I turned and started to make my way toward the stairs.

"Afraid to face me bitch?"

"Yeah afriad I might pound the living shit out of you."

"You can't threaten me! I'll have your fucking job!"

"Make your complaint Andrew and see how far it gets you. Your eviction notice is in your mailbox. Start looking."

At that point the elevator doors closed and I was thankfully cut off from whatever response Andrew was going to make. I was quickly enough into my apartment and ready for sleep.

Sunday morning broke sunny and cloudless,at least weather wise. There was a bounding on my door. I knew without a doubt it would be Andrew.

"Here's my fucking complaint see it gets to management."

"You know damn well that you have to submit it over the net or through the mail. Do so."

"Listen you little twerp. I have enough juice to see you out on the street. I know people."

"So do I asshole. A good many of them are lawyers. So do it right and get out of my face before I sue you for harrassment."

I slammed the door in his face. He continued to pound on my door. I don't know who did it but somebody must have called the police as I saw a patrol car pull up in front of the building. I didn't even wait for them to ring my chime before I buzzed them in.

"Hey what the fuck do you think you're doing!"

I stayed inside until there was a much more gentle knocking on my door. I could see Andrew being led to the patrol car, mouthing off all of the way.

"Two calls in less than 48 hours. This guy must really be a pain in the ass for you."

"Not for much longer. He's already been served his eviction notice."

"So there'll be an apartment available here soon?"

"Yeah in 30 days or less. Interested?"

"I might know someone who is."

"As long as they know in advance the make up of the building. I don't need to be wasting my time sorting people out who really don't fit in."

"Yeah I hear ya. What's the rent?"

"$300 a week for the apartment that will be vacant."

"Others are more expensive?"

"Just the penthouses. They go for $450,but they are almost twice the size."

"Thanks, I'll let him know."

"Just wait for the sign to go up in my window."

"Got it."

I went back inside and got myself cleaned up for the day and then headed over to the hospital.

"How you doing this morning Dana?"

"Hey Jeff. Feeling a little more human this morning. Your lawyer was by yesterday. Nice guy. He says I shouldn't worry and they should be able to get Andrew to settle out of court."

"He hasn't encountered Andrew yet. Stupid slob came pounding on my door this morning and got himself arrested again."

"Damn, sorry to be causing you so much trouble Jeff."

"Yeah he thinks he can get me fired. Fat chance."

"There isn't is there?"

"No way in hell so don't worry about it. I've got somethingelse for you to think about. There's a couple in the building who want to adopt. I told them they had to poll the building. Looks like you're going to be here through that process. Do you have any objections?"

"I don't but is our building really the place to bring a kid?"

"Same question I put to them and they think it's safe enough and they are going for an older child so they can, hopefully explain it to them."

"Guess it really depends on who the couple is."

"Irving and Bob."

"Two of the best people I know. Hell any kid would be lucky to have them as parents. Give them my ok please."

"Will do. So anything you need?"

"No I'm good, well except maybe for a pair of real pajamas or something. These hospital gowns are drafty."

"You want I should get something out of your apartment or grab something at the store?"

He blushed a bit at the thought of me going into his apartment.

"Dresser in the bedroom, second drawer right side. Any pair or two will do."

'I'll bring them by tomorrow. You just take it easy. Oh I spoke to Julius and he'll hold your spot for you. He wanted me to come back to work and fill in."

"You used to dance at the club?"

"Yeah but it's been a few years. He's going to his list of wannabes to get a fill in."

"I've seen a few of those wannabes. Nice bodies but no sense of rythmn. Hope he can find somebody passable. I'd hate to see the club hurt on my account."

"Maybe he'll cover himself with something like calling it open floor nite or something."

"Sounds like something he could get away with. Now I'm sure you got better things to do and a building to take care of,so get the hell out of here and let me rest."

"Yeah I suppose I should. You just take it easy and let that rib heal. Oh yeah I spoke with the owner and he's going to let you slide on your rent until you're on your feet again and you can pay it off as we go."

"Damn thanks Jeff. That's another weight off my shoulders."

"Ok later. You up for it if any of the others want to come by?"

"Sure what the hell."

I made my way back to the building and kicked back for a couple of hours. Later I made my way up to the roof to make sure that things had been cleaned up. There were a few guys around and that was fine. They all seemed to be with their friends so I wasn't to concerned about anybody "looking".

From out of nowhere a bottle smashed into the roof. Now the buildings on either side were at least a story higher than mine so that could have come from either side.

"Fucking faggots!"

Which was followed by another bottle.

"Clear the roof!"

The second bottle and the direction of the accompanying voice told me which building they had come from.

I was down to my apartment and on the phone to Alex, the building manager next door. I told him what was going on and he said he would take care of it. Alex wasn't gay by any means, but he wasn't one to put up with this kind of bullshit either.

I gave it an hour before I headed back to the roof to clean up the broken glass. I was busy doing this when I was struck in the head with another bottle. I wasn't that badly hurt, but I dropped like a sack of potatoes and just laid there. I wanted to scare the stupid S.O.B. I didn't move at all.

"Oh fuck!"

Still I didn't move. It was several minutes before I heard a siren which seemed to pull up in front of my building. It was only a few minutes more before I felt hands on my body examineing my head.

I then started to make wakeing up sounds so I didn't scare the guys examining me.

"Lie still sir. There is glass imbeded in your head and you may have a concussion. We'll be taking you to the hospital shortly."

I opened my eyes and was pretty much surrounded by all of the tenants. I just gave them a smile to let them know I was alright.

"Just don't anybody let it slip outside of the building I'm ok. I want whatever idiot who threw that bottle to sweat for a bit."

I got a few grins from around the others for that.

We were soon enough on our way to the hospital and the ER doctors and nurses took care of me and did all of the things they needed to do. I was soon waiting for a cab to take me home when Alex pulled up in his car.

"Damn you are the walking wounded. I heard and went and got the moron responisble and turned him over to the police. I'm petitioning the owner to have him evicted. Damn I'm sorry about this Jeff."

"Not your fault Alex. Was the guy shitting his pants I hope?"

"Oh yeah he thought he killed you when you didn't get up right away."

"Good. Maybe it will make him think twice next time."

"He swears he wasn't trying to hit you. I've seen him play darts and I believe him."

"Has he been going through a particularly bad time or anything?"

"Yeah his wife left him ....for another woman and he's on suspension from his job for a month. He's got nothing to do except get drunk and hate the world right now."

"Well that sucks, but still no excuse for tossing bottles at others."

"I agree. Now lets see if the owners do."

I was very glad that I didn't have to jump hurdles with other people to take care of such things.

We had reached our buildings and luckily Alex found a place to park right out front.

"Thanks for the lift Alex. Don't let the guy off the hook if he gets released."

"Oh I'm going to be on his ass like a bad case of diaper rash."

"Hey I never noticed, but are there any kids in your building?"

"Yeah there are a couple, but nicer kids you'd be hard pressed to find. Why?"

"Got a couple thinking about adopting and was hoping there might be somebody around for them to play with."

"Wow! Well wish them good luck with that and I think the kids will be good with another one in the neighborhood."
