

"So you're still doing okay I take it?" Jared asked me.

I swallowed the rest of my water and answered, "Yeah, I love flying now. It's great!" Jared smiled at me and pulled me lightly.

"Come here," he said very softly, almost in a whisper.

I stood up and sat on his lap, snuggling up on him. Before I knew it I fell asleep in his lap.

"Tower, this is Wisteria8888 requesting approval for landing, over." I heard Paul say. His voice woke me up all too quickly. I figured I should wake Jared up also. He must have fallen asleep with me.

"Jared," I whispered. "I think we have to get up now."

He groaned and said, "Please mom, five more minutes."

"No, babe, now," I poked his ribs and he jumped. "Good boy," I laughed.

"Fine, I'm up," he laughed, grabbing at his side. He yawned then gave me a quick kiss.

"Boys it's time to wake..." Angela started, but once she saw we were already up she just smiled at us. "Good, we're going to land as soon as they clear as us."

I sat back in my seat and buckled up. I noticed it had gotten very dark outside, almost like a storm was coming. Of course, a storm around this time of year isn't uncommon.

"After we land we're gonna go to dinner," Angela said.

"What time is it?" Jared asked, letting out another yawn.

"It's almost five,"

"Jeez, we've been flying for five hours."

Suddenly, the plane jerked up then back down. Even with my seatbelt tightened I was thrown up about an inch.

"Damn wind," Paul said agitatedly, gripping the throttle tighter. "There's a storm coming in and it doesn't look pretty." Angela was trying to help stabilize the wild-moving plane, but it was becoming a battle for them both. "Roger that tower, over."

I began to get more nervous the more the plane would sway side to side and jerk every few seconds. Jared looked a bit nervous as well, but as usual he kept on his happy face on.

"Babe, don't worry, okay? This is just a bit of bad weather." he said calmly, smiling at me.

The storm began with strong winds then continued with heavy rain as well. By the time we landed rain was splattering hard against the plane. Paul drove the plane to his private hangar where we then got into their vehicle.

"Man, this storm is really picking up strength," Jared said aloud. Right after he said that a huge bolt of lightning struck on the air field. It was the brightest lightning bolt I had ever seen. And the thunder that came with it was deafening. "Jeez, did you see that?"

"How could you not?" Paul responded.

Upon arriving to the restaurant it was apparent that the storm was getting worse. It seemed as though the darker it got outside the worse the storm got.

"How many?" the hostess asked us.

"Four," Paul said.

"Right this way," she said. She led us to a booth next to one of the numerous windows in the restaurant. "My name is Shelley and I'll be serving you tonight. Can I start you all off with a drink?"

"A glass of your house chardonnay," Paul and Angela said in unison.

"Root beer," Jared said.

"Two, please," I also ordered.

Paul began making small talk while our waitress brought our drinks out. She actually came back rather quickly. The restaurant wasn't very busy tonight, which I'm surprised at that. It was one of the more popular places to eat.

"Are you ready to order?" Shelley asked.

"Yes, start with me," I said. "I'll have the Buffalo wings to start, but those aren't the small itty-bitty kind are they?"

"Actually it's quite a large serving," she said.

"Good, then I'll have that as well as the barbequed chicken with a slice of mixed berry pie and ice cream for dessert." I folded my menu back up and handed it to her. Paul and Angela chuckled a little bit. I'm guessing it's because of what I ordered.

Everyone else ordered what they wanted then the mindless small began once again. I don't mind talking to Jared's parents though. I think that they are some of the easiest people to talk to. You could never feel that they're over protective or over controlling. There is a very fine line between being protective and over controlling and some people cross that line and stay across that line. Those are the parents that I can't stand.

The storm outside hadn't simmered down whatsoever. Thunder and lightning continued to be shown and heard. The rain was still crashing down with great force and the wind had even picked up again. But who was I to complain? I was sitting in like a five-star restaurant with my boyfriend and his parents.

Our food came out about twenty minutes later and it looked so good. I couldn't help myself as I started to eat before Shelley even really put my plate down. In fact, by the time everyone else began eating I was already nearly half way done. The Buffalo wings were the first to be devoured. The chicken was next.

After finishing my dinner I thought I should wait for everyone else before starting on dessert. Luckily for me they were almost done. So by the time Shelley came back I immediately asked about my dessert. She smiled at me and said it'd be right out.

When she did bring the pie and ice cream I quickly ate that as well. My stomach was on the verge of a nuclear meltdown after I ate the last bite of pie.

"Babe, I need to go and get some air," I told Jared who was eating his pie.

"Are you all right?" he asked worriedly.

"Yes I'm fine. I just need some air is all." I stood up and walked outside.

I made sure I walked under the awning that was all the way around the building. I noticed that there was an alley on the right side of the restaurant so I decided instead of getting air around the crowd I'd get it alone. But I stopped in the beginning of the alley and stood captivated once again. At the end of the alley were four people doing things that I gave up; smoking, drinking, and drugs.

The smell of the smoke sent a dangerously cold chill down my spine. That smell triggered senses that I forgot I had. The look of that brown paper bag with alcohol in it made my mouth water. Oh man, what am I doing? I quit that stuff a long time ago for the one that I love. There's no way I can even dare go back to that lifestyle. But the thought that all that is just a few yards away made me insane. Maybe if I just walk down there and ask for a small puff^Å

No, I can't. I've got to go back inside before I do something incredibly stupid. My nerves were suddenly going hay wire.

As soon as I walked back inside I felt a wave of relief hit me. The warm atmosphere, people talking and laughing, and the families having there Saturday night dinner calmed me down.

"Feeling better?" Jared asked as I sat down back in my seat.

"You bet I am," I smiled at him.

It looked like he was done eating his pie, but his parents were another story. I was getting anxious to get out of this place so I could leave the temptation behind me. But his parents were barely finishing dinner. As I sat in the chair I kept fidgeting. Paul and Angela sensed my anxiousness and said they'd get dessert to go, which relieved me so badly you have no idea.

We all drove home and once there they even didn't pull into the garage. I'm surprised they haven't had anyone out to fix that door yet. Again I jus ignored it, concentrating on Jared who was leading me up the stairs. He lied on his bed pulling me on top of him and he just held me like that. After a while I got unusually cold so he covered us up and continued to hold me. It was hard for me to not fall asleep because he was gently rubbing my hair as well. He knows that I love my hair rubbed so he always does it for me in order to get me happy, or he just does it to make me happier.

"Mmm, it feels nice to hold you again babe." Jared said softly. "Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, aren't you excited?"

"You bet I am," I smiled to myself. But I suddenly was won over by a wave of guilt. What happened in the alley today is bugging me. I was so close to losing it and going back there to do those horrible things. "Um, Jared, I need to tell you something." I rolled off of him and sat up on the edge of the bed. I felt the bed lean in more where Jared sat up.

"Okay, what about?" He placed a hand on my shoulder and rubbed my back lightly.

"Re^Åremember when I went to get some air? Well, I got a little more than air, kind of. I went outside in the alley next to the restaurant to get away from the crowd and at the end of the alley I could see a few people doing some^Åthings." Jared scooted over next to me with a worried expression. He probably thought that I slipped or something.

"Kevin, you didn't-"

"No, I didn't do anything."

"Well, good," he said, releasing a sigh. "You know, I'm proud of you for quitting those things. I can only imagine how hard it must be, but I really do appreciate you for that courage Kevin." Jared tenderly said. I could sense the love that was in those words. I am so in love with him.

"I find that as long as I have you it's not that hard," I said, looking at him through misty eyes.

Jared simply smiled widely and gave me a gentle kiss. He scooted back over to his spot and rubbed next to him. I took the hint and laid back down. He spooned me and I inched even closer to him. I felt a gentle warmth radiating from his creamy skin.

"I love you, Kevin."

"I love you too, Jared."

The next day was a relax and take it easy day. Not only was it Sunday, but it was also Christmas Eve. Even if we wanted to go anywhere it was kind of difficult to do with the storm outside at full force and all. Angela suggested we just watch movies, eat, and play games. One game that I could not stop playing was Monopoly. We played in teams: Angela and Paul versus me and Jared. Let me tell you something, Jared is a vicious Monopoly player. His parents were tough, but they eventually crashed. We must have played that game like six times while watching various movies.

While we were playing, Angela was continuously baking things like bread, cakes, and cupcakes. She'd leave to check on them every once in a while and that made us pause the game, which I could tell Paul hated. Jared and I just laughed at his position.

"Well, boys, I think six times of kicking your fathers and mine butts is enough. How about I make you a victory dinner?" Angela asked us. She started to put the game away as we stood up and began cleaning everything else up; trash, food, cups, etc.

"Yeah, Angela, that sounds like a plan," I laughed.

"Damn it," Paul said. "I'll beat you boys next time. These games were just warm ups!"

Jared and I just laughed. Angela started making dinner after we helped her clean then Jared and I went upstairs. Jared hadn't been very talkative since we started cleaning.

"Babe is there something wrong?" I asked him. He sat on his loveseat that was in front of one of his over-sized windows. His room was big enough to accommodate a loveseat as well as a desk, chair, a small coffee table, queen size bed, entertainment cabinet, and a nightstand.

"No, it's just^ÅI don't even know." he said sadly.

I sat next to him and placed my head on his shoulder. He returned the gesture by placing his head against mine. I took his hand in mine and together we watched the rain pour down outside.

"I feel better already," he sighed. I grasped his hand tighter and then kissed it.

"Boys, come down here for a minute, please!" Angela shouted from downstairs.

Jared stood up slowly followed by me. Before I could walk out of his room he grabbed me and planted his lips on mine. I opened my mouth to his waiting tongue and we slowly, but passionately, kissed our hearts away.

"Mr. Mayer I brought you and your friend some, oh, my,"

Jared and I swiftly separated from one another.

"Xiao-Me?" I asked incredulously.

"Mr. Scavo," she replied. In her hands was a tray of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. I was just thinking of some hot chocolate too. It was getting kind of cold, to me at least.

"Since when did you start working here?"

"About a week ago. Your father very stubborn man to work for."

"Yeah, tell me about it," I chuckled.

"Well, I leave this in here and I see you later." she said. She placed the tray on a small table almost in the middle of the room.

"Bye, Xiao-Me." I said.

I turned to Jared after she left and looked at him quizzically. He smiled at me and kissed my lips softly.

"You never told me she was working for you."

"I know, I'm sorry, but I thought I did." he laughed.

"You and your mind," I laughed in suit.

Jared took my hand and led me downstairs to his mom in the kitchen. The dinner was beginning to smell incredible and I was getting hungrier by the minute.

"What'd you need mom?" Jared asked. He went to the fridge and pulled out two waters. I may not eat incredibly healthy, but I do love water.

"Well, your Aunt Julianne called and wanted to know if we wanted to come over tomorrow night for a Christmas dinner. Would you like to go?" Angela was saying to us and cooking three things at the same time. She did it with such elegance though.

"Kevin, you want to?" Jared asked me.

I hate this. I hate being put on the spot. A relative? What if she didn't even like me? Or the fact that I'm dating with her nephew?

"Sure," I said uneasily.

"All right then, we'll leave tomorrow around five. Hopefully this storm dies down by then." Angela said. She went back to cooking while Jared ran me upstairs.

This time it was my turn to be quiet. I sat back on the loveseat and again stared out the window at the raging storm. Jared sat next to me and started rubbing my hair. He knew.

"Kevin, my Aunt Julianne is like the coolest aunt ever. Her house is just like ours. It's warm and has a happy atmosphere. You'll love it I'm sure. And my aunt knows I'm gay and she knows we're dating. In fact, she's been anxious to meet the boy who stole her nephew's heart." Jared smiled at me, still rubbing my hair.

"Thanks, Jared, I feel more at ease now." I released a sigh.

"That's what I'm here for babe,"

Fifteen more minutes passed before Angela announced that dinner was ready through the intercom. The smells were incredible. I've been noticing them for the past hour almost.

We walked downstairs and into the dining room where Paul and Angela were waiting for us. And man, I thought the smells were incredible, but they are nothing now that I've seen the food. Angela made us this type of pasta, and fresh bread, salad, and one of my personal favorites, French fries. I knew that the fries were mainly made for me because who else would serve French fries with pasta?

After dinner everyone sat in the living room and watched TV for a little while. My mind was still flooded with thoughts about tomorrow at Jared's aunt's house. I don't really want to go, but I will for Jared. Who knows, maybe it will be fun.

"Since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, why not open one present tonight?" Paul suddenly suggested. Jared's face turned sharply to Paul.

"Dad, I can't do that!" he said loudly.

"Oh, that's right, all the presents are in the gar-" Angela elbowed Paul in the side before he could finish. "Ouch," Paul groaned.

Angela looked at me nervously, then Jared. I just sat there feeling quite awkward. I had no idea what the heck was going on, but I guess it has something to do with my Christmas present.

"Well," Angela yawned. "Boys, why not go on upstairs and think about going to bed?"

"Yeah, sure mom," Jared said.

"Good night," We both said in unison.

Jared sat on his bed and buried his face in his hands. I carefully sat next to him and put an arm around him. He leaned into me and let out a long sigh.

"I'm sorry Kevin," Jared said.

"Don't be sorry. You have nothing to be sorry for Jared." I replied to him.

"But my dad^Å"

"The present? Jared you have no worry. I have no clue what it is, but I must say that now I'm even more curious to see it tomorrow." I giggled. Jared smiled at me and it seemed it mood picked up. "Well, I'm tired so how about I go to the bathroom really fast then when I come back I want to hold you."

"That sounds nice," he said. I stood up while he crawled under the covers and got comfortable. I tried to hurry and go, but if I went to fast it would've been like a sprinkler. Did I really just say that? Hmm, I need to get better with my analogies. When I got back into the room, Jared was already asleep. He looked so innocent just lying there, snuggled up in his comforter. I very carefully crawled in next to him.

"I love you Jared." I whispered. I kissed him on the cheek and turned the light off with the remote then placed an arm around my boyfriend.

Very early in the morning, one-thirty was what his clock said, I was awoken by sudden tossing and slight jerks.

"Kevin^Åno^Å" Jared said in his sleep. The glow from his clock was enough for me to see that Jared was sweating. He had a sorrowful expression on his face.

"Jared," I whispered, placing my hand on his bare chest. Quick note: Jared loves sleeping shirtless even if it's freezing weather. A lightning bolt sharply lit the room then quickly disappeared. Thunder roared across the sky with more wind howling.

"No^Åyou said^Å" he said again.

"Babe," I shook him gently. He still wasn't waking up. But suddenly, he sat up, breathing heavily. His chest was heaving in and out. He tried focusing his eyes on me. I grabbed the lighting remote and turned the lowest light setting on. The light was very dim, but I could make out Jared was crying.

"Kevin!" he said a little too loudly. He grabbed onto me and was almost climbing on me. I held him and tried calming him down.

"It's okay,"

"No, it's not!" he cried. "You^Åand me^Åoh, Kevin, it was horrible!"

I was feeling very sorry for him. He was starting to worry me because of his crying. I rubbed his back, slowly going up and down. Jared eventually calmed down, but he kept saying little bits of his nightmare. I gently laid him down and snuggled on him.

"Jared, whatever you dreamt I won't let it happen."

"You^Åme^Å"

"Shh, it's all right."
